Carcassonne with Teams of 2 (or more players)
« on: October 14, 2017, 05:04:01 AM »
I guess a few of us have more than one base game or equivalent (I have the wheel of fortune and soon will also have the 2017 big box) allowing teams to play, 2 vs 2, where the team both use the same colour meeples.

I'm planning a Red vs Blue game with 4 players. 14 vs 14 meeples....although, I could add in a plastic meeple per player from the 10th Anniversary edition so that we all get a 'phantom'.

Has anyone else played team Carcassonne games?  Which rules / expansions did/did not work for you?

Oeh, i like the idea!
I havent played any team carcassonne game, but i am definatly up for trying it! So you say you'd need 2 basegames of tiles to play it? Or just more meeples?
I reckon the latter, so you play with one basegame and 14 meeples per team?

I like the idea, too! I never had more than 3 experiences players to try this, although we did discuss possible mechanisms of teaming. For example, the two players in a team use their own colours and everything else works the same as the standard rule; you just add the final scores of the two in the team.
Before I digress too much ::)
Owning two base games is definitely a direct way to owning 14 meeples, but I suppose people could just play mega-carcassonne with more meeples in teams. Sounds goods?
What order do players take? Red 1, Blue 1, Red 2, and then Blue 2? Would Red1-Blue1-Blue2-Red2 work? This order might makes it easier to trap meeples. After all, 14 meeples sound a lot and I think we should add some mechanisms to make it more challenging.

Yep,
Base Game or WoF (or 10th Anniv)
Maybe 2 or 3 major expansions and 3 or 4 minor/mini expansions.
14 Meeples per team....or 16 if Phantoms/Anniv. are included

For turn order i would say team 1, 2, 1, 2. Makes it a bit more interesting from my experience with other team games.
I think most expansions will work fine, as long as both teams have 1 colour, and then id say also 1 of the expansion figures. So 1 builder/pig/mayor/barn/etc. Makes it a bit more interesting

Hi Halfling.

Have a look at the Dream Teams tournament that we began here a few years ago. It was good fun! We played as teams of 2 and totalled up individual scores to work out team scores. Round 1 was base game + Princess & Dragon. Biggest problem was getting all 4 people together at once for the games but I guess if you're playing in person that becomes much easier.
