Title: German Castles and The Tower interaction
Post by: Thrawn on May 16, 2017, 10:48:46 PM
Hello,

we played one game with the tower and other expansions including the german castles. This was our first game with the tower expansion.
I have a question to which I could not find answer in the CAR.

When I have 2 meeples on my german castle (1 in the middle and 1 on a road or city piece) and someone put a tower tile next to the german castle and also place a tower pice to the foundation who gets to choose which of my meeple will be captured? The capturer or me? Obviusly my opponent captured the meepe in the middle of the german castle to make the most "damage" to me but I'd rather have given my meeple on the road or city and would have placed in my next turn a meeple to the tower piece to defend my castle.
Anyaway my opponent choosen and there was no way for me to get back into my castle as we did not include this time neither the flier nor the dragon expansion (magic portal).

Thanks in advance to help me clarify this.

Hello  :)
I'm sorry but the player who put the tile  and the tower on it is the one who chose

I don't know the official ruling (as it wasn't officially clarified yet), but from my point of view meeple in German castle is safe from the Tower, as it is in the castle from BC&B.
What is officially known (aenima already said that), that the player who placed the tile with tower foundation has the right to chose the meeple to capture.

Thanks for the answers.
I would also think that it would make sense if the german castle would protect the meeples in it (or at lest the meeple in the middle) from capturing as given its big size it is very easy to capture that meeple and it takes longer time to finish the castle so basically the main feature of the german castle could not be used in case the tower expansion is also in play.

Maybe this can be a question to HiG when kettlefish will have the chance to ask them next time?

Mmmh no, Sorry again. If I remember well, only the Castle from BC&B protects against the dragon and the towers, not the german one.

The official rule is that the castle - sitting on the edge of two tiles - is immune from dragon and towers. I think that's because the castle doesn't belong to any of the two tiles, not because it's called a castle.
Nevertheless, it'll be awkward if some castles protect people from dragon and towers and some don't, especially when the huge ones don't.
The two-tile-sized German castles have caused so many issues and questions... :(

German Castles do not protect the inhabitants from Dragons because it is only 1-tile.  I would expect the same level of security against Towers.

No, there are not  2 tiles, there is not an edge... it is only 1 tile and when  the Dragon moves on it He eats all He can

I mean the castles in BBC. They sit on the edge.
