wooden token parts
« on: August 24, 2021, 06:57:52 PM »
I have my tiles sleeved, but I also want to be mindful of oily, greasy fingers and spilled drinks during game play on the Trader's and Builder's tokens, the Die Pest squares, the Tunnels, etc.

So, I'm thinking about getting some wooden replacements from spielmaterial.de and meeplesource.
So, there's tunnels https://www.spielematerial.de/en/spielsteine/bridge.html
there's barrels https://www.spielematerial.de/en/game-pieces/goods/barrel-small.html or https://www.meeplesource.com/proddetail.php?prod=Barrels
there's wheat https://www.spielematerial.de/en/game-pieces/goods/wheat-grain-crop-reed-plant.html
there's fabric https://www.spielematerial.de/en/game-pieces/goods/cloth-fabric-linen.html
there the towers from Little Buildings https://www.spielematerial.de/en/spielsteine/obelisk.html
the houses from little Buildings https://www.spielematerial.de/en/churches-cities-settlers.html
the sheds from Little Buildings https://www.spielematerial.de/en/spielmaterial/spielsteine/building-kindgom-builder-power-grid.html

Let's not forget a Big Black Pig to escape: https://www.spielematerial.de/en/spielsteine/pigs-pork.html

Corinthians13, you have some pictures somewhere of these: https://www.spielematerial.de/en/castles.html. what do you use them for?

Are there other things that I should consider? I know that there are round coin capsules that can preserve the round tokens, are there ones for the squares or pentagons?

Using wooden figures makes the game look better and protects the tokens  :yellow-meeple:

You can see all of my figures on this post:
https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=495.msg78497#msg78497

I use the castles as toll (tollkeepers mini). Also coffins and crosses for the plague, swords and crowns for king and robber, a rabbit for Easter in Carcassonne, some flags to mark bathhouses position, and houses as La Porxada markers.

You'll find links to see those figures in action here:

Hi Allograft, I am not sure if you have decided you want all wooden pieces to stay consistent with the meeples. If so, that is a fair choice.

I went with these gold bars  https://www.bgextras.co.uk/realistic-gold-token-i1999.htm which have been a great success; the weight in your hand is fun (plated steel) and players sit clinking them in their hands while they contemplate their moves. I think these alone have helped persuade a number of my friends to get into Carcassonne...

I think you are in the USA? These are Top Shelf products https://www.topshelfgamer.com/products/treasure-chest-resource-gold-set-of-10?_pos=2&_sid=16117cf02&_ss=r

After that, I upgraded the T&B tokens with the following which are resin and look fantastic sitting on the board or in your stash:
https://www.topshelfgamer.com/products/wheat-sheaf-set-of-10?_pos=1&_sid=2b3e04490&_ss=r
https://www.topshelfgamer.com/products/barrel-tokens-set-of-10?_pos=1&_sid=5f41db531&_ss=r
https://www.topshelfgamer.com/products/orange-cloth-bundle-tokens-set-of-10?_pos=2&_sid=0f554120a&_ss=r

For UK-based players, I can recommend bgextras if you don't already know it. They will get stuff in for you and are generally pretty helpful and charge much more reasonably than many others.

I am toying with getting some extras and making variants where villages, hills etc supply other resources (steel, stone...) for example, or monasteries produce books... probably using the same rules as Goldmines.

Cheers!
