PapaGeek, would it be possible to change the Subject of this thread to The Coast as there's a completely different set of expansions called The Ocean, and I feel it would be best to avoid any confusion.

Thanks, that looks to be it. It was just I didn't think I'd seen it when creating the fan expansion data sets for WICA.

The open sea tile was simply to fill in gaps in larger lakes ... or fill in gaps along the coastline to make things neat and tidy (OCD tendencies). You can choose which of the 30 tiles to use, use all of them, or even make multiple copies of the tiles you like. I have a number of open ocean tiles with different designs - sea monsters, ships, compass rose, etc. - that I use to fill in gaps. Or you can use some of the island tiles from STS or MotO for this.

My original reason for creating The Coast was dissatisfaction with the original river end/lake tile, in particular that it wasn't geographically correct. So I created the river mouth tile, and some coast tiles that would create a section of coastline against which the regular landscape could be laid during normal play.

The reason for there being less "three-water-sided" tiles was that when creating a length of coastline, having too many of them might result in the creation of an island, or promontory, at the start of the game, possibly making an area of the playing area unusable because it would be sea. And I prefer to include unique tile designs, rather than multiples of the same tile within a set, especially where it is more generic than specific in mechanics.

If you want to keep the layout phase of the coast separate, you could print these and mount them on thick card (rather than blank tiles). I think having three separate rivers, and river mouths used might lead to a series of partially complete coast areas at different locations on the playing area - this might be OK for your group. Or you could have one sea coastline, and two smaller lakes ending the rivers. There are endless possibilities.

I included a few different images on the original thread for The Coast showing how the tiles might be used

What's the brown tile next to the start tile in the centre of the board (picture)? I don't recognise it.

I've asked @Meepledrone to move the comments into tabs (which he's created) on the Selector. That is the final thing to be done at this stage. I don't know when he'll be able to do it.

Hi PapaGeek,

Thanks for your interest in this expansion.

The road running into the ocean (or to the beach) is a road end as normal, and stops the field getting round it. I suppose I could have put a jetty/pier there. It is scored and completed as normal, so an inn along its length would score double, or none if still incomplete at game end.

As to the first three tiles, the field is split by the cottage and road on the third tile, but the field goes around the cottage on the middle tile, and the field goes around the village on the first tile. I should probably have made that more obvious with that village tile.

Regarding the tiles with two city edges and the short road. I hadn't intended that that section of road would be scored in normal play, as it is already "complete". Remember that there is a CRCR tile in Inns and Cathedrals that has a crossroads at its centre and you cannot place a meeple on the short road sections between the crossroads and the city gates on those tiles.

As my games are usually two-player, we generally place the river mouth close to one side of the table and mix the river tiles and some coast tiles together for the first stage of play. Lately, it has been 8 or 10 of the straight coast sections, and 3/4 of the "bay" corner ones. Once two of the "bay" tiles have been drawn and placed, the other coast tiles are ignored. Feel free to use the coast tiles in any way you like, either as a large lake, several small lakes connected by sections of river, as a simple coastline or river estuary. For a large lake, I would suggest placing some open water tiles first in any layout, such as an L-shape, T-shape, or similar (you might want to print more of them) and then create the coastline around them - players can place the drawn tiles anywhere against the water tiles (including the corners), to create a complete lake.

For your central scoreboard, build the river out from it and mix the river mouth tile with the other river tiles. When it is drawn, you could then layout a large lake, and if you wanted to include other river mouth tiles, then that gives you the option of other sections of river. Unless you are using The Coast at the edge of the table, I'd recommend creating a closed lake area so you don't have a large area of the table that is unusable.

If you want to leave out some of the "empty" coast tiles (that's the ones with just grass and sea - no roads, cities, etc), that's also fine with me - we do!

You might also be interested in my "Catch Of The Day" expansion which adds trade tokens to some of these tiles, Sailing The Seas and Masters of the Ocean, which are all available from the Downloads section (see under Ocean and The Coast sub categories). There are also various threads discussing these expansions.

Welcome to the Forum, and your first post.

Nothing springs to mind immediately and I've tried a few text searches (including "9 points") without luck here and the archived forum.

