Title: TOP 10 Games - The Decider!
Post by: Decar on June 22, 2017, 02:39:01 AM
As most of you know our huge list of games resulted in a very close tie in the final (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=3380.0):

1) Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan - 12 votes
3) Pandemic, 7 Wonders - 11 votes

So,  you've got one last vote, to determine who the over all winner will be!

Voting will end on 29th June!

Certainly the hardest poll of them all. Eventually had to be 7 Wonders.

1. It has a lot of flexibility on it's own allowing different paths to victory.
2. It can support more than 4 player in the base game alone.
3. An expansion contains all needed to play it. One of the reason it won over Catan.
4. Game mechanics is a bit unique and orher similar games have been fun to play.

A neutral notes is the game play. It's not long which is both good and bad. The sorting and preparation can be tedious but a small price to pay!

I went with Ticket to Ride.

I've seen this list as the 'next' great gateway, (after Carcassonne of course).

TTR has a great tactile aspect with the great trains pieces. Add the simplicity of set collection and satisfaction of route building, and I can see why it is as popular as it is.

Catan has a nice tactile nature but has more fiddly rules. Player count is another minus in my books.

Pandemic has the nice bits but I see competition between players as a strong aspect to keep players coming back to a game. I suspect folks really like to compete against themselves - I can do better next time and i'm going to play until i win!. I don't know all this for sure just some game thoughts!

Sadly have not played 7 Wonders, but again I think bits win in this race!

I went with 7 Wonders because... well it has a few expansions available and... erm because it was the first game I went mad on with the diy expansion building :) My set currently has around 80 - 90 player boards and so many cards both in expansions and stage/level additions. Oh and because it now sits in a group of boxes of which the largest is around three times the size of the Carcassonne big box....

I really must put away the card stock and sticky paper.

Oh and because I love playing the game.

Not wishing to hijack this thread I've posted a separate thread in other games. Hopefully you can see why I chose 7 Wonders :)

Went with "7 Wonders", too. Don't like TtR much, like mentioned before. "Catan" brought me to the hobby (right from beginning wit expansions), and I like it, just feel, that "vanilla Catan" is just not enough, prefer it much more with either "Cities & Knights" and possible a few other small expansions or "Explorers & Pirates". "Pandemic" I have 2 solo plays and zero multiplayer "under my belt", so not enough to put  vote on it.

I have played Pandemic and the Cthulhu version and enjoyed playing both. I've played four times and have never beaten the game although on two of those games we came within one move of winning. It was the first Co-op game I'd played since getting back into board games and really enjoyed it. It would be up there in my top 5 games although I haven't yet been out and bought meself a copy yet. I try and buy for myself games that I can play with my wife and adult daughters. They love games playing but tend to shy away from the "Dads geeky games" so I have to find ones that they would like. It's hard work with them because when they do play they do enjoy it and the games make for an enjoyable evening. Should be one such evening tonight and I'm determined to get them playing either Carc or 7 Wonders. Once I make a start on the basic game I can then unleash the expansions >:D >:D

So there we have it - The unexpected underdog takes the trophy, by quite a significant margin!

1) 7 Wonders - 15 votes
2) Ticket to Ride - 10 Votes
3) Setters of Catan - 5 Votes
4) Pandemic - 2 Votes

It's surprising to see Pandemic and Settlers of Catan get significantly less votes than the previous Top-10.

Only 7 Wonders received more votes than the previous round - which really shows it's the most loved of these for 4 games.

Well done 7 Wonders - there are rumours of a new expansion this year - looking forward to seeing what it introduces!
