Question #18: The game has ended and Santa Claus would like to know how many points each player scores. Can you tell him?
Notes:
* We are considering the current rules for non-square tiles (C2/C3). If you use the C1 rules, please indicate so.
* This is an end-game scenario.
Answer #18: In this end-game scenario, we have to score the following features:
* 2 Japanese buildings with a meeple placed as an abbot (or claustral prior).
* 3 uncompleted German castles
* 1 uncompleted monastery
Depending on the rules applied, we will have two cases when dealing with non-square tiles:
* The C1 rules consider each tile individually no matter their shape, so two Halflings in a square count as 2 tiles, and one double-sized tile counts as 1 tile.
* The C2/C3 rules consider occupied spaces when scoring features, so two Haflings in a square count as 1 tile, and one double-sized tile counts as 2 tiles (except in C2 when scoring a long road on a Leipzig tile, which is not the case here)
Let's score each each feature in turn according to each ruleset. Let's start with the current set first.
C2/C3 rulesThe Japanese building occupied by
Red is scored considering the following tiles:
* 1 Japanese building tile
* 1 tile in the top column
* 2 tiles in the bottom column (1 of its square spaces is occupied by 2 triangular tiles that count as 1 tile and 1 half of a German castle tile that counts as 1 tile too)
* 2 tiles in the left row (the German castle counts as 2 tiles, that is, each half counts as 1 tile)
* 3 tiles in the right row (the German castle counts as 2 tiles, and the triangular tile alone in one square space counts as 1 tile)
Red will then score 9 points for this Japanese building ( (1 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 tiles) x 1 point = 9 tiles x 1 point)
The Japanese building occupied by
Yellow is scored considering the following tiles:
* 1 Japanese building tile
* 1 tile in the top column until the square gap (1 half of a German castle tile counts as 1 tile too)
* 0 tiles in the bottom column
* 2 tiles in the left row (the two triangular tiles in one square space count as 1 tile and the triangular tile alone in a square space also counts as 1 tile - triangular gaps do not interrupt a row or column)
* 0 tiles in the right row
Yellow will then score 4 points for this Japanese building ( (1 + 1 + 0 + 2 + 0 tiles) x 1 point = 4 tiles x 1 point)
The German castle occupied by
Blue counts as 2 occupied square spaces and is surrounded by 7 occupied square spaces:
* 4 spaces occupied by regular tiles
* 2 spaces occupied by 1 triangular tile
* 1 space occupied by 2 triangular tiles
Each square space counts as 1 tile, so
Blue will score 9 points ( (2 tiles for the German castle + 7 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 9 x 1 points).
The German castle occupied by
Red counts as 2 occupied square spaces and it is surrounded by 3 occupied square spaces:
* 1 space occupied by one regular tile
* 1 space occupied by 1 triangular tile
* 1 space occupied by 2 triangular tiles
Each square space counts as 1 tile, so
Red will score 5 points ( (2 tiles for the German castle + 3 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 5 x 1 points).
The German castle occupied by
Yellow counts as 2 occupied square spaces and it is surrounded by 3 occupied square spaces:
* 2 space occupied by regular tiles
* 1 space occupied by 2 triangular tiles
Each square space counts as 1 tile, so
Yellow will score 5 points ( (2 tiles for the German castle + 3 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 5 x 1 points).
The monastery occupied by
Blue counts as 1 occupied square space (with 2 triangular tiles) and it is surrounded by 6 occupied square spaces:
* 1 space occupied by one regular tile
* 1 space occupied by 1 triangular tile
* 4 spaces occupied by German castle halves, two of them belonging to the same double-sized tile.
Each square space counts as 1 tile, so
Blue will score 7 points ( (1 tile for the monastery + 6 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 7 x 1 points).
Bottomline:-
Blue will score 16 points (9 points for the German castle + 7 points for the monastery)
-
Red will score 14 points (9 points for the Japanese building + 5 points for the German castle)
-
Yellow will score 9 points (4 points for the Japanese building + 5 points for the German castle)
C1 rulesThe Japanese building occupied by
Red is scored considering the following tiles:
* 1 Japanese building tile
* 1 tile in the top column
* 3 tiles in the bottom column (2 triangular tiles and 1 German castle tile)
* 1 tile in the left row (1 German castle tile)
* 2 tiles in the right row (1 German castle tile, and 1 triangular tile)
Red will then score 8 points for this Japanese building ( (1 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 2 tiles) x 1 point = 8 tiles x 1 point)
The Japanese building occupied by
Yellow is scored considering the following tiles:
* 1 Japanese building tile
* 1 German castle tile
* 0 tiles in the bottom column
* 3 tiles in the left row (3 triangular tiles)
* 0 tiles in the right row
Yellow will then score 5 points for this Japanese building ( (1 + 1 + 0 + 3 + 0 tiles) x 1 point = 5 tiles x 1 point)
The German castle occupied by
Blue counts as 2 tiles for the feature and it is surrounded by 8 tiles:
* 4 regular tiles
* 4 triangular tiles
So
Blue will score 10 points ( (2 tiles for the German castle + 8 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 10 x 1 points).
The German castle occupied by
Red counts as 2 tiles and it is surrounded by 4 tiles:
* 1 regular tile
* 3 triangular tiles
So,
Red will score 6 points ( (2 tiles for the German castle + 4 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 6 x 1 points).
The German castle occupied by
Yellow counts as 2 tils and is surrounded by 4 tiles:
* 2 regular tiles
* 2 triangular tiles
So,
Yellow will score 6 points ( (2 tiles for the German castle + 4 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 6 x 1 points).
The monastery occupied by
Blue counts as 1 tile for the triangular monastery and it is surrounded by 6 tiles (including the triangular tile sharing he square space with the monastery tile):
* 1 regular tile
* 2 triangular tiles
* 3 German castle tiles
So,
Blue will score 7 points ( (1 tile for the monastery + 6 adjacent tiles) x 1 point = 7 x 1 points).
Bottomline:-
Blue will score 17 points (10 points for the German castle + 7 points for the monastery)
-
Red will score 14 points (8 points for the Japanese building + 6 points for the German castle)
-
Yellow will score 11 points (5 points for the Japanese building + 6 points for the German castle)
