Title: Halfling Sheep
Post by: Carcassonne King on June 05, 2020, 01:00:47 AM
I got my copy of the Halflings yesterday in the mail - finally!  I haven't had time to try it yet, but I already have a question about it.  One of the tiles has three sheep on it.  To my knowledge, this is the first time sheep have been printed on a tile.  The Wikicarpedia page says "You earn 3 points for the sheep on this tile if you guide your flock to the stable. A wolf cannot scare these sheep away."  These two sentences seem to contradict each other.  If you draw a wolf, do you get the minimum three points or not?

Well I think, it means, that seeps are not counter after wolf, but it they are available for next Shepherd.
Anyway, it's not first time. Sheeps were also in some version of River expansion.

As you mentioned, above the brief rules say: "You earn 3 points for the sheep on this tile if you guide your flock to the stable. A wolf cannot scare these sheep away."

C2 sheep upside down...  :o

In this case, this means:
* The three sheep are added to the flock of any shepherd(s) placed on the same field and can be scored by any shepherd guiding its flock to the stable.
* If you draw a wolf, you will remove your shepherd and any other shepherd sharing the same field along with all their shared sheep but these three printed sheep, if also part of the flock. Should this happen, no points will be scored.

So the printed sheep work as a bonus for the shepherd(s) in the same field when scoring. Nothing more sophisticated than that.

C1 has some printed sheep too as Bumsakalaka mentioned:

* The same tile in Halflings II but showing one sheep only.

Sorry, image roatated.

* Two tiles in River III, the River I version bundled with Big Box 5 including also two tiles with vineyards as a tie-in with Exp. 9 also included.

Aren't they cute? ;)

I was browsing the forum and came across these threads by chance discussing printed sheep:

* Sheep on C1 Halflings II tiles: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1275.0 (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=1275.0)
* Sheep on C1 River III tiles:

The printed sheep are permanent. If you score them, they don't go away, same with wolf. Players can score them multiple times for every time a sheepherd is placed on that field and scored.
