I really shouldn't be asking questions like this, but try as I might I can't find copies of replies I've sent to people who have sent me messages.
Until just now, I did NOT have this ticked "Save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default". Does that mean none of my replies have been saved?
I have told a couple of people I would do certain things, but now I seem to have no record of what I said I'd do - and there's no point rummaging through the deep recesses of what once used to be my mind ...

The forum will only keep copies of any messages you send if you check "Save a copy in my outbox" under your message box manually or set it as checked by default in your profile ("Personal Messaging" / Setting "Save a copy of each personal message in my sent items by default").
When clicking on "My Messages" on the top bar, an option "Sent Items" will show on the menu on the left. If you click it, it will show you any stored sent messages.
If you have the contacts of the people you replied to, you may ask them to send you back a copy of your previous messages. Hope this helps.

Thank you! I wonder if I had "unticked" the "save messages" box, or whether that's a default. Anyway, I just sent a PM and it was saved :)

It is unticked by default. I had the same issue some time ago until I found out about the setting to tick this option by default...

Might I suggest it should be ticked by default? :)

It would be desirable, but no the default options for the members. This setting required manual intervention. :-\
