Title: Brettspiel Advent Calendar
Post by: Whaleyland on July 30, 2015, 08:56:07 PM
News has reached me via http://www.spielen.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=346402&start=10 (http://www.spielen.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=346402&start=10) that this year Brettspiel is releasing an advent calendar through Spielbox Magazine. It will include 24 (or 25?) separate small expansions for many games, including Carcassonne! Whether this will be a new expansion or a reprint of an old one is not currently known, but regardless this may be a fun Christmas indeed.

The full press release, in German, is this:
Quote

This may be the single-largest collaboration between the major European games companies to date. Who's excited for this!?

Totally replying to my own post, but I'm excited to get the Carcassonne, Catan, Castles of Burgundy, and Zooloretto expansions. I took the first and last of those games with me to New Zealand, and I've been keeping up with all the expansions for the four of them for years, so that alone makes this an exciting set. I really hope, though, that they are going to made available separately as well since I don't own the other 20 games listed. Fortunately, all my games are language-independent usually, unlike many of the others.

the Advent calendar with mini-expansions of different board games:

For a playing group (where they almost have all of the games) is this a great idea.
I have my Carcassonne collection - that means this is nothing for me.

They produce only 3000 pieces of this advent calendar - made by "
Frosted Games (http://frostedgames.de/)".
The publisher Frosted Games runs by Matthias Nagy (darkpact). He has an own blog and is a part of the  podcast (
http://bretterwisser.de/ (http://bretterwisser.de/)). He is well known in the boardgame scene.

Here is a
youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X6W2Q8gBbo) an interview with Matthias Nagy from Sebastian Wenzel (www.spielama.de (http://www.spielama.de))

only 1 game i have in my collection and its carcassonne..

Hopefully the expansion will be available to all, because 50 euro is a bit to much for me.. even if i could sell all the separate parts..

I'm more interessted in how many tiles. It says expansion and I would hope this means more than just 1-3 tiles.

Follow the Frosted Games link kettlefish put up and some of your questions will be answered. Also check out the Discussion Forum on BGG for the calendar—the designer has responded to some concerns. 22 of the 24 expansions will be unique, but some may be available from the publishers at at a later point in time. They will all be small, promo-sized expansions composed of cards or tiles (no mats, figures, or dice apparently).

I did visit BGG.com and followed Twitter etc. Not much info there atm and the rest was in foreign language(s).  :@

The big question we should ask is (for those solemny interested in Carcassonne only): Which will be cheaper? To buy the entire calendar or just the loose tiles from auctions/sales.

So from what i see is that there are 22 unique expansions and 1 wasnt available in germany before..
23 of the exansions are language independent. so that wont be a problem.

He said that for 2 expansions he wasnt able to create new promos.. so my guess is that the new carcassonne expansion is language independent and unique.

considering its a fairly big package my guess is that we can see 1-8 tiles. but not more..

Carcassonne 1 or 2?.. my biggest question for now.

22 of these 24 expansions are completely new and never been distributed before. And they will not be available outside this product before Essen 2016, if at all.

And I say always - please wait...  >:D
You know it  - there is a CundCo-Shop...

I bet if it was more catapult tiles you guys would fine with it ok as long as it's not v2.0!  ;D

I would buy it but there is always the chance it could be The Gingerbread Man. I play loads of games so it'll most likely have some stuff for me.

Maybe Santa Claus tokens to fire at your cities with the catapult to deliver presents to your meeples would be fun!

I don't have the winter edition of Carcassonne, but I am curious about the Catan expansion (If you zoom into the Catan guy on the box, he seems to be holding a hex with a snow-covered house...)

The Carcassonne promo is 6 tiles. I asked this on Facebook and got that answer.

I did order the Adventcalendar with Essen Pick-up. I am interested in 7 of the 24 promos and figure I could sell the rest of them.

I just hope that none of the promos I'm interested in are one of the already released ones or the one in German. Ah well.

For those interested: I'm after the Catan, Carcassonne, Splendor, Abyss, Burgundy, El Gaucho and Power Grid promo.

Crop Circles.

For everyone's information, on the tapatalk app the small text was not small and was at normal size. So maybe another way to hide spoilers is needed.

The real spoiler is here:

When quevy mentioned it, I thought it sounded like a strange visual combination that would not work very well ... and so it is. Off the top of my head, this is the only mini-expansion that requires that the ground be grass and not snow - i.e. it's the expansion that is least suited to the winter edition yet somehow was the first one chosen. Sometimes decisions like this just boggle the mind.

Mechanically it's quite a good expansion (assuming the rules have not changed).  It's hard to find, so it makes some sense to have it available in one form.  Thematically it works well: the snow has been cleared to show the grass underneath.  I think this is a welcome mini-expansion.

Will this be available for the common folks? I checked their website it was all sold out but from what I could read these will be available in (certain) stores as well.

Then I guess we'll agree to disagree.  :green-meeple:

The one I would have loved to see is Besiegers. A besieging army failing to cause the city to surrender before winter sets in and being stuck outside the walls with its camps and siege engines under snow could have been amazing in terms of artwork. And if the siege tiles helped offset some of the power of the Gingerbread Man, even better.

Another one I'd like to see is the Ferries adapted for winter. So the transport would be ice transport to travel over frozen lakes. This would be good for both artwork and gameplay, as the Ferries was a very well-received mini-expansion. Equally, a winter edition River with a frozen river would have been a good opportunity for nice artwork.

I honestly think I put more thought into this in the last 10 minutes than anyone else did before choosing the Crop Circles.

I'm hoping it comes to cundco... it would be ironic if both versions became impossible to obtain (I still don't have the original)

So the Crop Circles Winter-Edition are different than Crop Circles I and II Standard Edition.

Since the tiles are a different configuration than Corn Circles I & II and only available for the winter edition, I decied to make a simple base game equivalent of the tiles. I call them the Snow Circles:

If any one wants to make them themselves, I have attached the PDF I used with the snowy shapes. Five of the tiles are spares from the base game and the last one (with cloister) is a spare from Inns & Cathedrals. After cutting out and sticking on the shapes I outlined them with pen. Nothing too elaborate, but I'm pleased with how they came out!

I was able to order the Winter Edition crop circles on the BGG marketplace today.

Even though I don't think this was a great choice of mini-expansion for the Winter Edition (as I wrote earlier in this thread (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1983.msg29549#msg29549)), and there's no actual crops/corn in these crop circles (nor 'circles', for that matter!), I still think it will be cool to have an additional expansion for the Winter Edition. A game with the crop circles and gingerbread man plus the extra 12 tiles with house-rules for the animal tiles sounds like a nice game indeed.

Any update on when CundCo will (hopefully) have the Winter Edition Crop Circles expansion in stock? I know I haven't gotten my late October order from them yet but I don't want to miss out on this expansion. It may not add much to the game, but an expansion's an expansion and I must have it.
