My problem with the spin offs is that they don't have enough tiles.  The game is over so fast.  We have Amazonas and have played it twice.  I have also almost purchased South Seas and a used copy of the City several times.  Unfortunately they only release little expansions for the spin offs.  If I don't have 100+ tiles, I just don't want to play.

I prefer to play with 120 or so tiles when playing regular Carcassonne too. For the spin-offs that are similar to vanilla Carcassonne with some small tweaks (e.g. H&G, Ark of the Covenant, Winter Edition), I think you make a good point - it just feels like playing a rebranded version of base game Carcassonne. And if you're not a huge fan of playing just the base game, then these games might fall a bit flat.

But I think the idea of the other spin-offs (e.g. Castle, City and the newer ones) is that while they're still Carcassonne games, they're mechanically different enough from the core game to stand up on their own without extra tiles and expansions because of the new elements that they bring to the game.

I agree that they are different enough to warrant their existence, but I still want more tiles for them.   ^-^

Time for an update!

These are the games I originally listed on my Shelf of Shame and their current status:

Pandemic Iberia - still unplayed
Colosseum - still unplayed
Colt Express - provisionally sold to Chooselife, never played my own copy of it
Saloon Tycoon - sold without being played
Dungeon Keeper - for sale
Fresco - still unplayed
Ulm - sold without being played
Back to the Future: An Adventure Through Time - for sale
7 Wonders - Played several times. Off the wall of shame!
House of Borgia - still unplayed but might have a chance in Feb with the right people
Biergarten - still unplayed. A bit embarrassing as I'm in the game.
Touria - sold in shrink wrap

We still haven't played Russian Railroads or liar's dice.  We have tried all the Pack O Games with the exception of "box".

New shameful additions:
  • Hanabi
  • Flux
  • Patchwork
  • Sheriff of Nottingham
  • One Night Ultimate Werewolf

The last 2 we impulse purchased on super sale.  I don't know when we will ever have enough players to make Werewolf worthwhile.

This seems like a fun topic I could participate in. Maybe it helps with actually getting some of these games to the table eventually. So here it goes in no particular order... (I'm not counting expansions though.)

  • Tide of Iron - This is likely the game I own the longest that hasn't hit the table yet.
  • The Fury of Dracula - This was an impulse buy when I heard FFG and GW were parting ways
  • A Game of Thrones: The Board Game (Second Edition) - I'm still very eager to get this one to the table shortly.
  • Mystery Express - This is a recent purchase.
  • Carcassonne: Mayflower
  • Mystery of the Abbey - This is another recent purchase.
  • Skull - My latest purchase.
  • Revolution: The Dutch Revolt 1568-1648
  • Star Wars: The Queen's Gambit - 1st copy was incomplete. Recently got a 2nd incomplete copy. But combined it is now complete!
  • New Dawn
  • Recycle
  • Boonanza
  • Felix: The Cat in the Sack
  • Zooloretto: The Dice Game
  • Hammer of the Scotts - I had an attempt at this but I find it hard to go through the rulebook for some reason.
  • GIPF Series of Games (except GIPF, PUNCT, and YINSH)
  • Neuroshima Convoy

Looks like I've got some work to do!

I could probably use an update too since I'm in the US for a bit and got some of my games sent to me in California:
* All Flashpoint expansions (STILL even though I have everything with me now)
* Eight Minute Empire: Legends + Expansion – Played once but friends lost interest in less than eight minutes
* BrilliAnts – Rotting on my shelf. For some reason, I am afraid to introduce this one to anybody.
* Above and Below – Also for some reason scared of playing this with anybody. Also, thought it was more like Near and Far.  :-\
* Dominion: Nocturne – Just got but may be a while before it can be tried out
* Carcassonne: Markets of Leipzig – Haven't had a chance to try this out.
* Small World Underground – Friends got too tired to finish the first game, haven't played since
* 7 Wonders: Babel – Sadly nobody wants to play this expansion with me.
* 7 Wonders Anniversary Packs – Nobody here really likes 7 Wonders... :-(
* Brew Crafters – Still only played it twice.
* Star Wars Carcassonne – Meh.
* Star Wars Carcassonne: Expansion 1 – I am hopeless.
* Most Memoir '44 expansions (all are still in Arizona)
* Alhambra: Expansion 6 (still in Arizona unopened)
* Catan Geographies (still in Arizona unplayed)
* Brass: Lancaster, Brass: Birmingham, Crusader: Thy Will Be Done, and Flow of History – All Kickstarters that were originally scheduled to be shipped by end of January but have all been delayed to later dates, meaning I won't see these games for literally years since I'm moving back to New Zealand in mid-January (I originally planned to return in early February).

As a newcomer to this wonderful hobby: How does this even happen?
I can't wait to play every game I put my hands on! Granted I only have a few of them, but still, I can't see myself shelving them purchase after purchase.

Will it happen anyway?

It happens when you don't have enough people around you who want to play games, or who want to play the games that you want to play. I certainly want to play every game I buy, and the sooner the better. But it doesn't always work out that way.

I've just got a couple games on my shelve that i haven't played yet.
I am ashamed to name Carcassonne: The City, that i have had for a while, but haven't gotten around to play. I've got all spin-off games, and have played most of them, but this one was about the last one to arrive i'm afraid.
Carcassonne: The Discovery is also on their, as the reviews I heard about it havent been good, so it hasnt been high on the list to play.
Koehandel is the last one. I've played this years and years ago, and 2 weeks ago i picked up my own copy in Holland, but we haven't had the time to play it yet :P

Nice idea to revive the thread and check in.

Sadly I've only taken one off the list below. Fresco has made it onto a regular rotation.

... and yes I have added many more to the etc. list. Still I've played more 'new' games than ever this year.

I added Valletta, to this list. I've learned this HiG title, just waiting for the right time to teach it. Can't wait!

Carcassonne: The City
Ulm (would still consider this near the top but there are so many in the wings)
Tikal
King of Tokyo
Tokaido (this has come so close but its a challenge to get the girls at home to try new games at times. I also hope to get this played at work)
Pandemic Legacy
Tiny Epic Galaxies
Pandemic Iberia
Fresco (Done!)
7 Wonders
Valletta
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
Etc.
Franks

Wanna play Carc? Can we add just one more expansion?

* 7 Wonders: Babel – Sadly nobody wants to play this expansion with me.

Did this set you back much? My family have bought the other expansions as this one nearly costs triple the amount of the others.

+ how can you not like 7 wonders? (In reference to your friends)
