I think it's time to announce last call for substitute player for World Cup's group D. For the sake of the progress of the tournament we could close the gate at the end of this weekend. Danisthirty?

I agree. No point waiting forever, and none of the people I've contacted personally have responded. Group D will officially be a 5-person group from the start of next week if nobody else (who hasn't already played in another group) volunteers to jump in...

Just a quick message to point out that I’ve asked MrNumbers to plan the next few stages of the competition in terms of which expansions will be used in the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final. Because he won’t be taking part in the knock-out stage of the competition and I will, I have asked him to do this as I didn’t want to give myself an unfair advantage over my fellow quarter-finalists (or to provide anyone with an excuse for accusing me of such!)

Please join me in thanking MrNumbers for helping out in this way. He assures me he will post details of the expansions that will be used in due course, so please stay tuned!

Seriously, Grab and I really need to know before Friday evening which expansions will be played for the knock-out stage because we are going to pack our suitcases and leave early saturday morning for 3 weeks. We'll bring the real game with us to play our match. We could also play our game before leaving if we know soon enough... so that we don't need to bring everything! Many thanks!

• We could play on the same laptop in "pass-and-pass" mode... but that's a bit lame...
• MrNumbers could choose expansions available on iOS (iPhone/iPad)

Since one purpose of the Elo rating is to serve as a predictor of the outcome of a match, let's see how well it has performed in the World Cup so far:

This shows how many games have been won by the player with the highest Elo out of the total number of matches for each group:

Group A: 9/15 (60%)
Group B: 13/15 (87%)
Group C: 8/15 (53%)
Group D: 8/10 (80%)

Total: 38/55 (69%)

Can we say that groups with low pourcentage were "tougher"...? hum, seems so, but this is open to discussion. Anyway, first time I compile these stats and the results are quite interesting.

I don't think khalid lost any games in our group. The reason for his 80% score is probably just that we all played one game less than everyone else on account of having an unreplaced drop out.
