Welcome everyone!
As you know jungleboy has done a fantastic job at exploring the world of completionism in Carcassonne. But don't think the story ends there. O0 We still lots of things to consider; those rarer items, those strange variations, and many other things.
So this week, rather than consider what you need for a complete collection; we're changing perspective and asking you:
What's your favourite.....Scoring Track?
A few weeks ago I was reading an article that took a critical view of scoreboards from many games. Some of them are dreadful, they don't spiral round and don't have every number marked off and some it's hard to tell what direction you're moving in. In the comments section is an interesting review of the Carcassonne Scoreboard. The 49-point score track has possibly the best overall design, it hits all the marks mentioned and has few extra benefits. But the Carcassonne scoretrack has been through several iterations (well 6 to my count).
Here they all are:
Here's a chance to review your collection and decide which you like the most. Please tell us why and if you don't like any of them what you use instead.
It would also be interesting to know what counters you use to record your high scoring games. Do you use dice, counters, poker chips or spinning dials to record those scores, or do you use a custom printed board that goes up to 1000?
If you think I've missed an option (like the Brazilian edition with the publisher's logo in the bottom corner) it's time to share it with us!
For those interested the article I was refering to can be found here, it's worth a good look:

I've cast my vote. I like the Grey-Stone scoretrack the best. The numbers are easy to read although it is missing every number like the field so it's not perfect.
I've not used it very much, but I think the Carcassonne II scoretrack may be the best yet (if you can see past the blue towers) the numbers are clear.
-
Merit to you for another series to look forward to!
I have the 5th one, with the crown, but for some reason I really like the stone one (2nd picture). I find the grey colours really appealing
The 2.0. version isn't that bad either!
-
Actually still it is missing one of the original cundco ones to the list.
It is certainly my favorite.

Good spot Quevy - I've added the Magnetic Scoring Track to the poll.
-
I played with the 70-point score track once. The weird thing was that at the end of the game, Dan's meeple was further along the score track than my meeple, even though I desired to have my meeple further along the track than his. So in conclusion, I didn't like the 70-point score track.
:)
-
I think you might have had that problem any of the scoring tracks here! :p
From my perspective, you were both behind me, I didnt see any 70point markers :p
-
As of few weeks ago we started using an Excel sheet printout where we type in scoring and what type (city, road etc) that scored. Great for statistics.
Minor drawback is not knowing current score until after the game. But one could simply use both this method and a scoring track I suppose.
-
I would have the excel spreadsheet with totals on the laptop and add the points as you go so that the scores are available. Then you would know how many points you are behind me!

Indeed, and this is what the Excel sheet does. It's just easier to use pen and paper during play. No doubt we will be reverting back to the good ol' scoreboard from the base game soon enough after these megaCarc games we've been running lately. x_x

Tally counters - they're the future

I always play with the Wheel of fortune edition, but i think the stone edition looks really good to!

I was quite happy with things the way they were :P. Although, this wasn't an official score track as it had been printed and stuck on the back of a cereal box. Maybe this was why it didn't work out so well for you?
I voted for the 3rd option for two reasons. 1) I've used it far more than any of the others, 2) I have one that is signed to me by KJW! ;D

The magnetic scoreboard is my favourite, since everyone can see the points easily and it doesn't come under threat of being jolted! I use this version for Mega Carcassonne games, but instead of the magnets that come with it I have glued some small magnets to the back of some meeples (including the second score figure from The Messages, and The Robbers).
Also when playing with King & Robber Baron, I use the meeple shaped scoreboard (10th Anniversary edition) to track the longest road and largest city, as well as the number of completed cities and roads. I may start to use the 70-point board for this instead now that I have it!
When playing a smaller game, I normally use the Wheel of Fortune scoreboard. I just like the little crown symbol.
All that said, I am extremely happy about owning the 70-point scoreboard (first edition). Hunting this down was a real quest and finally finding one gave me a great sense of achievement!
(I'll edit in a couple of photos to this post when I am back home.)

What would be a recommended scoring track when using The Bandits and / or The Messenger mini expansions? Haven't thought much about it as we don't use these features save the tiles themselves as regular tiles.
-
This poll has only been running a couple of hours and it's yielded some interesting results. The yellow-field scoring track has taken a significant lead already, with twice the number of votes. I suspect this is because it is the most common and people are familiar with it. Technically I think listing all the numbers is very important too!
I was surprised to find the magnetic scoring track doing so well too, but as JT said: it's bump proof!
It's interesting to see the Wheeol of Fortune doing so well too.
These three designs are all very similar so the lead is strong, but there's still time for that to change!
No one has voted for a first edition or 10year special edition yet either. The meeple shaped scoring track does have one advantage: it doesn't snake, so it's easy to know which direction you're ment to be going in!
It's great hearing about other people's non-official scoring mechanisms too, I'm not sure I'll be using a talley marker next time I complete a 34point city though!