I've helped create a list on Wikicarpedia of all the known fan expansions, and there are quite a few that use fish tokens, but they are mostly associated with rivers, and some with fishermen (a mix of river and lake based expansions). You can see what's listed at :-

https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Expansion_List_-_Test

where you select categories (and within them, sub-categories) - select all (except Publishers) to start with, then remove any you don't want - then scroll down looking for expansions that have fish tokens or fish meeples. You have to have something selected in each category otherwise you get no results.

https://wikicarpedia.com/index.php/Expansion_List_-_Descriptions

lists all the expansion descriptions (use your browser "Find" to find any keywords).

These pages list published fan expansions, others that have had some development/design/rules, and some "musings/ideas" In some cases, if it was a minor suggestion it might have been overlooked.

Carcassonne with portals to the tiles from another Carcassonne game session[/li][/list]

You can get it already - see Mirror Zone by @Ker42

You don't have to use the negative scoring and just use the tiles to provide you with the portals to the other session, whether of the same edition, or a spinoff.

    And as for ...

    Diagonal Carcassonne

is this what you were thinking about - my Carcassonne Rotated 45 Degrees?

Glad to hear you're getting the results now. I think I had a similar problem (assuming that if I select just the "C1" entry it would include any expansion tagged as C1) when I was initially trying to test it was working (it's meepledrone's code).

If you check Authors (or Features) at the top level it selects them all. If you want to restrict them to one or two specifics, best to leave unchecked at first, then expand the group and select the ones you want.

There is no other version that is more complete than what is on that page. The “Under Construction” at the bottom is just a tag to give an indication of the page’s status, and clicking on that link probably takes you to a page showing all the pages on the site with that status. When we go live, the status tag will change. We used these early on with the site as all new pages went through a create/check/approve work stream so that any silly errors could be picked up and fixed.

The link Scott gave will give you the results I showed, but, at first, with nothing selected, you only get the section headers for the results. You also have to check most parts of the Selector to get anything to display. Try the settings exactly as shown and then let us know what you see. If it’s not what I had in the second image, something must be wrong somewhere that requires investigating. If you want to filter the results more you can then use the two lower selection criteria to filter by author name or features, such as City or Dragon.

By “going live” with it will mean removing the “Test” from the page name and adding links to it from the Fan Expansion page and possibly the Home Page too. I need to discuss this with @Meepledrone, who has some program changes to make to cope with data structure changes I want to remove unused data columns.

The extra tabs will contain the two explanatory tables so they don’t fill the main page, but they’ve not been created yet. That’s part of the final changes, too.

The numbers that show in the Filter tab indicate how many matches have been found and are displayed below. Initially it will be 0/1316 (if there are 1316 entries in the data file) but it changes to, say, 512/1316, when any results are shown.

The table sections below the selector automatically update and show all the matching expansions depending on the selections. There is no "button" to run the query.

The current version is, more or less, ready to go to a final location on the site. However, all of the Musings are currently shown (they don't conform to the selection criteria) and that has to be fixed first, and I'd like to put the explanatory tables into separate info tabs. There are then some data updates to be applied once it goes live.

On a full screen this is what it should look like ...

Isn’t it the Magenta colour plate for a box that will hold a set of Carcassonne Collectable Cards?

The box will hold 52 cards in designs and layouts taken from the base game. Each player will be dealt a hand of 7 cards and, in turn, take the top card from a stack of the remaining cards, discarding one from their hand.

Players must create complete features before laying them down in front of them. These will be scored as normal at the end of the game. Players may have several separate, distinct, sets in front of them, or may combine them to create a larger block. When the first player has placed all their cards, the round is over. Players score for completed features, but lose points for each card left in their hand.

Monasteries will be complete when they have four adjacent (touching) cards.

Alternatively, the same basic mechanism is followed, but a central landscape is created and points scored according to the features completed when the card sets are added.

Additional sets of four cards will become available in foil packs, containing several cards from the base game, plus 1 or 2 other, collectable, cards that bring additional features into the game - inns on roads, trade tokens in cities, new card layouts, etc.
