General / Re: The Sheep – Element of the Week #26
« on: March 08, 2015, 08:51:46 PM »
ZMG rules require you expand your flock first if you expand your field, and then second you can place a follower. HiG rules require that you place a follower first before expanding your flock. The consequence of the ZMG rules is that you can expand your flock, draw a wolf, get run out of the field, and then immediately put your shepherd BACK into the field, which lets you draw another token from the bag. It majorly minimizes the risk of drawing, and almost completely eliminates the risk of having another player steal a field out from under you with their shepherd, which can (and should!) happen in the HiG rules.

Good to know; consider my objection withdrawn. My paper version is the old version of the rule, and I'm glad they've since fixed it. I use the CAR as the definitive guide anyway!

I love the sheep, particularly because pressing our luck tends to work out great for me and poorly for my husband!

But in all seriousness, it's really nice to have an extra thing to do when putting a follower down doesn't seem worth it. However, the ZMG rules regarding shepherd placement are really busted. It's essential when playing this to use the HiG rules only.

In what way is the rules different regarding shepherd placement? Was awhile since I last played with this expansion.

Yes. So if the unit is "10 pack" and you order 2, you'd end up with 20 of whatever meeple that is.

Anything Else / Re: Virtual Carcassonne may be possible this year

Parts of that are cool (such as the Minecraft stuff), but most of it made me feel squicky. I think I'll keep my life relatively hologram-free. (At least for the rest of this decade, I hope.)

Wow, your Plague fleas are all over the place. Mine were nice and centred. I wonder what happened.

For a minute I thought you meant that I had presented them in the picture all scattered and I was like "Huh, I thought I organized everything pretty darn well..."

But now I see that you mean that the printing of the fleas is off-center. Not too big a deal, I guess. I'm just glad to have the expansion. But you're right, they're definitely not consistent from one flea to the next.

Looks what arrived for me today!

That's a Belagerers (which in terms of the way I view completeness basically counts as a Cathars and a Siege for me too, though I'm sure some of you think that's sacrilege) and a Plague. Fortunately, the latter was shrink-wrapped because just about every token had popped out of the frame, hence you don't see it here.

Very much looking forward to playing with these soon. Thanks, Ted!

Merit for you! This document is absolutely fabulous (also if not officially approved)!
Ditto on both counts!

Leagues (including expansion leagues) / Re: The Order of the Meeple
« on: February 13, 2015, 08:54:52 PM »
I don't really have a horse in this race -- I don't particularly care for playing JCZ (not because I think it's a poor-quality piece of software, far from it, I think it's amazing), but just because I much prefer the experience of playing the real article; it makes playing the game that much more enjoyable for me if it's something I only do offline.

This isn't to say I won't come around, but for now I think I'll be steering clear of online play. That said, I've also loved following the progress of the T&B League these last few weeks, reading the game reports and tracking people's progress. I'm glad to see a bunch of folks having a good time and playing some really good games!

But I will also say this... I lurked around on these forums for a long time before deciding to poke my head up out of the water. And I'm glad I did, because it's nice to participate in the conversation instead of watch from afar. But speaking as someone who took a while to make that jump from lurker to participant, I would just want to make sure that the community stays open and accessible and as easily-welcoming to newcomers as possible. I definitely think that any sort of recognition of your progress in the Order of the Meeple "track" should be limited to within the "Leagues" forum, as a sticky post or whatever. That way people who want to participate in that can see their achievements recognized but new folks aren't wondering why their profiles aren't adorned with  :meeple: or  :green-meeple: and feel "left out" and maybe not want to participate (either in leagues or in general) for that reason.

Anyway, I'm sorry to see this has caused some distress. I'm sure that was the farthest thing from dan, MrNumbers, and jungleboy's minds.

I've called with Udo Schmitz today - now I can tell you some officially information:

The graphics artist for the double landscape tiles is Doris Matthäus.

Scooped up one of those Plagues and a Belagerers! Hopefully I can pick up a Phantom with maybe a Windrose or a GQ11 next month :)

I just bought this expansion today (thanks, Ted!) so I can't wait to be able to offer an opinion on this one eventually!

Official Rules / Re: When can I move a ferry?
« on: February 05, 2015, 07:53:39 AM »
Edit: obervet beat me to it by a few seconds!

No, that's not allowed -- your second suggested interpretation is the right one. The road has to include the ferry piece in order for it to be moved. If the road ends at the lake, it doesn't "include" the ferry. (S-CAR 7.3, p.148 fn.442)

Good question, though!

Arent these just available like.. everywhere?

Yeah, I'm confused. I was able to pick up all six minis for less than $30 USD total, and BC&B was a Christmas gift but is readily available for less than $15 online. Are they for some reason particularly difficult to find in your area?
