Hey guys,
One of the CarcF members found out about Russian promo tiles. For nearly a week now we have been discussing the topic and have been trying to find out more about these tiles. So far we found out that these were presents for the participants of the Russian national Carcassonne league 2013, 2014 and also for 2015. If you scroll a bit down, here you can find pictures of them (http://vk.com/carcassonekzn2013). And here is a picture of the printed tiles (https://vk.com/event87223734?z=photo-51845379_355197090%2Fwall-87223734_18).
But so far we couldn't find any seller. Nor we've found anyone that would sell them and neither we have found pictures from Carcassonne fans, that own these tiles. To me it seems a bit strange. Maybe you know more about these tiles, or one of you is at least better in reading Russian than we are. :D
-
Russian is my native language. What do you want to know?
In 2013 these tiles were given to every participant of the local tournament. In 2015 these tiles are prizes for the first 6 places of the tournament. Nowhere is mentioned about selling, so I assume they can't be obtained other way.
By the way, they play by 3 players at the table, except the final stage (QF, SF and F).
-
I'm interested, but I don't quite know what Hans im Glück's relationship is with the Russian distributor of the game, or even if there is a legal relationship there. No offence to Russians, but Russia has not always been the best upholder of copyright permissions. If these tiles were allowed, then I'd definitely be interested in seeing a wider distribution of them, even if they are a bit silly in theme (which they appear to be).

This wooden house mounted on chicken legs is the house of Baba Yaga the Witch, from famous Russian Tales
-
About the rules, I was a bit late this morning and just had a brief discussion with my gf on this topic but she said that the house of Baba Yaga is like the opposite of a monastery, you get points for empty spaces around it.
-
Looks like my cat is out of the bag - I've got English rules for both tiles. I was planning on giving some to people with the pass-phrase at the UK Championships :(y)
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=284
'The Choice Hercules' tile has no special rules - it's just 2 roads. One with 3 exits the other with just one. You have to choose the easy or hard life, just like Hercules :(y)
-
wow! so this tiles are ufficial?
-
About Baba Yaga tile: interesting that in 2013 there were different rules for this tile: you could receive 0-7 points, not 8, so this explicitly meant that tile itself didn't give points. In 2015 it is changed and tile itself now give 1 point.
EDIT: And I don't agree with translation "Hercules". See the original - Bogatyr (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bogatyr)
-
yes; probably based on this: http://www.abcgallery.com/V/vasnetsov/vasnetsov80.html
I saw the two nymphs above the stone and was clearly misguided :(
I'll rework my upload this evening.
-
Probably you could include the translation of the words on the stone ...
-
Probably you could include the translation of the words on the stone ...
My translation (from the tile):
If you go to the left - you'll find death.
If you go to the right - you'll loose your horse.
If you go straight - you'll live, but will forget who you are [or forget yourself].
Feel free to make it "more English" :D
-
Thanks Mr Numbers: These were the tiles I'd been working on:
Technically the Hero tile isn't right, but I feel the logo makes it more fun.
-
These look great! Did you also print the "Hero" tile with the watermark?
Like here:

here the tile with the euro correct size
-
I like these a lot. Not entirely sure that I'd play with them much but I think they'd make great souvenirs and I like the idea behind Baba Yaga's house being kind of like a reverse-cloister. :(y)
Merit to Decar not only for discovering that these exist, tracking down the artwork, making the tiles and translating the rules, but also for trying to keep it a secret so that these could be given out as surprise gifts to CarcC members. You sir, are a hero! 8)

here the tile with the euro correct size
no... there is a black cat under the hut and the expansion simbol is mor down right
and it seems that the one who makes this tiles hasn't payed attention to the colours of the grass...
I try to adjust them! well we can't have the original ones but we can have them in funmade way and graphically more correct for our games!
-
here the correct tiles!
http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=285
there are 2 version of The Choice of Bogatyr with or without the write.

How to categorise these promo tiles? Would they fall into La Porxada's category which is semi-official-too-rare-to-get-so-print-them-yourself kind of promo tiles? What do you guys think?

I would place them in one line with "Spiel'14" tile - can be received only under certain circumstances.
-
Of course you reveal some rare, obscure tiles the day after my Russian city arrives and I'm content with a complete collection.
I bought a decent porxada replca for fairly cheap. Do you think people will be printing/selling these in the same manner? I'd give it a go but don't have access to a colour printer.

