My wife bought me this cool wooden box for anniversary.  It didn't come with dividers, but it's still pretty sweet.

Mine is hopefully in the mail.  I am giving it to my wife though.  She is a teacher.

Monasteries have monks and abbots, so there is nothing you can do there.  Cloisters can be changed to convents and you could then have nuns.  The problem there is the game is 15 years old and it is way too late to change one of the basic terms.

Carc II is relatively new, so I think the change should be made there.  Abbots and monks don't normally leave their Monasteries, but friars do.  Friars went out among the people and I suppose could also garden...  The problem then is the meeple doesn't really look like a friar.  Actually the abbots in the new game are pretty lame and shouldn't be used.  The gardens should be used like vineyards from Hills and Sheeps.  There you go, problem solved.   >:D

Until the blue Windrose appears and South moves :P

With all of the crusading and pillaging, they may have lost their way a little bit.

I made an expansion a few years ago about the Franish reconquest of Gaul from the Moors. Check it out: http://carcassonnecentral.com/forum/index.php?topic=1116.0.

Edit: Apparently I need to re-find the files. They are all linked to my old WorldofCatan site, which doesn't exist anymore. Here's the link to the rules, at least: http://www.whaleyland.com/downloads/gaulrules.pdf

Cool idea.  Your expansion would work well with Die Windrosen so players would know which way was South.

A Moor battle orientated expansion would definitly earn my interest!

I agree.  Heck, I am still hoping for some besiegers.

Ok we have monks, abbots, bishops, and heretics.  I'm looking forward to the future additions of cardinals, nuns, and perhaps rabbi.

We also have the Abt

What about an Imam (islam)?

I'm not sure how close to France the Moors made it before getting kicked out.

I just Googled it and the Moors at one time controlled Carcassonne... I smell an expansion.

I ordered mine today.

The bad news is that I missed out on besiegers.
The good news is they let me stuff a lot of mini expansions into the 3,95 shipping envelope.  Last time I had to keep the total order under 10 Euros.

Thanks for your advice.  I will keep my eyes open.

The guy that owns the local store told me XXL ruined the game, but he didn't say why.  He didn't have it or anything other than the base game in stock, so he had no reason to try to sell me on it I suppose.

Okay -- thanks everyone -- that's all very clear.
I messed those rules up bad.  :P
So much for listening to "friends" playing in the same game.  LOL

Carcassonne lends itself to quite a few house rules, so don't worry about it.   We have all had our share of confusion.

1. I believe that the rules for the mayor being present in a city state that the number of shields in the city determines the number of points awarded per tile in the city. So, if there are 5 shields, then each tile counts 5 points, for example. Is that correct?

The shields are scored the same regardless of the mayor.  The shields count towards the mayor's value in meeple.  So if there is a big city with 3 shields and the green player has 2 meeple in the city and the yellow player has 1 mayor, yellow gets the points because her mayor is worth 3 meeple.  If there is a big city with no shields in it and green has 1 meeple and yellow has 1 mayor, green gets the points because the mayor is worthless without shields.

2. For a city that contains a mayor, how many points are awarded for each shield? Does it remain at 2 points per shield for the completed city, or do the shields get an increased value as well?
The shields are worth 2 for a completed city unless there is a cathedral or something else that changes their value.

3. What is the scoring convention if a city contains both a mayor and a cathedral?
The cathedral increases the value of the city and shield tiles as long as the city is completed.  The mayor doesn't change the point value.

Not even close to true. There are about a dozen single-tile expansions and a half-dozen small expansions but there are only three large expansions plus Aquaretto. Even if they released a big box, I imagine it would only include the two base games and the three large expansions, plus maybe the Familiarisation Area expansion. Probably none of the other promos.

Alright, maybe I am guilty of hyperbole and a half, but that sounds like a lot of stuff.   I'm not sure how long the base game will hold our attention, so hopefully they make a big box or reprint Aquaretto or some of the necessary expansions.

I just noticed that I can download and print some of the expansions.  That is pretty cool, but I need that cardboard feel.
