Database of tiles
« on: January 29, 2024, 06:14:08 PM »
As mentioned over here, I'm starting to make a video game version of Carcassonne, mainly for fun.

The first challenge I faced, is the definitions of the tiles. I asked around, and spent a lot of time on wikicarpedia.com, but I didn't quite find what I was looking for.

Specifically, there is a notation to identify the tiles, RRRR, for a tile with four road edges, but how can I tell if the four roads are connected in a cross roads, or two roads going N-E and S-W (e.g https://wikicarpedia.com/car/File:Base_Game_C2_Tile_X.jpg vs https://wikicarpedia.com/car/File:Inns_And_Cathedrals_C2_Tile_E.jpg).

JCloisterZone has an embedded XML file that contains many of the definitions, but it's specific to their game, and it is missing the newer C3 sets.  However, it would suit my needs.

So I'm curious, three questions

1) Is there a generic / public database of tile definitions that I've not found?
2) wikicarpedia.com clearly has Expansion to Tile ID mappings. Does anyone know if that dataset is available in a csv/json/xml/whatever format?
3) I've found reference to HiG having their own tile ID system, but I can't find examples of it anywhere. I'd appreciate pointers.

thanks
Andrew

I guess the definition isn't what you're looking for but cundco has a list of all the tiles here:

There's no officially recognised schema for naming tiles.  The list above is produced by a member of the Carcassonne-forum and Cundco publishes it.

Good luck with the project. Please be careful distributing HiG's assets.

What would you consider the best expansion tiles? Specifically the tiles.