Truly one of my next projects is just that, I want to do some magnets in the shape of the bandit and messenger and the meeple lodestone wood, but for now I am very busy with falconer.
One more quick solution would be to glue the magnets (http://www.magneticshop.it/magneti-permanenti-neodimio/magneti-neodimio-dischi/disco-magnetico-d-5x15.html) behind the wooden figures.

I admire anyone able to do this. I got hundreds of meeples but could never glue or alter anything from the original content. :)
-
I never talked about doing this on the originals, they would be too thick compared to others. I would will clip some wooden figures laser.
-
Everything's better with lasers :(y) :(y)
Good luck with your project Quevy!
-
I am surprised that no - one has mentioned the fact which bothers me about the score board which is that it cannot be incorporated into the map! Why is it such a random size? Why has it not been redesigned so that the size of the board corresponds to the tile size and with cities and roads on the sides? That would get my vote!
-
Great Comment Rosco, There are a few non-official scoring tracks that allow you to do this. I went through several iterations, but wasn't happy with the result. The problem, I was finding is that large starting tile, kills the start-game; especially in 2-players, in the same way Wheel of Fortune and The City of Carcassonne does.
I think a small 2x3 might work well, but it's hard to fit a score track up to 49; so you'll have to change the mechanism: eg use circles, spirals or dice.
-
I think we have not forgotten another important original element.
Bag Travel Edition can be used as markers, same thing for the bag containing the Russian special tiles.

Updated as a single vote. I doubt there will be enough votes to distinguish between the Travel Edition (which has mini tiles) and the Russian Version.
-
I've voted the field option because of how it came with my BB and it's just really nice and simple!
In terms of scoring, my wife and I use the wooden score tokens from Basically Wooden. They are very nice and can fit the shape of a meeple on!

FAVOURITISM POLLS! How exciting.
I use the field edition scoring track. I only own this and the Wheel of Fortune version, but I'm not a huge fan of the crown mark. I like the look of the grey stone version, and I wouldn't mind getting hold of it. But the lack of numbers isn't ideal. The Carcassonne II version looks very good, nice and clear.
My favourite is the Winter Edition scoreboard. I love the colours and artwork on the this version. However, I wouldn't use it with the regular game, only the winter version, so I don't get to use it that often.
For scoring, I just use scoring tiles and the regular board. I have enough score tiles that this works. If I ran out... well, I suppose I'd improvise!

Good to have you aboard Christopher!
I guess the Carcassonne 2.0 scoring track may be another good reason to fight your internal demons and purchase a copy of the base game!

Looks like someone has voted for another official, but unlisted scoring track without sharing which one it was?!
I've added the magnetic and portable tracks to the poll.
I thought, I'd add some honourable mentions to the 'unofficial' listings.
First up is a 100 point score track, I found on google images - I'm not precisely sure who to thank for this.
Second up is Quevy's infamous 999 point score track. :(y) :(y) :(y)
-
That 999 one is GENIOUS.
-
What about the one used by Jere and MrNumbers in this game (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1932.msg29546#msg29546)? :(y)

Thats the one 1 use, love that one
-
I was looking for that but couldn't remember where I'd seen it. I think there is a 200 point version that's similar!
We've had some great ideas, Are there any other good suggestions?
-
It looks like now, every option has had a vote, except for the Travel Bags!
The Field Edition is taking the lead now with 37.5% of the vote. Wheel of Fortune is far behind but in second place with 15.6% and The magnetic score track is on 12.5%. All of these designs are essentially the same so that's taking: 65.6% of the vote!
Only 32 votes have been cast so far - how will it change before the poll ends at the end of the week - can the magnificent Stone Scoring track make a come back!
-
The thing I wonder is: did people vote for their Favourite or the one they're actually using? That doesn't necessarily mean the same thing. I voted for the stone one while I don't play with it (heck, I don't even own it.)

Same here. I like the stone one the most but I dont own it

That was me! Winter Edition Scoreboard! :D

I'll let you off on a technicality, although as a heads up - we may be considering Spin-Offs in the future Polls.

Hello,
Here is my home made scoring track with a file found on BGG

The Results are in: 33% of you think we should crown the Yellow/Field Score Track the community's favourite. Thus the Wheel of Fortune Score track is the winner (it already has a crown on it).
Thanks for voting everyone, in the last few days those outliers tried their best, but no one plays with the travel bags :(
As ever, the poll will stay open for late comers, feel free to vote and comment - but we've moved on to next week's topic:
What are your favourite Basegame Rules? (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2544.0) - Here I give a brief history of the scoring mechanics Carcassonne has had in the past, and compare the Farming Rule Editions...hopefully correctly!
-
I forgot to say: Fredric, thanks for including your photos - that looks like a serious board - upto 200!
-
Too late to add this to the Favouritism Poll, but this is for any completionists wondering why else they need Big Box 6:
It contains a variant of the Scoretrack, it includes a laurel wreath at the starting square:

With an extra rule?

no, no additional rules ;)

The winner of a game gets to chop down their neighbour's laurel bush in the hope they can make a wreath before the next game starts! C:-)

The meeple shaped board looks so cool :violet-meeple:
