I suppose, it's @MMike 's "Spiel '1" (stone age style with Volcano) fan made tile signed by KJW
Oh, yes. I do remember seeing them a while back. Thanks for  enlightening me.  ;D

It is a fan made tile, almost more as a wink or even a joke. Made by @MMike !
What tile is everyone talking about? Been reading the conversation the last few days and feeling a bit confused.  ;D

Wheel of Fortune could be seen as both, like Mists over Carcassonne.
Winter edition, if it's not a spin off, how would you classify it?
Wheel of Fortune is a bit of a weird one. But personally only have it in BB5 which definitely makes it feel more expansion like. I do however agree while Winter is basically a reskin I personally keep it on my spin off shelf.

Have been wondering though, is there any news on future spin offs? Hasn't been anything for 6 years now (not counting mists as a spin off here either). Spin offs seemed to come out every two years or so then they just stopped. Does feel like in the retail sector Carcassonne has really slowed down. Not much new outside of Cundco.

I wasn't necessarily directing my response to you Chris6507, I hope it didn't feel that way.
You're all good. I'm fine, all just good discussion. And no, Wonders of humanity isn't bad enough that i wouldn't get it as i already have it. And while I'm a C1 guy all the way I am fine with the C2 and C3 artwork, the whole point of my original question was just to gauge how people felt about C3.

I felt it was a downgrade and that C2 was much cleaner and nicer looking and was trying to understand why the change? It hasn't changed enough to make it new and fresh, just enough in my opinion to look more cluttered and messy. And i was wondering if there was something said or different opinions that might help me see things differently. I've had movies like Batman Begins go from a movie that i hated to one i really like from listening to other opinions and explanations and wondered if this could be a similiar thing. Doesn't seem to be the case though.

Definitely C3 isn't bad enough that i wouldn't buy it, but i still look at it and question why the designers saw it as necessary. Would have no issues with more or different buildings. Just the buildings being cut off i find visually problematic. Probably a sore point as i only have C3 Winter edition and it makes my gingerbread tiles not fit in very well aesthetically.

Thanks for both your input. I've gone nuts in December buying all the spin offs. Got everything including new Hunters and Gatherers. Only ones i have left to track down are Original H&G and The Castle. Also want to find the Sherriff expansion for Gold Rush (love Gold Rush by the way). Wouldn't mind getting 2012 Winter edition, but given up on in after buying two clone copies!  >:( Only Spin-off I'm not looking for is Star Wars because it's super expensive and i don't love tge look of it.

You say though if you don't like it, don't purchase it? It's not all that simple as you might really like the expansion mechanics even though you don't like the art. So it's not just as simple as just not buying an action figure you don't like.
I suppose also while you may not have seen buildings hundreds of feet apart, I've also never been in a city with building who's roof merges into the wall of their neighbour or a city that gets split up into perfect squares. So personally i find a little distance between buildings slightly more realistic and aesthetically pleasing than Picasso's city.
And just for clarification I've personally ever criticised "the artwork", merely the decision to clip buildings at the edges.
Also can i just say that artwork on tiles like Wonders of Humanity and  are absolutely beautiful artwork. They're just ruined by the clipped cities.  :-\

Thank you both for your investigation. It was very helpful to know that the numbers matching wasn't defining of being a fake. I'm trusting the person i'm buying it from that it's genuine and from a reputable games store in Melbourne. So now i'm just going to wait with baited breathe again hoping i'm not stung a second time.  ;D

I'm dredging this back up as i'm looking at another copy of this game on Facebook Marketplace. Just wondering if anyone has a moment, could you take a look at the third photo I originally posted and look at the number next to the barcode that ends in 14Q2. Does anyone know by either looking at their own box or just from personal experience if that number would be identical or different on every genuine printing (Barcode is identical too)?

Every single detail on the back of the box of the fake copy I bought are identical to the photo the person just sent me of the one i'm enquiring about. Feels like a bit or a red flag to me, but maybe everything is identical on the back and i'm just reading into it.

