Special thanks to Robert & Monica, Yi and Dan for their very quick replies to my messages. I was trying to finish all my games before going on holidays. Mission accomplished!

This league was again tons of fun, really enjoyed it! I had very little experience with Abbey & Mayor before it started and I have learnt a lot! Thanks again for making this happen and see you in the next league (or World Cup!). :)

D4 Paul 120 vs Dan 201.

Crazy game with a compact farm dominating the board. The last few tiles there were 2 straight roads and another tile and I (Paul) just needed ONE of them to share our barns and Dan got both of them. Intense moments!

Congratulations on your D3 win Jéré! :(y) Thanks for taking part!  :)

I hope you have a lovely and relaxing holiday!

Paul vs Dan.

Crazy game with a compact farm dominating the board. The last few tiles there were 2 straight roads and another tile and I (Paul) just needed ONE of them to share our barns and Dan got both of them. Intense moments!

This was indeed a crazy game! I was in the unusual position of being the first to get my barn down and then attempting to defend it as Paul tried to get his barn onto the same farm. I must admit, that despite being very pleased with myself for foiling a couple of good attempts to place his barn, I was blissfully unaware of just how close he came in the end. When I saw that he managed to get to within one frfr tile of joining it I thought to myself "Phew! That was close!" Little did I know that of the 4 tiles left, 2 of them were frfr tiles and I drew both of them!

Overall it was a great game and if truth be told I did feel like Paul outplayed me purely for the number of chances he made for himself to get his barn down and get it onto my barn farm. Thanks for the great game!  :) :(y)

group D5 : kettlefish 188 - Decar 149

the first game in group D5 - and I have won the game - I have placed my barn early in the game.
We don't placed the Abbey - only one time there were the possibility to place it, but I got a right tile and placed it in that hole.

Thanks for the nice game Decar.

D2 Quevy vs Leven 161:198

By placing his barn early in the game onto a promising farm quevy seemed to be in good position, but then came the turning point of the game when I could gain majority in a huge city where we both deployed our mayors and then with some lucky draws I could even close it except for a CCCC hole in the middle which divided the city into more parts. There was only one CCCC tile left: the one with two pennants. It could have made the city even more valuable (+8 pt), so to avoid this threat quevy decided to put his abbey tile in the hole, but nevertheless I still gained 44 pts from the completed cities so it proved to be the decisive factor in this game.

Dan asked for the video recording, and others may also be interested, so I published it here (http://youtu.be/cc35ULGBApo).

Well, it was a late one but at least we got to play!

CL played well and certainly made the most of the tiles he drew. This included almost all of the cloisters in the early stages of the game but I never seemed to be able to do anything to block him, and struggled to keep our scores level despite winning the 16-point city in the middle of the screen outright and a few others besides.

CL was the first to place his barn on what looked like a very promising farm. I managed to get mine down adjacent to it but he stopped me from joining on to his so I concentrated on developing my own and both barn farms ended up being worth the same.

It felt like a close game throughout, but I did get particularly frustrated at one point when CL had two turns in a row where he drew the exact (uncommon) tile he needed to get out of whatever I was trying to set up. The first of these tiles meant that he won the incomplete city to the west outright for 11 points, and the second meant that he maintained an equal share of the large city in the south-east (worth 38 points). At that point I just felt like there was nothing I could do.  >:(

I was very surprised by the final scores as it felt like I'd lost by a much larger margin. Still, if you have to lose you might as well do it by 1 point so I can't be too disappointed.  :'(

Well played ChooseLife!  :(y)

Thanks Dan and what a game it was to play.  I was indeed very lucky on the tile draw as I turned my back on the big city, in order not to lose focus and wood, but the tiles that came around were perfect to level it.
With such a close score it really could have gone bot ways.

Thanks for waiting and have a nice holidays.

Definitely. Even if just the last two tiles had been the other way around the end result could have been different!  :-\

Anyway...

Just a quick note to let you know that I’m going to be away for a bit and so won’t be able to host any JCloisterZone games. Hopefully MrNumbers, Decar or rfielder will be happy to help out in this respect in my absence, but if you’re really stuck, the online server does appear to be working again now and can be connected to as long as you’re using JCZ version 3.2. In my experience this version doesn’t appear to be as stable as version 3.1.1 but as long as either player saves the game in the event of any technical difficulties then you should still be able to recover it.

Enjoy!  :) :(y)

Paul (159) vs Chooselife (156)

Intense game. I managed to get my barn out on my second turn! The very last tile was the real setter for the game. Had Chooselife gotten it, he would've won by completing the city bottomleft. Instead I got it and placed it on my own little city top north.

After that, we placed our Abbey tile and the game was finished.

And....
D7 is the second group to finish. We have played all our games too. All one of them  ;D

Andrew the Ambo 211 : B1nder 119

I had a bit of luck early on, drawing cities while B1nder tended to get roads. Did a stupid mistake and let B1nder trap my first farmer meeple. I could have placed a ccff to free him, but placed it elsewhere. I was also lucky to get my barn down in the best spot first.

I have enjoyed this league. First time I have played A&M. Bring on the next league.

