20th anniversary edition question about box coloring
« on: January 27, 2025, 01:01:25 AM »
Hello everyone,

I have a question about box coloring, I received my 20th anniversary edition a few days ago and I got a little disapinted with the box coloring. I was expecting flashy blue and golden letters like in this immage here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Carcassonne/comments/11ie5c8/if_i_purchase_the_carcassonne_20th_anniversary/

Instead I got something like this:

https://shorturl.at/7Do7h

Blue is more muted and latters and coat of arms have this greenish hue.

So my questin is for all 20th anniversary edition owners, is your box colored differently? I mean since the tiles have inconsistent coloring I would not be surprised that we have the same case here.

Few more examples:

https://boardgamegeek.com/video/329268/carcassonne-20th-anniversary-edition/unboxing-cz-mindok

Also as a side note in that same order I received this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/11ohRDrLrngmS1FZcKWtn4baaRu8GZ0eD/view?usp=drivesdk

https://drive.google.com/file/d/11odd-_xFmzaW3nK4-s46kC66D2Nlt6o4/view?usp=drivesdk

and I did not order it, tey used it as a bubble wrap, I mean it is not damaged , maybe a little bit , so that is interesting  :pink-meeple:

When I play with my friends we don't use official instantly occupy and score rule for cities/roads, we find that too easy, you first need to add tile to unoccupied city/road, place your meeple and than score it in next turn. It causes massive changes for all expansions but that's the way we like it

I have the 20AE from CundCo, and I can confirm that the colors here are exaggerated.

Apparently they don't sell many maps of France and have decided to use them as packaging material.   ::)

Probably, but for whatever reason I am grateful, I will iron it and it should be good. I was planning to get these maps anyway so looks like Christmas came early   ;D

I've got about 15 different copies of the 20th anniversary edition, from different countries/languages/publishers, but I have not seen any major differences in the colour intensity between them.

I agree with Paloi that the colours shown on the reddit post are exaggerated. Looks like someone upped the intensity in post.
The colours do stand out to me on the boxes, but maybe not as much as you had expected or hoped.

Then the map is indeed a bit odd; these are usually sold as separate product, but it looks like they used it as packing material for your order

The colors on the reddit post are exaggerated. They are also posted on BoardGameGeek and have the same over saturation of colors on the box and playing pieces.  Actually, most places I look the colors are overly vibrant.  I'll take a pic of mine on the shelf, but it might pop the colors too.

@Willem you got 15 different copies waaaaau, you are serious collector.

I think I figured it out, it looks very different in different light conditions. So it looks good in certain light, but I still think it would look better if it is a little bit more flashy.

@Willem I also wanted to ask you if you could take a picture of your collection, that would be very nice to see.

Yes of course! I'll try to remember to do so tomorrow.
The downside of this edition is that you cant tell the different language versions apart from eachother from the front of the boxes, which is too bad as I've got some real beauties hahaha
