Title: It's Over Nine.... Hundred?
Post by: Tyroq on April 03, 2013, 08:03:09 AM
Hello everyone, Tyroq the farmer here. And I was wondering what you all end up seeing as high scores in your games and tournaments. I have a small group I regularly play with, but being rural Iowa there's not a lot of outside contact for us to compare with the rest of the world. There came a time when we had to print new score tiles because we were running out. Has that ever happened to you?

Our highest scoring game was a 3-person mega-game on January 4th of this year. It ended at 916 to 892 to 782, with me on top.  O0

So how do you all normally fare? Post high scores here!  8)
Has anyone scored over a thousand?  :o

Cool! :)
What expansions did you use for that particular game?

We usually play with:

King & scout
Traders & builders
River I & II
Inns & cathedrals
Abbey & mayor
Cult & seige
Bridges, castles & bazaars

That's our standard mega-game. We also have the Tower, but my friends don't like it as much because it lets me be even more aggressive, and they prefer to keep me on a leash.  ;)

Wow, over nine hundred is a high scoring game even for my group. Our games are usually less than 400 or so.

If you're looking for a neat way to keep score check out my idea of using D6's to keep track of laps. I printed the 100 space board to make it easy to determine each player's score in an instant. No 50/100 tiles to keep track of (I knew early on in playing that there had to be some better way to keep score). So necessity IS the mother of invention.  ;D

You start with every die on the zero with the 6 pip face up. When you complete a lap of 100 you flip the die to the 1 pip, incidating you are 100. If you then rest on the 36 space you have 136 points such as Blue in the pic.

Hey that's pretty ingenius! And it looks like using die saves you from using meeple as well. So two benefits in one. I don't have very many different colored die though. But that is cool.  :)

If you guys are scoring in the 700 to 900 range, you may want to get some d10 instead of d6. There are web sites that sell all sorts of dice.

A good idea! Do they have small size d10s?

I use the circles from quevy. But I changed the idea from quevy a little bit.

Here is the link to the thread to the old forum

For the points from 0-100 I use the standard scoring board.

And then I use the circles with an extra Meeple - each circle is for another player (3 circles = 3 different players  :red-meeple:  :meeple:  :blue-meeple: ):
1 = 100
2 = 200
3 = 300
...
0 = 1000

over 1000:
A second Meeple stands in the middle of the circle...
over 2000 ?:
That was not happen yet.

The scoring circles from quevy:

At the Spiel 2012 in Essen - last year.
I talked with HiG - Georg Wild - about Mega-Carc and the problems with their own
scoring track (it has only 300 points). I have shown him a copy from the scoring circles created by quevy.
He was very pleased about the scoring circles.

Great picture and unique way to keep score.  Plus, you could use the dice to indicate the starting player, so that the youngest doesn't always go first!

That is exactly what we do. If there are 5 players, for example, we each roll all 5 dice to see who goes first.

The dice slide easily on the printed paper so you never have to lift them. I usually keep score and all I do is use an index finger to slide them around.

We had a very bad mishap during one game a little while back. We were probably half way through a game that my son-in-law volunteered to keep score on. During the game he managed to get the scoreboard worked over to the edge of the table so it was haning off a little. No one actually noticed. He made a tile placement on one turn, sat back into his chair, and in the motion of relaxing his right hand to his side he caught the edge of the board. All five dice went flying into the air and the score was completely obliterated. We all just sat there and looked at each other for a split second before we broke up into uncontrollable laughter. We still joke about it and he "volunteers" to keep score now anytime he is trailing in a game.  >:D

Over 900?  Is that common?  That seems exceptionally high.  Is that with standard scoring?

I like the idea of using dice to keep track of laps, but I can't handle the idea of the "6" side being used during the first lap. Looks like 10-sided dice have a zero face, which will appease my OCD.

If you have a lock with number combinations you can use that as an alternative to keep score.

Haha - you could use a meeple for the first lap I suppose, then introduce the die with the one pip up.  :D

I ordered a bunch of d10's from Chessex. The "10" face just shows a zero.
