Title: World Series of Board Gaming
Post by: DaFees on October 29, 2021, 11:14:05 AM
I may personally be late to the table on this one but I just learned today of an event taking place in 2022 called the World Series of Board Gaming. It is a multi day event featuring 16 qualifier games where players will compete to be the best at a given game with the 16 ultimate winners going on to compete in a mystery semi finals and mystery finals all to determine who is the ultimate board gamer.

This event is being held in Las Vegas next year with a $250 entry fee per game (yes you could compete in all 16 games if you were so inclined) with room, etc. costing extra. This event is partly sponsored by the Dice Tower. The 16 games are

Carcassonne (obviously)
Catan
Ticket to Ride
Splendor
7 Wonders
Wingspan
Brass: Birmingham
Blood Rage
Acquire
Azul
Ra
Gaia Project
Great Western Trail
Terraforming Mars
Dominant Species: Marine
Dune Imperium

You can get all the details here, https://www.wsbgchampionship.com/ , and registration apparently goes live next month (so this Monday?). That said, do you have what it takes to be the best board gamer in the world?

An interesting range of games there!

I can't imagine too many people wanting to stump up $250 to call themselves the Dominant Species: Marine ...expert?

I'm not sure I understand if that means you qualify to take on the 7 Wonders winner?  And what would you compete at?  Cribbage?

It's like asking a Footballer and a Golfer to play Yahtzee?

I suspect if you've got enough cash and like boardgames, you don't care.

Indeed, it’s a perspective that I am similarly unable to orient myself towards. I can imagine it…but that’s about it
