Title: New Art vs Original Art Dividers
Post by: Clownfeet on July 07, 2016, 07:37:28 AM
Hi,

So some of you guys will have the absolutely amazing boxes made by Basically Wooden. I was asking them to make me a couple of bespoke dividers and also asked if they had any different dividers for the new art versions to distinguish them from the original art.

They don't have anything as yet but i was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for an extra icon on the dividers in front of the normal Carcassonne watermark icons that we could use to identify new art versions?

So far all i can think of is the following, and they might be a bit crap...

'14
2014
2k14
2.0
C 2.0 (with the c from carc icon)
C2
v.2

anyone got any better ideas for this?

Since the new art brings in the gardens as a feature across the base game and the expansions, how about using a flower symbol? Maybe positioned like an asterisk?

So, for example, Inns & Cathedrals in the new art would be:

Very nice JT! Looks great and I love how it doubles as an asterisk and the one new landscape feature.

I approve. So long as HiG continue to use the same watermarks for both CI and CII, then adding an astricks/flower in the CAR makes sense for issues relating only to CII (i.e., Abbot, Gardens, and blue roofs). Obviously using it for other related things is a given.

Who's that? Obelix, caring his menhir? ;)
Seriously, I like the garden/ asterix idea better. Looks cleaner, is easier to apply, and the Garden feature is one to be included in all expansions, while the abbot is only included in base game (and I&C for pink).

A simple "II" would be my choice. (I dont like flowers)

You have to ask: What will your divider for Inns and Cathedrals II look like?

Will it be a Meeple with a Meeple with a flower in the corner?

Perhaps a C with a II or a flower should be better, then you can mark each existing expansion using the same iconography.

Isn't JT Atomico's suggestion above already for Inns & Cathedrals? Only the flower is the CII marker.

I think the correct question is: what main icon would be used for the Carcassonne II base set (with a flower/asterisk in the corner above it)? For that, I think the Carcassonne (LindsayEF) "C" you mentioned is a good idea (with the flower/asterisk above it and to the right, to stay consistent with all the sets).

My original suggestion was for Inns & Cathedrals, not just the base game.

So, for example, Inns & Cathedrals in the new art would be:

I think that makes sense, because the gardens feature on the new art base game and all of the new art expansions (so far at least).

My only problem with the "II" is that the new art is only unofficially called "Carcassonne II" by us. What happens when a brand new expansion comes out in the new art? It wouldn't make sense for that to be called (e.g.) "Cows & Valleys II" if there is no original "Cows & Valleys" expansion in the old art.

As for what the base game symbol should be, I would suggest just using whatever the current base game symbol is for the dividers and adding a flower. That makes it all consistent.

Ultimately it's up to individual personal taste though, right? This isn't official in any way.

*waits hopefully for "Cows & Valleys" to appear soon in Expansions Workshop* :P

Would also be a problem, if at some time for instance crop circles would be adapted to the new edition. (Not unlikely, it had even been added to the Winter Edition.) Or "The River II". On the other hand, are there really people considering collecting both versions and even putting them in the same "BWB"?

I'm down with either using the abbot or a flower for the Carc 2 dividers.  The abbot is more prominently featured on the Carcassonne 2 box than gardens are, but I can understand the argument for the flower too.

I think Z-man uses Carcassonne 2 on the website, at least at one point
