Great, let's get started! The timezones seem pretty good (Carking and Andrew aside!) so it shouldn't be too hard to organise games during the week.

I can play tonight (Wednesday) at 10pm (22:00) Central European Time (9pm UK). Who wants to play against me? I can't host so presuming we're not using the beta online no-host thing, I will need my opponent or a third person to host. I have JCZ 3.0.2 (and 3.0.1 still).

I've retired the laptop I've been using for the last couple of years as the risk of it turning off mid-game was too much. I've installed JCZ 3.0.2 on my wife's laptop and have configured it to be a host but this hasn't been tested yet. So in theory I should be able to host (and am happy to do so as required) but can't say for sure until I've had a chance to test it.

I won't be free until 10pm this evening but I'm still willing to play then Rosco/ Decar? Tomorrow evening should be good for me too.

Sorry for the late reply. I'm in the time zone UTC -5, eastern standard time (EST) in Canada and US. The best time for me would be 7pm to midnight, but that's UTC midnight to 5am? Alternatively, I can do daytime on weekends to play with people in Europe. How's that?

Yes, I think weekends would be best for games between the European-based players and the non-Europeans. I will be away this weekend so I'm probably unavailable (although I will bring my laptop anyway so I might be able to play), but perhaps you could organise a game or two with some of the other players this weekend.

Can someone post up what the time zone differences are in our group? I'm in the Eastern Standard Time Zone.

I know MrNumbers and I had trouble matching our schedules so I hope that doesn't hinder us.

I am not available tomorrow night or Friday but I'd like to try to get in a couple of games over the weekend if anyone can match up time-wise.

I am NZDT (UTC +13).
I need to sit down and look at the timezones, but have a week off work in the first weeke of Feb. Can definitely finish games then if I have not played them prior.
Other times I could play are 0630-0730 NZDT and 1730-2300 NZDT. I tend to be tied up most weekends unfortuneatly.

ny1050220: (same time zone)
danisthirty: 5 hours
Decar: 5 hours
Rosco: 5 hours
B1nder: 6 hours
jungleboy: 6 hours
SRBO: 6 hours
Andrew the Ambo: 18 hours

Hope this helps!  :)

Got a whooping from Rosco.  1 trapped  (+1 probably trapped) meeple and trapped builder in the first 10 moves.  The next 80 moves were a white wash after that :/

jungleboy and I also had a great game. JB played very well (well enough to beat me anyway) and deserved the win. Some parts of the game were a little frustrating for me but this was purely down to the way JB expertly built his cities. I could never find a way in to them, but even if I managed to get a single meeple in he always seemed to have at least two to claim the majority. This said, I didn't seem to find many opportunities to close his cities either and as such he absolutely thrashed me on trade tokens and took 30 bonus points against my 0.  >:(

Well played JB!  :(y) Looking forward to playing Rosco tomorrow evening and will probably be free on Saturday/ Sunday evening too for anyone else?

I felt that this was a closer game than Dan did. He often has a way of pulling out some tricks at the end (though maybe only with bridges and phantoms!) so I never really thought I was safe until there were a couple of tiles left. It's true that I won the two biggest cities and managed to keep Dan out of them, but in the end the city points were basically even so Dan did a good job of completing smaller cities. With about 15 tiles left, I was leading by 18 points and chose to close a city that Dan controlled (he had been bold and lucky in connecting one of my followers to it and then, using his builder, building on this move to potentially add a second follower of his own). This gave him the lead which he held for the rest of the game but it gave me three trade goods and that helped me win them all outright.

Another key part of this game was that no dominant farm emerged, with the largest one containing only five cities. This meant that we both sought to place a single farmer in several different farms rather than trying to add three or four to one big farm as is often the case. Dan was first into a couple of these farms but I managed to glom onto both of them with the help of some fortunate tile draws. So we ended up sharing the points for three different farms but I won a fourth farm outright for 12 points which was most of the difference in the final scoring. This was the first farmer I played and the farm eventually became completely enclosed, meaning that Dan couldn't try to add a farmer of his own.