Any help would be appreciated prior to making my final decision. Really appreciate it.

Here's the new pictures for reference. The tiny picture is of the original listing where it looks like there a lot of excess plastic on the packaging. Plus the back of the new one i'm looking at.

Been tracking down some of the older spin-offs throughout December (Not always the easiest thing here in Australia) and managed to track down all of these for original retail price or less which isn't too bad considering how far out of print they are. Plus my little Cundco order. December has been fruitful. Just a shame I missed out on the Gold Mines Sherriff by a mere couple of hours! :-(
Now just trying to decide whether it's worth paying $85 for a brand new copy of New World/Mayflower?

Sorry everyone, didn't realise this edition of the river was such a controvertial topic.  ;D I appreciate those of you who shared your opinions about the grey backs, sounds like there's no real rhyme or reason to it. Just a shame the back don't match my river 2.

Anyways hope every continues to enjoy the back and  forth as to whether it's BB5 River or River 3!  >:D

General / Spin-off Rankings?
« on: December 10, 2023, 01:54:25 AM »
Hey all, found plenty of websites ranking carcassonne's expansions, but not seeing much in the way of rankings for the spin off games. If anyone would like to share their ranking of the spin off games from best to worst or know any reviews that have done so already. Would love to have you share!
Just ordered Safari and Gold Rush from a store I've never heard of cheap, but worth the risk. Worst case scenario I'll getmy money back tgrough paypal. :-D

General / What's up with the River in Big Box 5?
« on: December 04, 2023, 01:42:32 AM »
So, years after purchasing the big box 5, i've finally got the thing out and introduced it to my 6 year old who is obsessed with Carcassone (Also finally played with the sieges mini expansion that I bought 18 years ago). One thing I got very confused about and was something I was excited about in big box 5 was the updated River expansion (with the river icon(. So I plonked it on the table with a copy of the River 2 expansion I had and started shuffling only to notice the back were the normal grey back not the darker black looking one.

Made it very obvious which tiles were the River 1 and which were the River 2. So we ended up digging out my old copy of River 1 instead.

Basically my whole speal here is to ask if anyone knows the reason for this change? Wikicardpedia just says it's Grey, with no real reason and I'm just confused as to why this was the only time it was ever done. And secondly even though i'm pretty sure I know the answer, there's no copy of the river 2 with the Light Grey background to match is there? I was so excited to get a watermarked version of the river with the sheep update, but now feel like i'm probably going to rarely ever use it as I like the branching river with River 2.

So weird!  ;D

Mine hasn't even left Germany yet and it was posted about 12 hours after the sale started. Lol.

Ha ha ha! This sounds like an echo of the ranting about C2 when it came out...
I'll have to try and track that down and see how that went!  ;D I don't have a problem with any of the "Art" in any of the versions. I have a soft spot for C1, but that's my original and always will be. The art on C2 and C3 are completely fine, but just feel unnecessary as C1 was perfectly fit for purpose.
Glad to see i'm not the only bothered by the clipped buildings. Just feels like an unnecessary update that has all cons and no pros on its side. I'm sure there's someone patting themself on the back for this update, but i'd be very interested to know what was going on in some peoples heads?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts though. :-)

General / C3 Artwork Discussion.
« on: November 26, 2023, 08:30:49 PM »
Hey all,
I'm sure this has been discussed in the past and I have searched prior to creating a thread (unsuccessfull). I know it's been a couple of years now, but I keep wondering why? When it comes to the C3 artwork. The old style whether C1 or C2 with the building in the centre worked perfect and I just don't understand who thought it would be a good idea to fill up these cities so much that they're all cut off and looking dumb where they're joined.
Have the artists ever or developers ever answered this question as to why? Is there a general consensus as to whether this is an appreciated change in the community or universally hated? Just feels like such a downgrade to me of something that was perfect and just hoping to hear some other thoughts on it if people are inclined to share?
