The whole screen. So it's not ideal but if JCloisterZone is the only thing running then it doesn't make much of a difference.

OK so I've put some thoughts down about the Carcassonne World Cup and have started a separate thread so as not to distract from Rob's post.

If you're interested, please let me know along with any ideas/ thoughts/ suggestions you may have as to how it should be run on the following thread:

World Cup of Carcassonne Central / Carcassonne World Cup!
« on: June 10, 2014, 05:50:06 AM »
I am not a big fan of football, but in recognition of the fact that the World Cup will soon be here I thought it may be interesting to run some sort of Carcassonne World Cup here on the forums.

The exact format would depend on how many people were interested in taking part but if we could get 16 people together we could follow the model shown below with every competitor needing just four wins in order to take the title (the flip-side of this being of course that the number of active players is halved with each round):

Since JCloisterZone is currently proving to be a consistent and reliable method for playing over the internet in our league, I'd suggest that our World Cup matches were played using this. And since it can facilitate a good range of expansions, there's nothing to stop us from including these too; perhaps one or two expansions per round to really mix things up a bit!

I should stress that at the moment this is literally just a random idea so feel free to post any thoughts/ suggestions here (as well as if you'd like to take part) and if there's enough interest I'll be happy to get the ball rolling once we've nailed down all the details.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

I've been toying with the idea of suggesting some sort of Carcassonne Central World Cup which would be in the style of a knock-out competition with a final, semi-finals, quarter-finals and hopefully a round before the quarters if we could find 16 people interested enough to play. I'd definitely want to watch the final of that!

With regards the chat function, I don't think it works if you're not playing. When I've hosted games that I haven't taken part in I haven't been able to type anything anyway.

Also, recording is relatively straight forward. I've recorded all of my games so far although I haven't done much with any of the recordings. I use something called simply "Screen Recorder" which I kick off before the first game and then just leave it running until I've finished playing.

I'd be very happy to give you a match! I will PM you with my email address...

Would the game include expansions? I'm very happy to use whatever you like but I'm aware that a game played over email may take quite a long time to complete if there are too many tiles to go through!

@quevy - I have lost many tiles in the same way because my children have distracted me too! It looks like it was quite a close match though, who started which games?

@kettlefish - yes absolutely, we just need to wait to see what happens in the carcking vs jvnoledawg match. Hopefully this should be taking place either today or tomorrow and I will update the stats and post them here as soon as that happens.

Well done, it looks like you had a good match.

Thanks for the write-up MrNumbers.

Guys, thanks so much for your efforts in getting the league back on track! With just one match left to be played I'm hoping that the next round will be the best yet...

@Rosco - Thanks for your post. I hope the move is going smoothly. Whereabouts in the UK are you moving to?

@quevy - How did your match on Facebook compare to JCloisterZone? I can only see 69 tiles in your screenshot so I'm guessing the 3 missing tiles were discarded because of time-outs? That is one disadvantage with playing over Facebook, but I believe the time-out interval can be set anywhere from 10 seconds to 90 seconds when you start the game...

@MrNumbers - Your unbeaten role has continued! Very impressive.

Don't look now but I've heard there's a crazy rumour going round that Rosco, MrNumbers and Quevy may all be playing this evening! Stay tuned for details coming soon hopefully...

There may be unfortunate consequences of that rule amongst those who are taking the game very seriously!

Fantastic idea!

I believe Carcking took part in a similar event last year. He did an excellent write-up afterwards which can be found on this thread:

I would be only too keen to take part in something like this, but having a good knowledge of all expansions and how they work together as a pre-requisite may be asking too much from some people who may just be turning up to see what all the fuss is about. I have no doubt that it certainly could work, but it would have to be managed quite carefully I think.

Thanks kettlefish, but I guess Essen is out of the question for me now. Maybe next year!

@asparagus - I think luck is far more significant in 4-player games as you have so little control over the game compared to 2-player games. This said, I hope your daughter wasn't too annoyed with herself after what she did with her final tile in our game (cloister with road) as I think this would have put her in second rather than fourth and I would have finished in last!

It seemed as though this was what you were planning on doing when you placed the ccff tile diagonally south-east of where the tile I needed was, but you didn't follow this up with a tile above this which would have limited what tile I could play to close the city/ complete my cloister.

Blocking/ trapping my opponents' meeples is always a high priority for me, as you saw in our first game!

Thanks for the write-up JB, I hope you weren't too demoralised. Although I won on this occasion, I'd still say that we're pretty much equal although I seemed to have the tiles on my side for these two games! This said, I think you could easily have won the second game if you'd managed to permanently trap the 3 meeples that I had stuck for most of it. I've written a little about this below:

I really struggled to get into the second game as I was 3 meeples down for the majority of it. I got all 3 back with 27 tiles to go when I drew a cccf tile which is what I needed to win the small city JB mentioned and complete an adjacent cloister for 23 points in total (see below). The points were nice, but it was the meeples I needed as I simply couldn't have competed for the farm without them.

In some ways it was bad luck that I had to wait for so long for the right tile to come along and rescue my meeples, but I was a little surprised that JB didn't try to make this more difficult for me by limiting my options as it didn't matter whether I drew a cccf or a cccr tile to complete the city. If it had been the other way around I would have tried to have closed it down such that JB needed the cccc tile to fill the gap. I don't think this would have been difficult and there was certainly plenty of time to do it.

Hope this helps with the soul-searching!

Jungleboy and I have had our round 3 match and I'm pleased to announce that it was a hard-fought 2 - 0 victory to me!