So in the end the trade goods, the ability to keep Dan out of the two largest cities, and the fourth farm were the keys to victory. Dan easily beat me 41-15 in roads so that's something I should pay more attention to in the future. 41 points on roads in a game without inns seems like a lot.

b1nder and I just played our match and I won 165-120. The scores during the match were very close and we were tied several times but in the end it was the end-game scoring of farms (34-0) and trade goods (30-0) that made the difference.

jungleboy 240 - Andrew the Ambo 103

This was one of those games where everything just seemed to go right for me and I got all the tiles I needed, e.g. if I tried to glom on to a city and Andrew blocked me out, I was then able to glom on with another meeple almost straight away. I accidentally trapped two of his meeples with one move and this gave me a big edge, especially at the end when we were fighting for the main farm and I had more meeples to play with. Meanwhile I drew the city tiles I needed and closed a few of them, winning some trade goods in the process. Towards the end Andrew won some goods back but he had to close my cities to do this, which allowed my score to keep ticking over.

A bit of advice. Don't play against jungleboy, and if you do have to, watch your back! ;-)

He had me trapped very well about a third through the game, making it very hard for me to gain on his lead. I thought I had a few tricks, but to no avail.
I will be available tomorrow from about 0700-0900 UTC if anyone is keen for a game.

I think i probably just played the best game I ever have - and it was against one of the best players on this forum!
205-199 in my favour!

Well JB pretty much had the lead from the outset and was building a nice supply of barrels and silk.  He was being surprisingly cooperative by finishing lost of my features - obviously with an ulterior motive.  I could see that although I was in the lead with pure points, JB had 2 lots of trade goods sewn up and had 2 farmers and a pig on a 10 city farm and had one of my meeples stuck not doing much, and in no time i had no more meeples left in my supply.  There was one thing i needed to turn it around and with only a few tiles to go it appeared! a cccf tile to allow me to finish a large city which gave me the lead with corn and gave me about 20 points straight off.   Now I could see that it was going to be tight.  but still that farm was his so with the last handful of tiles i managed to match his two farmers and pig and also block his 3rd farmer from getting in.

Although, as JB contemplated his last tile to ensure the win, I added up the points and still thought he had it, albeit by only 1 or 2 points.  However he placed his tile, I placed the final tile of the game and BOOM everything changed in an instant and we had a massively high scoring game, with only a few points in it, but most definitaly and unequivacably in my favour.

Thanks Jungleboy for that - it was Awesome!

Title: Re: T & B League: Group A
Post by: jungleboy on January 18, 2015, 12:13:00 AM
From my point of view, I don't really know how I lost the game with Rosco. With 20 tiles left, I had two meeples and a pig in the dominant farm and he had nothing, while I had already won two of the three trade goods. In the chat he said to me "You have this in the bag," and I agreed. Then suddenly he managed to put two meeples in the farm in the shortest possible time frame (four moves in total). I scrambled to try to add a third meeple but the only way I could do it required that I draw a curved road tile to join it and this gave Rosco a fairly easy opportunity to block it by adding another road edge to the required tile, which he did.

In hindsight, my big mistake was not making the large city in the north impossible to close. I drew a tile with about 30-40 tiles left that I could have put in the city which would have left Rosco needing a CCCC tile to close it, and all those tiles were already out. I knew that when I drew the tile, but I chose to close another city with my builder in it instead, hoping I would have another chance to block the larger city. Rosco soon identified the potential problem with the CCCC tile and to avoid this he placed a tile in the city so that it was now a CCCF tile that was needed, which he eventually drew to win the city and a crucial wheat good, which allowed him to take the lead (and ultimately win) that good. A couple of moves earlier I had the opportunity to close the city myself, which in hindsight would have won me the game because of the 20-point swing in the wheat goods.

So, I will rue this one for a while...

Yes Kettlefish. Played jungleboy yesterday, and just finished a great game against B1nder.
I found it quite a tense game, where we were close in scoring throughout. I managed to early on trap B1nders builder, or so I thought. After about 5 turns he got just the right tile to free it. Dashed!
I then managed to trap a few of his other meeples, and also glom into his best farm while he had no meeples to defend or attack (something I learnt the hard way against jungleboy). The result was 188:106.

