Title: Carcassonne: South Seas - expansion
Post by: kettlefish on October 21, 2013, 11:13:59 AM
At the booth from HiG is also the CundCo Shop:

- Freitag - mini expansion for Carcassonne South Sea
Windroses - the HiG and CoT version (not the Spielbox version)
- The Festival
- nice new stickers and much more

Here is the link to the HiG homepage:
Spiel 2013, HiG feiert seinen 30ten (http://www.hans-im-glueck.de/news/newsdetails/news/spiel_2013/)
HiG is celebrating their 30th jubilee (like this year whaleyland and Scott - really interesting).
----------------------------------------
We have so much program and I don't have a CarcC business card for the people there...

Any details on Freitag ("Friday") expansion for South Seas? A photo? Rules? Potential English availability?

Also, are any of the new stickers gameplay-related (or similar, such as the meeple stickers) or are they just promotional material?

Actually, I just got the email from them. Here's the image that was included:

"Game Components:
* 1 Wooden figure: "Friday" (not sure why the figure is named "Friday" still. I can't find any reference for this.)
* 6 Tiles with symbols and different backs

Game Preparation:
* All rules for Carcassonne: South Sea remain unchanged...."

That's all that this preview shows, sadly.

The Friday is someone like Robinson Crusoe.

Ooh...I love those Luggage-meeples! And yay for the Festival reprint (on hopefully thicker tiles)!

Do you already know any of the prices? Maybe they told you....?

No, we will see the prices at Spiel 2013 in Essen.
But at our whiteboard I will put a pocket calculator.

Seriously. If this gets released in standard-sized tile thickness, I will return the ten tiles I stole from my sister's door prize for my wedding two years ago (a perk from a present that was easy to open and seal again).

"Friday" is a character from Robinson Crusoe by Daniel DeFoe. A very fitting addition to South Seas.

I think the tiles of the Friday-expansion could be something like special abilities for the players:

The tiles are randomly distributed. One player always gets one more fish (fisher), another one shell , the third one banana. One player gets the ability to take back a meeple even if he has placed a meeple one is for a better trader.

The left tile could be the one for the first placement of Friday and could be laid near the starting tile.

I'm really enjoying all the build-up for Spiel, shame it's a bit far to come from Australia...

I think it could work in this way:

You can take Friday, if you complete an area another player gets trade goods but you don't get any. You place him in one of your areas and get the benefit of your "role" tile.

 >:D
That the figure Friday has that name because that has something to do with the rules.  ;D
No one of you all should resolve the riddle since Thursday when the Spiel 2013 in Essen starts...

Klaus-Juergen Wrede will get his birthday fan-expansion made from CarcF.
I am really interested to see his face when he will open that small bag...  >:D

For the people who can't go to the Spiel 2013 in Essen.

Should we put all the information and postings about the mini Friday in an own topic?

Please the other global moderators - would you do this?
Such technical things are not my part...

It could also be a small tribute to Friedemann Friese's game, Friday (which you take on the role of) and attempt to help Robinson get off the island.
Title: Rules for Freitag, Carcassonne S
Post by: Carcatronn on October 26, 2013, 12:30:39 PM
Played a few rounds of South Seas with the Friday expansion and must say I wouldn't play the base game without it now! Here are some loosely translated rules for Friday:

(Front page)

Game material
 -1 wooden figure Friday
-6 landscape maps with symbols and other backs

Game preparations
All rules of Carcassonne South seas remain in place.
The cards are shuffled and the extension placed face-down separate from the normal landscape cards. The landscape map of Carcassonne South are divided into 10 stacks of seven cards. The stacks are placed in a row. The other two cards are the last (11th) stack.

Gameplay
On the player's turn, the landscape cards must always be drawn from the front stack, so that the stacks are depleted sequentially. When a batch has been used up, then a week is over. Now comes Friday in appearance and discovers his island. He will give all players special bonuses.
The player who is on the line, after a batch has been used up, reveals an expansion card first before he performs his normal turn. On this card face-up, it is Friday. The expansion cards thus expose players to a small island of"Friday". Players should roughly build the map of this island as above.
After the player has discovered a part of the island, he draws a normal landscape cards from the front deck and makes his normal turn.
This continues now after each 7 stack, until the entire island has been discovered by Friday.

When Friday finds all 6 parts of the island, the player who would have made the next discovery, must move Friday to a different part of the island his choice. The island that Friday is placed on, all players can use the bonus.

Example (with photo): The last card from deck 4 was created. The next player puts one of the expansion cards and presents on Friday. The following week (7 cards of 5 stack), each more, 1 clam gets when he gets sea shells.

Special bonuses of the Friday island
-+ 1 Shell + 1 banana + 1 fish
Every time when a player is scoring a feature and receives one or more of the goods, he receives another one of those goods.
-1 less good for deliveries
Each player supplies a vessel with one less good, as the ship usually requires. These goods can freely be chosen by the player.
-Trade in goods
Each player may now before he put on the map in his turn, trade with other players. He can ask his teammates, whether with him goods want to share. The trade is voluntary, the player may decide freely whether they join the trade. Only goods may be exchanged. The player on the train may share with several players. It may be traded only with the active player. A trade between other players is prohibited.
-Islander insert and withdraw
Players must first insert an Islander on the specified map in their drawn tile, and then again withdraw an Islander from the playing field. It must be executed in this order.

Haha I did! ;D ...with the help of an online translator, so you taking a looksee would be appreciated  8). It literally took me like an hour to hand type all of the German rules into the translator so that we could play the Friday expansion haha. It definitely adds a lot to the game! I already have a few more island bonus tile ideas I want to add to the Friday expansion  :blue-meeple:
