Do you think we will ever get an official announcement or word that there are no mini expansions left to be released in the classic artwork? Everything points to German Cathedrals being the last, but until it's said for sure by someone official, I feel there is the ever so tiniest bit of hope there could still be something more. Perhaps some fan expansions such as Fortune Tellers being officially printed since the artwork is already done?

No. If they did that they couldn't make a 25 year anniversary reprint.

If people complained about the new artwork as much as people complained about New Coke or the Edsel, it would have gone away and be a sad footnote in Carcassonne history. Unfortunately like a certain Paul McCartney Christmas song, people seem to like it no matter how much it irritates me.
The games Mouse Trap and Life also received terrible makeovers (actually worse than Carcassonne's IMHO) and yet they too are here to stay. The people have spoken and voted with their wallets.
I feel like I am becoming an old man who always talks about the good old days and yells at clouds.