Good luck B1nder against danisthirty ;-)

I need the result for my x-list.

Scores were: 153 - 142 to B1nder...

B1nder got off to a good start and grew quite a lead which I eventually clawed back after trapping 2 of his meeples and his builder against 1 of mine. There was just one tile left to get them back, which he drew, and then drew the tile I'd been wanting for some time with his builder turn. This was the low point for me, although I didn't feel like I was out of the game until he closed another fairly good city, locking me out of it in the process...

Well played B1nder!  :(y)

Yes same problem.

Heck, I'm running out of weekend!

I should have about an hour to play a game now.  Let me know if you can make it!  Or I'll just join the chat and find out!

One of the most exciting JCZ games I've played, against B1nder.  A sneaky Builder Blocking move at the start (which he later repaid) set me off to a good start.

Claiming the Farm was the winning move for me.  But I really couldn't decide if I should have closed the 30point city for the ribbon; turns out I should have.

Very close game, thanks B1nder!

Rosco v NY1050220

A fairly close game all the way through.  I had an early lead and managed to keep it all the way through but at no stage was the win inevitable.  All NY needed was one cccr tile to dominate a huge city but fortunately for me i got every single one.  He had most of the trade goods but it was just not enough for NY.

Thanks for a great game - another fun league match!

After feeling like I got a pretty raw deal against B1nder earlier on today, I certainly got more than my fair share of luck in this game...

I think I'm 2 wins and 2 losses now at the halfway stage of my Traders & Builders campaign! Still got Decar, SRBO, Carcking and Andrew the Ambo left to play.

My game with SRBO:

This was a harsh start to the competition for SRBO as I trapped three of his meeples (two monks, one thief) with one rare tile which I later drew and placed elsewhere. He also spent much of the game without two other meeples and his builder as they were all stuck in a city with three of my meeples and my builder. He never gave up the fight though, and played some excellent defensive moves which made life very difficult for me in places...

Result was 221 to 192 in my favour.
It started as quite an even game.  I closed a few cities to get the trade goods and when I closed the bottom left City which we were even for I realised I had an unbeatable majority in all 3 goods.
This made all the difference as we did not have any decent scoring farms as near the end of the game Richie had plenty of meeples to place.

Monday is a holiday here so I will be available Sunday night UTC for any games.

Well played! Sounds like it was a good game...  :)

Monday is a holiday here so I will be available Sunday night UTC for any games.

Looking forward to it already!

I have just played Decar. It was a win for me: 191 - 106.

Glad to have won but I feel bad about it as I trapped two of Decar's meeples from the start (one in a city and one in an adjacent cloister) and he spent most of the game with 2 more meeples and his builder stuck in a city along with 2 of my meeples. I got 30 points from trade goods and 28 points from the main farm as Decar never had enough meeples free to compete for it. I got pretty lucky with some of the tiles I was drawing towards the end as well and completed a few small cities to keep my score ticking over.

Thanks for the game Dan, I was hoping you wouldn't so straight for the trapping at the start.  Should have been more patient with my last farmer.  But can't compete with 30 points the trade goods thanks to the city in the middle, here's a break down:

So well, Here is the match between me and jungleboy..
we both agreed it was a weird match.
I started very soon with a farm and jungle wanted to share it. So we started a little competition over it in which jungleboy lost 4 farmers really early in the game.
I had 2 guys trapped so we both only had some left.

Then i joined his city. and kicked him out after a while. It kept growing and growing until this monstrous city you see above. sadly we couldnt finish it and it was a really close game.

Goodgame  to jungleboy

Yes this was a strange game. I didn't mean to commit so many farmers early but it just happened that way. Then the key tile for the big city came when SRBO drew the CCCC tile from T&B with two different diagonal city segments, which allowed him to join his second meeple and block out my second meeple at the same time. I tried to get a second meeple into the city but I couldn't do it. The other very important thing earlier was SRBO using a RRRR tile to block my attempt to join the two biggest farms together, which would have given me an advantage.

Just played against ny1050220 - it was a pretty fun game.  I only really managed to win with a lucky tile to win the huge city in the middle and kept his farmers at bay right at the end with some interesting blocking moves.  The big city gave me the all important trade tokens, it was hard for NY to catch up at that point; but I was kept on my toes!

