In case you ever bought from Boardgamegeek, please be aware that their marketplace is completely closing on September 1st. It seems all history will be deleted as well.

Agricola was my gateway game. Carcassonne became my game of choice.

Thank you for sharing.  I thought with the activity on the Beta site in the US earlier this year, the market was going to persist.  It has been a major source for me to find both Catan and Carcassonne items at much more reasonable prices than eBay, and the price history feature was an excellent reference.  I for one will miss the Geek Market greatly!  :'(

Yes, the data loss is tragic.

What!? A true modern gaming tragedy  :o What horrible news to ruin my day (that said thank you for notifying us here). Time to let the depression settle in...
Can we archive important data?

You are a hero Wilem! +1 merit and thank you.

With that out of the way, I think announcing the shutdown less than a month before its realization was a very dubious decision.

This is what Scott Alden wrote on the post. He's an admin at bgg.

As we announced previously, we are shutting down the Classic GeekMarket. It was not an easy decision, and I was personally gutted. Over the last few days, we’ve read your suggestions and spent a lot of time discussing how we could retain at least some of the utility of GeekMarket. We think we have a sustainable solution. We’re not ready to share all of the details, but essentially the plan is, with some tweaks, to turn GeekMarket into a classifieds system.

Please give us some time to work on this; we are still ironing out the details and will have answers to your questions soon. In the meantime, though, we were not happy with how the game-specific Flea Market forums were evolving, and we intend to remove them entirely tomorrow, along with any posts. I apologize, but with only a few days of posts, it shouldn’t be too much of a loss.

Is he referring to all the speculation going on for retired items?

Thanks for telling us about this egmar.

Interesting they didn't like the FleaMarket posts; I thought they said they were happy with them in the shutdown post.  Seems like they can't have it both ways.

Maybe it wil not be removed.

It will be removed.  They cannot comply with legislation covering "marketplaces" in the US.  That's a given.

Some functionality may remain - at least according to the announcement - but - if it does, they say it will be like a "classified ad" (kleineanzeigen) system.

The Geekmarket is still alive.

This is what they wrote on there page

Welcome to our new GeekMarket,

As someone with listings in our BGG GeekMarket, we are letting you know about a number of changes to the GeekMarket system. Here is a summary of how listings work in the new BGG GeekMarket:

• Creating a listing is the same - you say what you are selling, for how much, and where you will ship to.
• You will no longer need to confirm receiving an order before working out details with a buyer. Instead, buyers will message you directly when they are interested in your listing and you will communicate directly with the buyer to finalize the deal.
• Mark your listing as SOLD after making a deal with a buyer. You will be able to cancel the sale for up to 60 days after marking it SOLD in case something goes wrong where you need to refund the buyer.
• Successful listings (i.e. listings that are marked SOLD) are charged an advertising fee of 3% of the listing price. Your fees can be paid at any time here: /market/account/payfees
• Your number of completed sales with fees paid will be displayed on your other listings so buyers will be able to to evaluate sellers at a glance.

What do I need to do to join the new GeekMarket?

Nothing! All of your listings from the previous version of GeekMarket have been instantly transferred to the new GeekMarket.

I still have some unresolved sales from the old GeekMarket

Sales information from the old market will remain fully accessible to you until the end of September. Be certain to record any information you need to finalize those sales by then.

I'm not sure on the subtle difference here. Other than the  messaging might be clearer.
