Carcassonne Dream Teams
« on: October 16, 2015, 08:49:10 AM »
I’ve been trying to come up with ideas for interesting new tournaments lately and am quite keen on having a "dream team" league (or at least doing a trial anyway). The emphasis would be on arranging a bit of fun and friendly competition rather than being too serious, so there probably won’t be anything to put in your trophy cabinet at the end of it. An outline of how it might run is described below:

1. Everyone who wants to take part must be part of a team and each team must consist of two members. Teams must also have a team name e.g. "The Dragons" or "Team AwesomeCool" or whatever...

2. Teams play each other via a series of 4-player games. In each game, both team’s scores are calculated by the sum of their two member’s scores, e.g.:

Team 1 consists of Player A and Player C
Team 2 consists of Player B and Player D

:blue-meeple: Player A scores 135
:green-meeple: Player B scores 125
:red-meeple: Player C scores 120
:yellow-meeple: Player D scores 100

Team 1 scores 255 (135 + 120)
Team 2 scores 225 (125 + 100)

In the case above, Team 1 has won by 30 points. They get 2 league points and +30 PD. Team 2 get 0 league points and -30 PD.

:(y) :(y) :(y) Well done Team 1 :(y) :(y) :(y)

3. Every team plays every other team, and the team with the most league points at the end (followed by PD as tie-breaker) wins overall.

Things to consider:
  • Who will everyone choose to buddy up with to form their own personal "dream teams" (and what team name will they come up with - there could be a prize for best/ funniest/ silliest team name ;))?
  • Arranging mutually convenient times between 4 players (rather than just 2) may make this more complicated so would it be better to make this a European trial before deciding whether it’s worth doing a worldwide one?
  • Co-operating with one other player whilst both of you attempt to outscore your mutual opponents could make for some very interesting games! What tactics or combinations of tactics will work best?
  • Expansions? Also, are all games the same in terms of which expansions are used or would it be better to do it in rounds and use a different set of expansions with each round?
Please post below if this would be of interest to you, or if you have any suggestions/ ideas/ improvements. Thanks! :)

I think I want to participate.

His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.

When you lose, do not look at what you lost, but what's left to win ..

Hello all! Sorry for not responding to this sooner... :-[

It’s great to see so much interest; 9 players already! Ideally we want there to be an even number of teams so that every team has a game with each round, which means we need 3 more players (to reach 12 players/ 6 teams). So, anyone else? O:-) :(y)

Here’s who we have so far:
  • danisthirty
  • Decar
  • Hounk
  • jma03
  • jungleboy
  • MrNumbers
  • quevy
  • Rich_The_Fish
  • Rosco
I don’t think it would be a good idea to start anything until the current World Cup is finished, so I’m hopeful that this competition can begin at some point in early to mid-November.

There hasn’t been a lot of feedback from anyone on the specifics so far, so I’m just going to throw it out there and suggest that we do the league in rounds and select 2 big expansions and 2 small expansions that all games must include with each round (perhaps chosen randomly). I’ll list the fixtures and the included expansions in advance of each round. C:-)

How does this sound?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, for those who have already signed up and who are looking for a partner to team-up with, now is the time to find one (and think of a cool team name)! :)

Sounds intriguing.  I've never considered teaming up.

Count me in.  Have you partnered up yet Rich_the_Fish?......must be good scope for a team name as we are both Richards....
