Title: Looking for Russian Wheel of Fortune
Post by: DIN0 on May 04, 2021, 12:33:20 PM
Alright fellow Carcassonners, I have a dificult task ahead. I need a new in shrink copy of Russian Wheel of Fortune: Каркассон.Колесо фортуны.
If anyone has it and is willing to sell, or knows of a seller online, please let me know. This is quite important for me at the moment :orange-meeple:.

Good luck.  One of my biggest Carcassonne regrets was not adding a copy or two to my Russian order way back when.  I thought I'd have time to order ... alas no.

I struggled for that one as well.
Managed to get a used copy after quite some searching, but a sealed copy will be very difficult.
Is there a good russian second hand site to check maybe?

Is there anything different or special about the Russian version? -  :pink-meeple:

Artwork is printed with a different type of printer (CMYK rather than RGB, I think?) (which has some weird results).

The tiles are a funny shape, more rounded.
They are compatible with other Russian tiles, they've got a K on the back for Kapkaccoh.

The WoF will have Russian on it.

I already checked. There are few offers, the best I found is a copy with unpunched tiles, but the shrink was removed. BGG has nothing at all.
This specific item is actually not for me, but for a friend.

They are all CMYK actually  ;)

Also, I am pretty sure you cannot print in RGB in the first place, because that is an additive color system.

I'll leave that to the colour space experts!

The main thing is that the colourspace is... not the same, you can see a few attempts to match the greens in the Russian special tiles.  From a scan I did a while ago, I remember that the print head is different too, but I've not scanned enough Rio/Zman/HiG tiles to verify if they have similar variance.

Have you DIN0?

I'd say that is probably the best you're gonna find. Even "a few offers" sound much better than when I was looking, around this time last year.

You are probably right Willem. But who knows, mayb if I wait a little longer, something will eventually pop up. The turnover of sellers for these items seems to be quite fast recently.

You mean direct scanning of the tiles? I haven't done that. However I have been doing something far more... radical for quite a while now, so I kind of have it in the eye. From what I have seen, there is no difference between Russian releases and the rest of Carcassonne in regards to printing style.
But maybe you know something that I don't. Could you elaborate on the printer head?
I think the different feel of coloration could be the result of lower quality cardstock used by Russian tiles. It probably comes out different.

And as to the inevitable question 'what on earth have I been doing with the tiles?', I cannot say at the moment  :-X but it will be elucidated eventually.
Right now I can only give an analogy: You are asking me if I have come close enough to the alligator to see if he is missing a tooth, but in reality I've had my head stuck in the alligator's jaws for the past 5 months.

And now that I have thoroughly confused you  ;D it is time to end my reply.

Merit for the absolute best quote I've read all week. -  :pink-meeple:
