Welcome to the group stage of the 2015 World Cup of Carcassonne Central! This thread is primarily for members of Group F to arrange matches between themselves and post scores, screenshots and the obligatory smack-talk as the group progresses. The top 2 players from this group once everyone in the group has played all 4 of their matches will advance through to the knockout stage.
Here is a list of the group members (including location):

If you haven’t read them already, please ensure that you are familiar with the tournament rules/ general information (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=2012.msg27708#msg27708) (you should also receive this via email). You may also find the JCloisterZone FAQ (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=778) interesting/ useful if you have any unanswered questions about how JCloisterZone works (or you can just email me).
Good luck, and have fun!

Due to an apparent "bug" with the way River 1 is implemented within JCloisterZone, please avoid using this expansion in your game. At this stage of the competition we will now be using Inns & Cathedrals and King & Robber Baron only.
-
I will be available for games around this time tomorrow. Say 2000 UTC. It would be good to get some games played in this group.

3 games played today. Myself vs Leven, Leven vs dustyu, dustyu vs myself.
AndrewtheAmbo 188 : 157 Leven
This was a close fought game, with us both always within striking distance of each other.
Leven got an early lead on cities, but I caught up.
It all came down to the farms. I was the first to committ a farmer, and we ended up trading blows trying to get the large farm. Every move of Leven's was countered until we ran out of tiles.
-
My second game was against dustyu, a new competitor. I saw his game against Leven, and was quite nervous going in to this game.
AndrewtheAmbo 212 : 170 dustyu
I got a good early start, collecting a cathedral city. We tied for the second, larger cathedral city, but it was dustyu who closed it (much to my disgust, I wanted to close it and get the King tile).
By this time, dustyu had both the King and Robber tiles, so I knew I had to finish 20 points ahead. I got a few good cities to build up a healthy lead, and tried to sneak in another longer road, but just short of getting there dustyu spoiled my plans with the use of his large meeple. It then became a battle for fields, with me trying to block or match dustyu each step.
Edit= forgot to add the screenshot.

Of course, here it is.
dustyu vs Leven 252:195
It seems that you don't have to count with me in the knock-out stage of this World Cup. With already two defeats (both with quite considerable point difference thanks to the risk I had to take from a certain phase of the games) I have only mathematical chance to qualify for the second round. Both games were very exciting, Andrew and dustyu played on a very high level (clever defending against trapping) and they even had a bit more luck than me.
In the game with dustyu there was an all decisive moment when he finished his cathedral city and at the same time he even gained the King. It was obvious that the city will be completed because it was in an early stage of the game and only a quite common CCRR tile was missing there (red dot on the screensot), so if I had drawn that tile I would also have completed his city just to gain the King, thus keeping the score around even. But this way the gap became so high that I had to take too much risk afterwards. E.g. I had a 4:0 lead on the main farm, but I decided to join two of dustyu's normal followers (purple dot) to that farm in order to take some points from him (which he could have scored by the separate farms of those followers), but then my lead concerning majority was only 4:2, and dustyu needed only a CFFF tile to join his big follower to the farm (blue dot). And when he eventually got one of them the game was decided.

So my first ever world cup game went pretty well for me. Scores:
Curt: 211
Andrew: 161
Screenshot attached!
It was very close through the game. I had my two meeples trapped in the small single city and the cathedral for the majority of the game so was two meeples down but got some lucky tile draws and managed to steal the big city in the middle from Andrew. Farms were very close with the mega farm being shared between us. I was also lucky enough to end up with the king and robber baron, but Andrew came very close to stealing the robber baron from me.
I'm now around a bit more to get other games scheduled. Will be available for most of the day and then on evenings for the upcoming week (BST).

I think he is back sometime next week. Not 100% sure though.

There have been a lot of upsets and surprises in the tournament already. The Elo scores are going to be all over the place by the end of this!

Welcome to the tournament Curt194, and congratulations on your win!

The last two quoted parts are not my quotes, FYI.

No, but it does say who they are from...
-
On tapatalk it says they're all from me. It's correct on the web version.(http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/09/06/1002def56b79c01c644471040edc05ba.jpg)

Ah - I will be home in 2 hours. I will be online tonight.
On my tapatalk it shows who the quotes are from .

Second game was very very close. Only three points in it...I missed taking the farm on the upper left instead I placed the 3 point meeple in the city at the bottom. Bit gutted now I've realised that but oh well. Very good game regardless.

Sorry, I've been quite busy these days, but hopefully I will be able to play my remaining two games soon.

I have emailed everyone with my schedule. But no replies. I should be able to play a game or tomorrow night.

Hi Rosco,
dusyu likes to play his last game in group F against you - he is online in the chatroom.
-
I will be online in about 30 mins

dustyu 258:192 Rosco
Rosco and I played our match today and it was a good battle. Rosco drew a cathedral tile early, then a couple of turns later I drew the other. Only I was forced to play it on his city, which he quickly had 3 meeples in. I was able to fight back and tie the 78 point city (4 meeples each). We needed a cccr tile to finish it, but we went most of the game without drawing it. While waiting to get some meeples back, Rosco quickly trapped 2 of mine, with a smart play. It didn't think I had much of a chance down 2 guys, but I was able to claim the Robber and score the 45 point field (4-3) for the win.

Tight group! glh510 and I await the two survivors :)

Hi all,
Firstly sorry for my complete lack of communication. Been some emergencies which I've had to focus on so sorry that it's been a while.
I am, however, now back and available for games…weekday evenings after about 8 are good for me this week and if it's arranged I might be able to make some time over the weekend too.m
I will get back to people who have messaged me later today
Thanks

Where is the result of Rosco’s game with Curt194? I believe it was a narrow win for Rosco but I can’t remember the score. Has nobody posted it?
-
here you go
-
Awesome - thanks Rosco! :)
-
Okay. So now I need Leven to narrowly beat Curt. It has to be 10 points or less though.
-
Okay. So now I need Leven to narrowly beat Curt. It has to be 10 points or less though.
As I can see, regardless of the result, if Leven wins Curt, he will qualify.
-
Andrew, I'm afraid you're wrong. Your point diffrence is -12 at the moment while mine is -1. That means even if I beat Curt by only a single point, I will have better point difference than you. On the other hand, if I lose to Curt, then he finishes 2nd in the group with better point difference. So you can only qualify to the next round if we would play a draw.
-
Go the draw.....

The last game of our group:
:violet-meeple: Leven vs :red-meeple: Curt194 207:109
I'm through to the second round. ;D
-
Awesomesauce! Well done on getting your game played guys.
And congratulations to you Leven (and dustyu) on reaching the 2nd round... :(y)