Just played Andrew - fantastic game, a fair bit of skullduggery but generally honest play.  I managed to isolate trade goods and trap my builder in an unfinishable (only just!!) city; followed by almost losing it right at the end!  Andrew managed to pull all but one cloister and used them to great effect!

My game with Jungleboy.
I was very lucky to:
1. be able to close the huge city on the top left.
2. Got the tile with my pig on it to connect my farmer to the left of that tile.
3. blocked jungleboy's farmer in the centre right.

Just didn't get the tiles on this game - Some cunning trapping from jungleboy and good opening farm play.  The Trade goods really got me where it hurts completing the city on the RHS and trapped the other waiting for a CRfr tile which fell into jungleboy's hands.

Decar: 117 Jungleboy: 204

Here's my game with Andrew,
I was also very lucky to complete the city on the bottom when Andrew was trying to block it.
Also, Andrew's builder was blocked very early in the game on a road, and he needs a rfrf tile. I just happened to have all of them by magic.

Here's my game with SRBO.
It was a ridiculous one in that we started with 3 separately cities, but they slowly grow into a single one, with 8 followers and 2 builders. I was very lucky to finish it so I got the goods, which puts me in lead through the game.
I was waiting for the ffrr to connect either my farmer on the bottom right to the 24-point-farm, but I simply didn't get one. So I ended up with claiming the 3-point farm all over the place, which, I believe, finally help me win the game.

My game with Andrew the Ambo:

I was slightly hesitant at first but trapped Andrew's builder within the first dozen tiles (along with one of each of our meeples - a sacrifice I was more than prepared to make!) We competed for a large city elsewhere and by the time we'd each got 2 knights into it it was worth a lot of trade tokens. I was already leading on trade tokens so I chose to make this uncloseable rather than risk losing my advantage. An early farmer and an awkward cloister meant that Andrew was severely limited in terms of what he could claim after this whereas I seemed to have at least 1 or 2 meeples in hand for much of the game and used these to claim small road/ cities as they became available.

In the end, nothing seemed to go Andrew's way but I don't mind admitting that the final score difference surprised me and certainly doesn't reflect how close the game could have been if I hadn't been so trappy throughout...

I believe this puts me on 5 wins/ 2 losses = 15 league points now that I've played everyone apart from Carcking. +139 for my score differential is very gladly received too!

Carcking has played his first game!

It was an early one for me (5am) and a late one for him (midnight) and the game took an hour to play.

In summary, I felt like I was completely outclassed by Carcking and lost by 50 points: 175 - 125! There was still the opportunity for this to have been reduced to a 25-point loss up as far as the last 2 tiles, but I drew something useless and Carcking drew the one I needed to match him on barrels and share a 15-point farm with him.

I think we both enjoyed a similar share of the luck but Carcking used his builder much more effectively than I did, even though it became trapped early on (although the city it was building was still open to expansion). Despite the score difference, I can only think of one occasion where I made a horrendous tile placement and regretted it immediately afterwards. Carcking played me at my own game though (i.e. trapping) and I really struggled to keep my score ticking over as a result of being very scarce on meeples for much of the game.

Well played Carcking! This is the end of the line for me as I've played all 8 of my games: 15 league points won (5 wins), +326 total score differential. This makes me the first finisher as far as I'm aware. What's my prize?  ;)

The first stage of your evil master plan has been carried out sir  ;)

Beat Carcking by 110 points and you'll finish ahead of me (he might have something to say about that though)...