I'd place them with La Porxada. Spiel 14 is both officially from Hans im Glück and an actual printed tile, these are from a distributor, are unprinted, and have no formal recognition from HiG.

These two also are actual printed tiles (unlike to La Porxada), and from official Carcassonne distributor, not some magazine or so. We don't know for sure about the last part (formal recognition), maybe they have it.
-
Indeed they are printed tiles, not only stickers on blank tiles.
...and I think they would deserve a BBG entry too.
-
BBG? You mean Board Game Geek, don't you?
Regardless, how "official" this tiles to be considerated, I think they look really, really great, especially the Baba Jaga hut. Although, the cartoonish stile does not actually fit to Carcassonne.
-
Would anyone (kettlefish?) be able to ask HiG's opinion about how official these tiles are? And if there is ever any chance that they may be more readily available, say from Cundco.de?
-
BBG? You mean Board Game Geek, don't you?
Yep!
-
Thanks for tracking these down! It's really cool to see the artwork and the rules. I don't think I care much for the house but I do really love the idea of adding a token where you pick which side you continue the road on. I may try to draw a similar tile on one of the blank tiles, just for my personal use.
-
Does anybody have any leads on how to get these tiles in their official form? I can't find them on eBay or elsewhere.

They are not currently available, so unless you've got a time machine and fancy travelling to play at a local Russian Tournament, you're out of luck - I'm doing some small batches of home-made tiles though if you view Dan's Giveaway post.

I think the rules about the Baba Yaga tile are quite strange... :o
If I understand this correctly, you lose your meeple for the rest of the game, unless you are willing to complete it for only 1 point.
Maximum score you can achieve is only 8 points, that's not really much for losing a meeple for the rest of a game. So, I would only place a meeple on it near the very end of the game...

If it was drawn near the end of the game it could be a good tile. If all of the farms are taken 7 points could be a pretty good take. I don't think its actually possible to get more than 7 points because you have to lay the tile next to another tile with a grass side, so there'd be at least two spots of the nine taken up. But that's still better than a farm with only one closed city.
But yeah, if you draw that tile any time other than near the end of the game I can't imagine anyone wanting to play a meeple on it instead of using it to play a farmer (or place no followers).

The tile itself gives 1 point, so maximum is 7+1=8.

Hello
I don't read Russian, but I think it is possible to buy something about this expansion here:

The only thing keeping me from buying these is that their backs have the "K" instead of "C". Because of that I wouldn't be able to mix them in with the rest of my tiles. I'm still tempted to buy them anyway, though!

Hopefully, the custom version I sent you won't be too far behind now: which has a 'C'.
-
Wow, thanks for finding this quevy! I ordered one straight away :D
The seller says the are limited to 10 copies (and 1 per customer) so I suggest that people order quickly if you want a copy.
They only ship to Europe, but if you are outside Europe then I am happy to have your copy delivered to my address (in the UK) and I'll forward it on. PM me if interested in that and I'll give you my details.

I can certainly vouch for Decar's tiles, the quality of them is excellent. :(y) This said, I've also gone for a set of the tiles from the guy over at BGG because I wanted the bag as much as anything else and the price was fair.
Get them while they're hot!
-
The BGG ones are apparently all gone - it says 'product not available' on the page now.
-
I contacted him and he told me that people could order them directly from http://hobbygames.ru/meshok-schetchik-karkasson (http://hobbygames.ru/meshok-schetchik-karkasson).

The tiles are not available at the moment there either. I have entered an e-mail address, so I will be noticed when they become available again. The price is good - around 3.5 EUR (+delivery, of course).
-
Got my copy in just in time as well. Primarily for the bag like Dan. I'll be using Decar's excellent tiles for my day to day play.
Thanks again to quevy for finding the link; first the custom bags and more this, quevy you are a star.

Merit for providing this link quevy. It's just a shame we didn't know about them while they were still available directly from the Russian site... :(
-
I asked them if and when the tiles will be available again. Here is what they answered:
We will inform our publishing of such interest in this set. Unfortunately, we do not know the conditions under which the data were made bags and tiles. But we hope that the publisher will be able to produce more. Therefore, please write to us in a few weeks, when we hopefully will be able to give an answer, will these sets in the future.

