Hi Adrian,

Probably my "Fluvium" set of river tiles (for new artwork) which are on the download part of the site; there's a separate discussion thread (I think it's a couple of pages down under "Expansion Workshop") with a link to hi-res sheet. They were, in effect, a set of tiles in advance of any official RiverII tiles release. At the time I made them, there was no indication of whether RiverII would be released in the new artwork, but the tiles were made different in case, as happened, RiverII was released later. As far as I was concerned, they were just a selection of other river tiles - no specific rules - other than that a couple of the cities were connected across the river by bridges or city walls.

Best wishes,
w.

The second smiley is closest as there doesn't seem to be a bearded face with glasses which I would do as (8-)>

Hi Dan,

Could I please have the plain cloisters tile in original artwork?

To follow up on my original posting, the tile layout on the mirror was a sort of solo game. After placing the coast and river I pulled each tile from a bag and starting at the bottom right corner, and working horizontally to the left and then up row by row, placed the drawn tile in the first legal location. If multiple alignments (such as road corner or 3-way junction, then my choice. The idea was to build up the landscape without having any gaps. As shown, that didn't work and I think I missed one valid placement towards the end.

Thanks.
W.

Hi Dan,

What a kind and generous offer.

Our last game was while my wife and I were on holiday for a few days in the far reaches of the north west (of Scotland) in a nice little hotel - sadly the room we had looked out the back on grassy slopes, instead of the front of house view over the sea. Unfortunately, the tables in the residents lounge were too small (they were large enough for chess and scrabble, which were provided), and we didn't think that the diners would want the two of us playing Carc while they had their quiet romantic dinner, etc. So we headed back to our room where we didn't even have a table. But, by laying the large mirror on top of the foldable suitcase stand, we had an ideal size, but a limit to how far the land could extend. I'm sorry but I don't have a photo of a real game, but below is a mock up I made during the afternoon just to see if it would work. Before we left we did our best to clean the mirror as it was covered with lots and lots of fingerprints - what might the hotel staff have thought we were doing to cause that ...???

If I remember correctly, we pre-laid the section of coast (as shown), then started the actual game with laying out the river sections back to their sources, then carried on with the base game tiles, including a handful of things like inns, wells and gardens to try to fill up the mirror a bit more.

Carc2 refers to the first printing of the base game and first two expansions. When the rest of the expansions started coming out the ground in the cities was much lighter, so they are referred as Carc2.1. Recent versions of the base game and first two expansions now have the lighter backgrounds. When designing tiles for expansions I have to remember to do both as I have the dark base and expansions, while everyone else seems to prefer the lighter ... ;)

Or Carc1!

Congratulations! I first spotted it on the wheat one and then noticed the silk one when I looked a bit closer.

So, what are these two doing? And who can identify the tile? The tile (and possibly others) occur in both Carc2 and Carc2.1 versions.

And it was one of the options to one of the questions (BoardGames topic) in today's Pointless Quiz on UK TV ... lowest score of the round, too - not surprisingly
I tried to watch this episode online, but sadly since I'm not in the UK, it's blocked.  >:( I was looking at the bbc.co.uk website. Is it available somewhere else online, that isn't region locked?

No, I think it's limited to UK based viewers only (flipshot) but should be available for 28 days from original screening on iPlayer (danisthirty)

I got tower pieces from Spielmaterial a few months ago. See Stackable Roof pieces. Plain wood, but brown also available.

Official Rules / Re: Magic Portal to an unoccupied Monastery..?
« on: April 01, 2018, 10:13:35 AM »
But with CarcII and The Abbot meeple, he/she can be removed from the feature before it is complete and score the number of already laid tiles when removed (assuming no other wood activity in that turn). Mrs Wolnic and I always play that the Abbot meeple can be placed on either a Garden or Cloisters (and can be withdrawn early, as a quick grab for points) and were just pondering this same scenario last night. Since we don't play with the portals at this stage it's a moot point.

I would have thought that since the Cloisters, or garden for that matter, is not yet "complete", although scored, a regular meeple (as Abbot), or Abbot meeple, could sneak into the partially completed Cloisters (either meeple type) or Garden (Abbot meeple only) via a portal, or flying machine, so long as there is at least one tile to be placed.

However, I've not read the CAR specifically on this matter - but this is probably how we'd play it. It would just add to the gamble of removing The Abbot early, knowing someone else might sneak into the unoccupied feature later and get an easy score.

Don't have LoWD, nor played it, so can't compare. Might be able to compare to Midgard though. Fields of Fame expansion was the one I thought might add most (including the 5th player, if nothing else), and might consider getting the solo variant when it comes out.

Thanks, Decar. No, nothing [major] planned, other than a list as long as my arm of Carc tiles to finish off and/or update (Stone Circles for CarcII using the stones on the Shrine tiles, Sailing The Seas for CarcII, finish the New Forest rules (reminded recently by Jan Groot about these), some coastal forest tiles, and a bunch of other stuff) ... and then there's the garden to whip into shape now the snow is (hopefully) behind us ... but this should still leave plenty of time for walks, going out for lunch, theatre, music recitals, baking bread, more gaming, etc. etc. In other words, all the stuff you never have enough time to do when you're working ...

I'd played Champions of Midgard with the work colleague who bought RotNS for me, which I enjoyed, but there was no point in us both having the same game, and I didn't have a "worker placement" type game at home. I'm thinking about at least one of the expansions while it's available. I watched Rahdo's full run through a few weeks ago, so that was a good grounding for me, and my wife watched a couple of others, including Rodney's.

And meeples with horned helmets - who can resist?