EDIT: 109 would tie with me I think
Title: Re: T & B League: Group A
Post by: MrNumbers on January 28, 2015, 12:00:10 AM
EDIT: 109 would tie with me I think

In case of a tie on score differential next tie breaker is total scored points, and jungleboy needs to score more than 167 points to beat you (which is quite possible). But in this case Carcking must have equal or less than 59 points (which is much more difficult than the first condition).
Title: Re: T & B League: Group A
Post by: jungleboy on January 28, 2015, 12:14:38 AM
Is it too late for me to request that the first tiebreaker should be the result of the head-to-head matchup rather than points difference?  :P

Wow, good game Dan! That was fun and exciting and I had trouble getting back to sleep! :) I felt like I had an edge but that it could change on any tile draw. I know you played the tile to close my Builder city and took that game play from me...if you had not, and I had one more Builder turn, the tile you needed at the end would have been yours...too much to think about really. I was expecting you to commit one of your last followers to attempt to win that city. Every tile I played there I was trying to anticipate how available a glomming tile might be. Who knows, ownership of that 23+ point city along with your magic farming tile, and it could have been a different outcome. I was sweating it, and actually felt better when you closed it.  >:D I feel like we are closely matched and you are fun to play against. Thanks again!

(I apologize to the Community for being unavailable lately. I'm getting back though. And I have a game scheduled tomorrow morning and one tomorrow night so far.)
Title: Re: T & B League: Group A

Thanks for those kind words. I really enjoyed our game too!  :(y)

Looking back on it now, I think I was so hesitant to use my builder in case you blocked him that I hardly used him at all so he may as well have been trapped anyway. Furthermore, my trapping of your builder turned out to be thoroughly pointless as you still generated a good number of bonus turns from him because I didn't think to shut the city down to stop you expanding it.

Great minds eh? I felt sure that you were going to do the same thing, particularly with the aid of your builder, and especially since you had at least 1, sometimes 2 more meeples than I did in the last quarter of the game.

My biggest mistake was the ccff where I placed my pig. I almost shouted at myself out loud immediately afterwards as this gave you a good opportunity to block the second farmer I was trying to add to that farm. An opportunity that you made the most of! All I needed was a rfxx tile to get him on (which I drew immediately after you'd blocked me here  ::) ) - if I'd done this I imagine you would have merged the farms at the top to give us an equal share in the resulting mega-farm, which I may consequently have won outright (along with the game) if I'd just drawn that crfr tile rather than the rubbish cccc tile for my final turn.

Anyway, there's a lot of ifs, buts, maybes, should'ves and could'ves in the paragraph above. The simple fact is that you seemed to out-think me at every stage and although I felt like you had a slight edge throughout much of the game you completely outplayed me towards me the end and deserved the victory!

(I apologize to the Community for being unavailable lately. I'm getting back though. And I have a game scheduled tomorrow morning and one tomorrow night so far.)

Excellent! Who are you playing tomorrow morning?

I would have preferred it if it had ended with some sort of unpleasant cccc tile divided diagonally into two cities, perhaps with a barrel on one of the city segments. It would have been far nicer if the starter tile had matched the penultimate tile to be placed...  :))

That is the luck component. If skill levels are balanced it comes down to the draw.

Here my game with Carcking. Congratulations, Carcking!
Since very early in the game, I have had 4 followers and the builder trapped. Even though I got the crff tile later to release 2 followers and the builder, I still lost the game to Carcking.
To whomever that is going to play with him, watch your back! Calculate the probabilities! Otherwise you'll be like me, struggling in vain almost the whole game.
Title: Re: T & B League: Group A
Post by: Carcking on January 29, 2015, 06:06:54 PM
Good game ny! It drew a lot closer toward the end. I felt that if there were 4 or 5 more turns you would have overtaken me. Your follower management toward the end was good and I think you got the most out of them. The game surely turned for you on the CRFF draw. I knew that was a 50/50 trap when I built it. You got the better end of that draw. Thanks for the fun game!

And thanks for psyching out the competition for me!!
Title: Re: T & B League: Group A
Post by: danisthirty on January 30, 2015, 01:17:27 AM
If you'd told me how close the final scores were going to be after 20 or 30 tiles I probably wouldn't have believed you!

Carcking really focussed on shutting down every available opportunity for ny1050220 from the start and by the middle of the game, most of ny's meeples (and builder) were trapped and there was a score difference of about 50 points.

Getting the required crff tile really put ny back in the game and so began a very impressive comeback, which fell just short once the final scores and end-game bonuses had been taken into account. Regardless of this though, I was in awe of how well ny managed with so few meeples, even if it surprised me at times.