I have had much luck, I managed to win the big city, entering the mayor after Mrnumbers had cut off by inserting somewhere else and blocking his attempt to block. I created a hole in the tile easy to receive and MrNumber no longer had the abbey. I received it.
With the latest tile I scored 62 points, connecting my barn at the large field of MrNumbers, I closed a city of 4 points and positioned the follower on the road by 6 points.

Ok I will just get on with it and post the scores:

The game was an interesting one for me as i knew i had an uphill battle to win against the unbeaten might of JMA.  Not only that but to win the league i would have to win by a huge margin too.  All through the game JMA was having problems with the server and it kept disconnecting him so although i dont think the luck of the tiles was particularly skewed my way (maybe a little) he was disadvantaged because of that.  I developed an early lead and kept trying to add small scores and not get anything tied up for too long.  we both had our mayors on different citys which werent doing much and were pretty much uncloseable from very early on so they didnt play a part in the game. JMA got his barn down in the spot i was developing for mine and then i managed to build a secondary farm for my barn which became bigger then the initial one.

It was getting more and more tense for me as i got to about a 60 point lead at one point and i thought its in the bag but then JMA closed the gap to about 30 points.  My 28 point negative points difference was constantly on my mind and I knew what i needed to do.

In the end I won the game and JMA fought well.  If my calculations are correct, i didnt quite do enough to win the league but it was very very very close!
Thank you JMA for a great game and thankyou Dan for another great league. Next Time!!

Commiserations to jma03 who seemed favourite before the last game but Rosco made a great fight there to keep his chances alive.
But in the end we have a Latvian winner again, for the second time this year. I think it's time to listen to the Latvian National Anthem (https://youtu.be/oxjdcvraOSM).  ;)

By the way, zone2 finished all three expansion leagues in the top 4. That's quite an achievement as well.

good now that I missed the bitter taste of the game with ross, I would make my rating of this league:
first to thank Dan and kettle for league A & M.
my last game left a bitter taste since I sent the 3.
I made a bad approach, thinking more in punctuation, which in my game play (where half of the game could see that could have closed a big city, error on my part).
on the other hand I had problems with the connection and each time put a tile had to leave and come back each time.
that ultimately are excuses because the truth is that Ross made a solid and brilliant game and was very fair winner.
the league has exceeded my expectations (7 wins and one loss) more than I imagined before starting.
so I happy about that.

Yo all.  8)

So, as far as I'm aware there has been one D5 game played and no D6 games?

If this is the case, the following matches are outstanding:

D5: Carcking vs. Decar
D5: Carcking vs. kettlefish  :(y)

D6: aenima vs. Hounk  :(y)
D6: aenima vs. rfielder  :(y)
D6: Hounk vs. rfielder  :(y)

Unless I've missed something?

Carcking and I have finished our game in group D5.
Carcking 172 - kettlefish 163

Carcking has stolen 2 of my cities...
And he put many of his followers into my barn farm to connect,
this is the reason why he got so many farm points.
I had no chance to get my cities back - Carcking got always the tiles to block
my followers.

Thanks for the game play.

So with one game left to go, the total number of points scored in all of CarcC's online tournaments so far (not including the ladder) stands at 99,831. So, unless the final game of the Abbey & Mayor league is especially low scoring it seems as though either Carcking or Decar will have the honour of scoring the 100,000th point! Best of luck to both players!  :(y)

Decar and I just finished our game. Unfortunately, it was rather lopsided and I couldn't help drawing exactly the tiles I needed. I got my Barn in early and was able to defend. I know this was somewhat of a rare game for me and I trust also for Decar.

That's it then. Another expansion league bites the dust! Thanks everyone for taking part; I hope you all had a good time, I know I did. Stay tuned for news of prizes/ souvenirs to come in the near future. And hopefully an update on our ELO scores Jere?

Since we're coming into holiday season now, there are no official tournaments planned before September but we're going to be returning in style with the next World Cup of Carcassonne Central so there will be everything to play for!

My first expansion league was a real school with a lot of important lessons learned.
The most important were without doubt that in the end every point count so keep scoring till the very last tile and that we should not wait to close/block whatever feature we need or play a special (outside) tile like the Abbey.

Many thanks to Dan and Kettle for keeping the things running and to all the guys that went the extra mile to host for the rest of us.  :(y) :(y)

Thanks, Dan!
It seems my last league game vs MrNumbers was the decisive concerning ELO leadership. I assume that may have been the highest rated league game (= with the highest combined ELO rating) so far in the history of CarcC tournaments. Maybe Jéré could confirm whether that's true or not.
By the way, did you know that even international football teams have ELO ratings (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Football_Elo_Ratings)?  :) (And the highest rated match was the World Cup final last year.)

It was actually the 3rd.

Though you also won the highest rated league game ever! That was in April also against MrNumbers. That explains (partly) why you now occupy the pole position.

I can’t decide whether to be less surprised by the fact that MrNumbers appears in all five of these games, or that I lost to him in both of the games I feature in.  ;)

Thanks for the list in any case Jéré, it’s very interesting.  :(y)
