Title: Carcassonne game night in Riga
Post by: MrNumbers on September 03, 2015, 06:27:47 AM
Recently one nice bar contacted me in order to organize a board game night in their place. They just opened up and wanted to attract more visitors, and I needed a place for my events, what I try to organize monthly.
This Sunday Carcassonne game night took place. The personnel was very nice to me, their marketing department chief met me personally and she even played one Carcassonne game, first in her life! Also, she distributed special coupons, that worked only for this game night, with 10% discount for all food in their bar. Also she prepared another nice surprise for my visitors - the winner(s) of this game night receive(s) free cocktail!
Together we had 8 games, zone2 also was there and he won 3 of 4 played games (he lost only in South Seas, because he never played it before), accordingly he received this free cocktail. Also I promised a special prize, Carcassonne demo game, for the most active person. You can check out this game night's report (http://www.carcassonne.lv/atskaite-vakars-30-08-2015/) on my website. It's in Latvian, but you can just watch some photos :)
We already have a deal for the next game night in the end of September, same place. Hope to see more people coming! ;D

We were 8, including me. It is strange that people don't cancel their visit in Facebook, if they know they don't come. In Facebook there were 22 guests, but only 2(!) of them came, others came without registering in FB.

This Sunday I had another Carcassonne game night and it had big success! The attendance record was beaten - 21 participant! Especially people liked two new spin-offs - those boxes never had a rest, people specially waited until they will be free.
I also had a special guest from Russia - he is Russian national championship vice-champion and twice took 3rd place. He plays very good - he won 3 of 4 games he played. Also there were two girls from Check Republic, they are in Latvia on
Erasmus (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erasmus_Programme) program.
Some photos on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=677471159054356&id=328070887327720).

This sounds very exciting! Well done for organising it MrNumbers. :(y)

Did you get the chance to play the Russian vice-champion?

I haven't played a single game! All the time I was explaining and helping with the rules, bringing people together by suggesting a spin-off or expansion set to play, and writing down the results of the matches. Nevertheless, it was fun and I am very satisfied with the event. Hope you will have the same fun on your event on Saturday (except you all will have some games!) :D

Very strange... I don't see it anywhere.
I don't see relevant notification in past 3 days (see attachment).
I visited your FB page, and I don't see "Carcassonne Latvija" in your "Likes".
It seems it is some FB glitch or something ???

Another successful event, and another record breaking - 27 participants played 20 games! This time I even was able to play 2 games - base game against completely newbie to Carcassonne, and Star Wars. Link to pictures (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.688072251327580.1073741831.328070887327720&type=3)
I noticed that spin-offs are more popular on my events than classic Carcassonne with expansions. My theory is: 1. Spin-offs are interesting for its' themes. 2. People with less experience in Carcassonne feel more comfortable playing stand-alone game. In fact spin-off is equal to base game + one expansion, if we mean playing time and number of additional rules, for example. Playing different spin-off every time you get completely new gameplay (of course, relatively), but classic Carcassonne + expansion is +/- the same, even if expansions are different. For example, mini-expansions only have few tiles, which affects the gameplay, other tiles remain the same. Only very experienced players want to play 2-3 hours long game with 4+ expansions.
Or, maybe my participants want to win a free cocktail by winning as many games as they can? 3 won games almost guarantee you it :D

I like it that you organize the game evenings in your country.
It is great to see that all the spin-off games has been played.