Great game guys, shame there could only be one winner!  :)

The score in the Carcking vs. B1nder game was 206 - 154 to Carcking but I didn't have time to screenshot the score of the B1nder/ SRBO game before my son spent several seconds bashing the keyboard with various disastrous consequences...

Here's my game with SRBO.

167Decar : 137 SRBO - Talk about luck of the draw.  All SRBO got was roads, roads more roads and the occasional cloisters; but every city he got he attacked with.  I drew some mega lucky cards to steal the majority Trade Goods then established numerous small farms for the end game.  I put my builder to good use at the start of the game, and equally well at the end, milking the tiles while I had the advantage.  SRBO attacked until the very end!  Hopefully we'll play again soon :)

I was really unfortunate on this one.. Just like the one with B1nder i really had a bad draw. well played anyway

Just got beaten by SRBO 202-179. I made a stupid move mid game where I split a city instead of merging to give me the majority. Realised as soon as I hit skip what I did. SRBO got an early lead on trade goods, but I managed to get back in. Also had a lucky break at the end getting the tile to equalise the big farm, I had been waiting for a rrxx until SRBO tried to trap it. In the end, it looks like it may have come down to my mistake mid game. Oh well. Win some, loose some.

Many games since my last x-list.

Carcking has to play 4 games against:
- jungleboy
- Andrew the Ambo
- Decar
- SRBO
-----------------
danisthirty, Rosco, B1nder, ny1050220 have finished all their 8 games.
-----------------
The newest x-list follows...

I've been doing a little bit of analysis based on who might still win the group and what they need to do in order to do so. Four of us have already finished and I'm in the lead so far, so I've compared those still playing against myself...

I have 15 league points (5 wins) so anything less than this means no chance of winning. Therefore, anybody with 4 or more losses against them won't be able to achieve 15 points (since we each play 8 games). Sadly, this eliminates Andrew the Ambo and SRBO.

Technically, Decar could still top our group. He has won four games so far and has one left to play so if he wins this he will finish with 15 points meaning we go to the first tie-breaker. My total score differential is 326 and Decar is currently -130. This means that he would have to beat Carcking by 457 points to finish ahead of me...  :o

Jungleboy is in a similar position but with less of a mountain to climb. If he can beat Carcking by 110 points then he would also overtake me as he also has four wins behind him.

Finally, Carcking has managed 3 wins so far but has 4 matches left to play. If he can win 3 or more of them then he is guaranteed to finish at the top of the group. If he wins just 2 of them then the top spot will be settled by score differential, but if he loses 3 or more then he won't finish in first.

So there's still everything to play for!  :(y)

If cracking loses the rest of his games, I will still come top 3!

I think

My last game is played - It was by far my favourite game, Carcking was playing me point for point right to the end.

We constructed two huge cities knowing that if either player completed it they'd win.  But with both builders out of action neither of us could play 2 cities to complete in a row.

I made a mistake with my builder by placing it on the bottom right.  Carcking made a similar mistake, by played for the majority on the left city - all the CCCC cards were gone, so he trapped 4+Builder vs 3 of mine!

I nabbed the big farm in the middle and lopped it off.  I got a road to place to pig but Carcking played the cloister for 9,  but I got an extra city for 4.  I played for a cheap farm with my last move.... look at the score:

Carcking 138
Decar 137

Carcking a brilliant game, heart racing with every move - Thank you sir!

I played two amazing games tonight - both against outstanding opponents. I won't be able to sleep for hours now  :-\

Decar - what can I say - that was THE most nerve racking game I have ever played - is that somebody's idea of fun and relaxation?? ;) Great game, well played!

Andrew the Ambo - also took me down to the wire. He got a lucky city tile draw earlier in the game which secured two trade goods for him along with a 22 point city. After that play he had all three trade goods in his pocket. That was awesome for him. I had to look for an avenue to win without the trade goods...a tall order. I got a lucky city tile draw very late in the game which secured the wheat for me, finally. Then it was down to small farms. I made a 1 point mistake with my pig at the end and flashbacks of Decar's game streaked before my eyes - I could just see the poetic justice in losing by 1 point after winning by 1 point. Yikes. In the end it was 6 points. Cudos to Andrew for playing the game close with his builder trapped about half way through! Another great game, well played!