Part of me did want to buy them just to *have* them. I'm actually more excited about Decar's tiles, though! I can't wait to play with those! I think the Bogatyr tile is my favorite carcassonne tile yet!
-
I just hope they live up to expectations; if not I'll have to try again.
As for the bag - I very much doubt I'll ever be able to make a custom one of those!
I like the Bogatyr tile too; I like the decision it leaves you to make. It's similar to the roundabout tiles from AnM & Bazaars. If you're willing to risk not finishing it, there could be a lot of points in the bag, especially when used with the Builder.
-
The story behind it is so cool too
"If you go to the left - you'll find death.
If you go to the right - you'll loose your horse.
If you go straight - you'll live, but will forget who you are [or forget yourself]."
It makes the whole game seem more like an epic journey for your meeples.
-
I don't remember who sent me two homemade sets of Russian tiles but THANK YOU! I just received them today. I had totally forgotten that I'd even requested them. Whoever you are, you are amazing! Now I have THREE expansions to review...man I'm getting behind...
-
LOL, a pleasure Whaleyland - I think you've got a double set and you were going forward it to @Andrew the Ambo to save me some postage costs.
Glad you like them :)

Mine arrived today. I'll add photos to the "I love the postman" thread later, I have just arrived home from two weeks of holiday and have quite a few exciting bits waiting!
-
Great to hear they are all arriving - I think there's one still out there making it's way to it's owner.
If you did pass me an address and think you should have received a tile can you let me know, just in case I missed you!
-
Actually Decar, I meant my original ones from BGG market. So there might still be two copies out there!
-
That makes more sense...I was wondering if I sent you some..would you like some? I'm doing a second batch this week hopefully!
-
Decar - yes please ! I have ordered some from bgg but would like some which can be playable so that I can keep the originals. I have started to keep a second copy of most things now.
-
No Problem! I felt a bit bad not having a spare set to give you at the Expo, but now I'm wondering if someone with a legitimate copy could create a high-res scan of the tile - I suspect the results would be better than the kludge I did!

One man's "kludge" is another man's awesome! I agree with the man who thought they were awesome...
-
Not "kludge"! Amazing! They are perfect!
-
@Rosco - Just PM me you address and I'll get something sorted + not forget!
@danisthirty & @spikey_dino : You're too kind - I just think my Hut image was a little blurry and perhaps it could be improved upon - I just want to get the most out of my new printer ;)

Thanks Decar, I will take you up on that offer. I'll PM you my address.
On a separate note, should these tiles be added to the profile page here on Carcassonne Central? Or do we not yet consider them "official" enough? (My vote is to include them.)
-
I think it's because Carcassonne Russian/Cyrillic is: Каркассон or: karkasson
Sorry rhetorical question. My Russian extends to the alphabet and about five words. I meant I don't understand the market logic of putting it in the Cyrillic alphabet. Obviously I accept that the rules need to be in Russian and the package as well. But the playing experience of Russian players is now impacted because they cannot mix and match Russian and foreign sets - unless they use a bag of course (but that feels wrong).
As far as written in some other thread (regarding the Russian "one tile Count") the versions would not fit anyway, because the tiles from the Russian distributor are different shaped with round corners.
-
I'm sorry if the answer is somewhere in this thread, I don't have time to read it all, but am wondering if these tiles are considered official now?

What are your criteria for an expansion to be considered official?
They are now listed in the CAR, the "Bible of Carcassonne". Amen! O:-)
About the publisher, according to BGG, "Hobby World is the first Russian publisher of European boardgames. The first game was published in 2001, and it was followed by the Russian edition of Catan in 2002. Carcassonne and Munchkin were published in the following years. Hobby World is the official Russian distributor of Wizards of the Coast, Games Workshop Ltd., Fantasy Flight Games, Days of Wonder, Cryptozoic Entertainment, UltraPRO, and other industry leaders."

For me, this is the reason why these tiles are as official as the Dutch Monasteries.

I agree that these should be considered as official tiles.

Decar and MrNumbers, thank you for the nice links! The only problem is that I would like to have it in Cyrillic script. ;)
I tried to figure out the letters on my own, but it is too difficult for me.

