My first Carcassone expansion! (Well, other than The River that came with my original game.)
This is the picture I texted my wife to announce its arrival.
I saw you were deciding between new and old art. Did you go with the old art then? I prefer old style much more, but it's so expensive, and no expansions reprinted in the old style. How did you choose?
Hi Fallred, I decided to go with the old art because... 1. I want to enjoy this game now, including the expansions, rather wait for who-knows-how-many years for all of them to be re-released with the new art. (Knowing how my wife and I play games, Carcassonne will only stay our favorite game for a while, before we move on to something else, although it will stay in rotation for a long time. I want to enjoy it while we're really into it.) 2. I don't expect some of the old expansions will ever be reprinted in the new art, especially some of the smaller promos that I have my eye on like Castles in Germany and Halflings. I want to pick them up while there's still a chance to get them for decent prices (see below). 3. I like the old art better. As for how to buy them, I'm just taking my time and looking out for deals. There are still a LOT of old-art expansions floating around for sale, but I expect that to become less and less so. Look on BoardGameGeek's marketplace, eBay, used sales on Amazon, and stores like Cundco and Boardgameshop.eu. The shipping from these last two can be terrible, but it can also be quite reasonable if you're shipping small stuff (e.g. 4 euros from Cundco for three small expansions) or ordering enough at once to make the shipping costs worth it. Also see CarcC's Recommended Supplier List for more places to shop -- http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=30.0. Hope that helps!

Nice. You guys will love it. It definitely adds a lot of enjoyment without getting too complicated. Get ready for some high scores.

My wife and I are big Dominion fans. In general, I'm pretty much with whaleyland. From my own experience and what I've read/heard, I'd say:
1. Prosperity 2. Seaside 3. Hinterlands
And yes, you probably want to avoid Alchemy.

I'm with you, Paul, in liking the old art more.
And I'm definitely in the camp that would strongly prefer to have the artwork match up, appreciating the visual aspect of the game. Minor color differences between some of the 1.0 expansions (e.g. Castles in Germany looks quite a bit darker to me) are fine by me, but a fully different style of art is enough to sway me away from buying conflicting expansions... hence my question.

So has there been any official word on future plans for Carcassonne 2.0 -- e.g. what expansions they plan to release -- and if there will ever be any reprints or further expansion for Carcassonne 1.0?
I feel like I've discovered this game at an awkward time in terms of deciding what products to purchase (1.0 or 2.0) and whether or not to wait. If I knew everything (or most everything) was going to come out in 2.0 during the next few years, that would be great... but I'm guessing we have no such word from HiG/Z-man/etc., right?

I'd be happy to jump in if quevy or kettlefish could send me a tile to sign. I'm not picky: I'll sign whatever's helpful + someone can send me to sign -- it can be part of the City of Carcassonne, or just a road, or whatever.
If you send me your address via personal message I am happy to send the tile.
Thanks quevy! Sent to you.

That's pretty nifty. I like having it inside that actual game box like that. Although I'd probably want to try making my own before shelling out the 18 Euros.

I somehow stumbled into www.boardgameshop.eu which has a good selection, and the shipping is much more tolerable than from Cundco (I paid $11 for shipping three mini expansions to the USA... and it would have only been $13 for two minis and a large expansion). That said, I'm a newbie at buying Carc, so I'd appreciate an update to this thread too if there's more to be listed.

I now have a couple of things to pass on:
German Castles German Monasteries a sheet of stickers saying 'this game belongs to ....' a pink little meeple on board sticker
Thanks
Rosco, I'm assuming the your German Castles have already been snatched up? If not, I would absolutely LOVE to get them. Having recently discovered the world of Carcassone, I looked through almost all the expansions and I feel like my wife would like playing with German Castles more than with most expansions.

I'm new here and was just looking through the list (helpful, thank you!!), and have a couple corrections and one addition: 1. Correction: All the Z-man Games links are now broken (The Festival, The School, Blank Tiles) 2. Addition: I just picked up The Phantoms from boardgameshop.eu ( http://www.boardgameshop.eu/carcassonne-uitbreiding-de-volgeling.html) for 4 Euros. Thanks again for this list.