The builder doesnt look happy!  I couldn't sleep after the game so stayed up for the results.

Which means Carcking has 15 points and two games to play :D

The builder was not happy.  It was a great game Carcking. Very even throughout. We only have 2 games left in our group I believe, which puts us ahead of group B finally.

Talk about saving the best until last! 2 games won by just 7 points between them!

Well played guys, I'm really excited about the last 2 games now!

Ranking based on players who have played 8 games:

danisthirty 15pts (326)
Rosco 12pts (73)
ny1050220 12pts (41)
Decar 12pts (-131)
B1nder 9pts (-182)
Andrew the Ambo 6pts (-310)

Ranking based on players who have played 7 games:

jungleboy 12pts (217) - 1 game to play
SRBO 9pts (-95) - 1 game to play

Ranking based on players who have played 6 games:

Carcking 15pts (61) - 2 games to play

This means Carcking is guaranteed to finish 1st unless he loses both of his outstanding games. If this happens, the group could be won by either jungleboy or I depending on how many points jungleboy wins by.

Carcking and jungleboy will be playing each other at 11pm GMT on Thursday (6pm for Carcking, midnight for jungleboy).

I assume that to make it fair this game will be handicapped, with the person who plays at midnight getting a head start. I think 110 points seems about right.  >:D

Carcking, do me a favour and win by over 144 points will you!

Thanks in advance.

Oh yes, if you let srbo win, don't let him win by too much. Just a few points would be fine.

Thanks again

Haha - I'll have to get cracking on it!

I wonder...Who can calculate the mathematical highest score possible given the tile set? It would have to start with the maximum number of cities that could be made, a maximum number of farms and roads, and all cloisters completed. And of course all three trade goods. That would be interesting to see.

Carcking and I just played an epic game that was absolutely anyone's game with 10 tiles to go. In the end I pulled the right tiles and put a 4th follower into a monster city and blocked Carcking's 4th follower out of it in one double (builder) move, so that was the difference and I won 149-112.

1st: danisthirty (15 points) +326 TSD
2nd: jungleboy (15 points) +254 TSD
3rd: Carcking (15 points) -27 TSD
4th: Rosco (12 points) +73 TSD
5th: ny1050220 (12 points) +41 TSD

So we're pretty much done!

Well done everyone, in Group A, thanks very much for all the games!

what's the plan now - wait for group B to finish and play against your equivalently ranked player?

Are we still considering a knockout round afterwards?

Yep. Thanks everyone, this has been a blast and I've really learnt a lot about T & B in the process. I'm glad that everyone has won at least one game too, and that on the whole, it's been a very even group...  :(y)

what's the plan now - wait for group B to finish and play against your equivalently ranked player?

Exactly. They have 5 games left to play at present. Hopefully this shouldn't take more than a week but it will depend largely on quevy's availability as he is involved in 4 of them.

Are we still considering a knockout round afterwards?

There won't be an official knock-out stage. I think it's best to keep things simple and treat leagues as leagues unless we have a good reason not to. Plus there will be another competition soon anyway, so watch this space!  :)
Title: Re: T & B League: Group A
Post by: Decar on February 06, 2015, 03:03:17 AM
Awesome!  I didn't really like the sound of a knock-out phase, because the person who came 16th in the Group stage, could have 4 lucky games and win the whole competition.  It's unlikely but might throw things up.  But, perhaps the top 4 from both group stages could do a semi and final?

Now that Group B has finished, the final matches of the league will be as follows:

Battle for 1st/2nd: danisthirty vs. MrNumbers
Battle for 3rd/4th: jungleboy vs. zone2
Battle for 5th/6th: Carcking vs. Jere
Battle for 7th/8th: Rosco vs. quevy
Battle for 9th/10th: ny1050220 vs. Leven
Battle for 11th/12th: SRBO vs. Hounk
Battle for 13th/14th: Decar vs. Yall
Battle for 15th/16th: B1nder vs. farin
Battle for 17th/18th: Andrew the Ambo vs. Yellow

Let's do it!  :blue-meeple: :(y)
