Hi all
This is my first time posting on here! I have been a massive Carcassonne fan for about a year and i have a 500+tile set. I have used various different rules and have added a few small rules of my own - like the prostitute (female meeple that when added to another persons feature it reduces the score of that feature by half because the meeples are distracted, and when place on your own feature adds an extra 3 points as your own meeples are more motivated).
However, I have a question to ask, has anyone else abandoned the score board for paper and a pen? this adds an extra meeple to each player and also means its more difficult to see who is winning.

If I can ask, how did you find us?
We've never used paper & pen but instead we use d6's in each of the players' colors.

For scoring, we use the Android app on a table or a smart phone. Works very well, and eliminates the chance of arithmetic errors.

Without the scoring board is it not easy to play with the Messages or with the Robbers...
How do you handle this with smart phone? ;D

As long as you don't have these mini expansions is the smart phone a good scoring pad. But with the minis the scoring board has new activity...
You don't only score you can get through the scoring board messages and with the robber - yes he robs some points... ;D

I find using the scoring app on a table is very good. That is how we do it for every game now.
I checked the Google Play store, and there are other Carcassonne scoring apps that claim to know about all expansion sets. It is worth a look, if you have an Android phone or tablet.

On the iOS, I really like Scorekeeper XL. Really intuitive, easy to set up and match colors to your follower color. As you can see, my 5 year old son only lost by a point on that last one.

We tend to have kids and/or dogs running around so we always use paper when the need arises. I always keep score so I'm often accused of cheating (although since I rarely win that doesn't come up too often).
What Android app are you referring to? EDIT: never mind. Found it! Cool.

I always use the score board. I love that scoring this game makes me and my friends use our basic math skills on the fly.
Interesting about your rule initiative; I too have made some adaptations to the story/rules of my own packs. For example, in The Princess and The Dragon expansion that I use I have changed the story regarding the princess. In the original rules, it states that a knight must "save" the princess which is a knight is a removed from a city when the princess is played. I wasn't a huge fan of this as I saw no reason for a princess to need saving nor any reason a knight would be suited to do so. So instead, the princess is an awesome and strong character who boots male knights from her kingdom on calculated whims.

I always thought that the point was that the knight devoted himself to the princess in unrequited love and so was useless for completing the city. This is actually thematic as this was how love stories went in medieval times.

I guess the rules lack a story in general for the princess. Neat that we all create our own unique stories to fit the game!

I would love to read some of the stories. Can post them in a new thread just for the stories and novels that people have written. 8)