I think

Or this:
«Направо пойдешь — жену найдёшь, налево — коня потеряешь, прямо — сам пропадёшь»
This is different
If you go to the right - you'll find a wife.
If you go to the left - you'll loose your horse.
If you go straight - you'll find death.
There are very many variations of this stone, every time something is different.

But is this what is written on the stone of the Russian landscape tile, too?
No. On that stone is written:
Налево пойдёшь -
смерть найдёшь.
Направо пойдёшь -
коня потеряешь.
Прямо пойдёшь -
жить будешь да
себя позабудешь.
-
Ah, yes. There is a little difference. Thank you MrNumbers!

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I was reviewing the state of my completionism and I wanted to check something.
Way back in this thread aenima said that there are two versions of the Bogatyr tile:
there are 2 version of The Choice of Bogatyr with or without the write.
And over on another thread (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2288.msg32332#msg32332), Decar talked about a series of "completionist" items including "Both versions of the Russian Tiles from HobbyWorld":
If you're a completionist have you got:
> All three print runs of Corn Circles?
> Two sets of Teacher Meeple Essen/Cundco are slighty different
> Both versions of the Russian Tiles from HobbyWorld
> All 3 versions of the Cult
> A first edition of Brazilian Carcassonne / the 2nd
> Both versions of the Gingerbread expansion
> A misprinted King tile?
However, I don't think that there actually were two versions of this tile and can't find any pictures of the one with writing on it.
As far as I can tell, that image is actually just a coaster that was given out to some tournament participants, which can now be purchased here: http://en.hobbygames.ru/cork-coaster-carcassonne
(http://en.hobbygames.ru/image/cache/hobbygames/data/HobbyWorld/Karkasson/karkasson_koster-1024x1024.jpg)
Does anyone (aenima? Decar?) have any more information on this? Was there ever actually an official Bogatyr tile printed with the writing on it?
-
There aren't two versions of the tiles!
There's two versions of the score bag that was released with them!
There were two batches, the scorebags from both versions come with different drawstring! ;D
Don't get me started on the-school-drawstrings!
-
Ahh, phew ;)
Wow, I thought it was bad that I finally gave in to worrying about watermarks but worrying about drawstrings of tile bags is a whole new level! I think I'm ok with just the version that I have... for now at least!
-
Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I was reviewing the state of my completionism and I wanted to check something.
You had me at 'reviewing the state of my completionism'. :)
-
Yeah, the new drawerstrings are no where near as nice as the older ones. The School, I think I've seen three different batches. I find it interesting that factories that make these things make subtle changes. It takes a devoted enthusiast (nerd) like me to spot them. I doubt HiG ever noticed, specially given the misprint on bridges!
-

Does this seem legit/'original'? Are we talking about rounded tiles at the edges? It sure seems like it but if anyone has any experience with this seller..
-
Yep, Russian Tiles have rounded edges and Ks on the back - plus that's the publisher.
-
Thanks Decar!
-
Just to be sure, those tiles exist with the traditionnal C on the back or it's just with the K ?
-
Just to be sure, those tiles exist with the traditionnal C on the back or it's just with the K ?
They do not exist with the C on the back, they were only ever printed in Russia so only have the K.
Maybe this could be a project for one of the members with a good tile printing set up..?
-

Just K.

I believe Decar has already done this, although these may have been with his old printer so I imagine he'll want to redo them at some point.

Yeah, I'm thinking now that some people are able to do more "official"-looking tiles, creating better versions of La Porxada and Baba Yaga is a good project for the future. I was just reorganising some of my tuck boxes and forgot that all three of those tiles are just glued together. They are functional, but don't quite match the rest.
Too bad the Russian tiles cost a small fortune to mail. Their purchase price is so low!

I would be willing to be part of a purchase and I think it was already done here.
I think if we are between 5 and 10 people that is reasonnable.
For example for 10 people it should be 3500 RUB (price of expansion) + 2120 RUB (shipping) so around 74 € to Germany (with their currency rate)
Ok then the person who receive it all should dispatch and it should cost an extra on top of that but it seems decent to me
EDIT: Actually I just noticed that since you can't place an order for just 350 RUB, you need to take 2 sets and it would be around 34 €, seems expensive but I guess by selling the other, that should come for a reasonnable price
