Title: Should I Get The New Big Box?
Post by: InTheDark on December 08, 2017, 10:04:10 PM
Hi Everyone,

So I have got the Base Game, I&C, T&B and some other expansions major and minor expansions in the new art work.
I was wondering if it is worth buying the new Big Box with the mini-expansions.
Also does anyone know how much each of the mini expansions cost(in USD) separately in the old artwork.
Edit: By how much it costs I mean when they were first printed a widely available.

P.S
Does anyone know when the rest of the expansions in the new artwork are coming in English?

Thanks for your help :)!

I assume all old mini's are hard to get by these days.
I like the box but is was my first box. If you already got most of the expansions which are in the box. Then it might be a waste. Although you can always mix all expansions and base games multiple times, you still end up with a lot of doubles. You could try and sell the other stuff and keep the new tiles.

Welcome to the forum,

Let's say you buy the new box. So then you have twice the base game, twice I&C, twice T&B. Then you get all the mini's. Which are 7 / 8 little expansions, which are mostly not played all together. I like some of them, but that's me.
If you want to know if you will like the mini's you can try them out as there is a digital version of Carcassonne available here, called JCloisterZone wich you can download from http://jcloisterzone.com/en/ (http://jcloisterzone.com/en/).
If you want to have the mini's atm they are only available in the Big Box in the new art. For the old arr they were sold seperate and in the big box, but that big box came later. So for now I would say if you really want them buy that big box en sell your I&C and T&B so the big box is cheaper (or you can keep them ofcourse ;D)

That was something like ~ 5 dollar

Well... for a collector the new big box is a must have. The scoreboard is different, there is the expansion simbol on the river's tiles and there is the big questin: will the minis be reprint alone?

There's no river watermark on the river tiles that come with the new art base game?

There's very small differences in the new big box, like the icon on the scoring track and expansion symbol on the river tiles.
When it was announced for me it was the start of my collection in the new art, so I knew I didn't have to buy the 1st 2 big expansions. I got a base game with the festival and now even that is available on its own.
I think they will eventually release the minis on their own, but this could take a while. Maybe later in 2018...

As aenima said, for a collector it can be a must have (depending how much of a completionist you are)
And if you want to be able to play with the minis, I'd say go for it!
I'm glad I got it when it came out!

The only hard one to find is Mage & Witch -I got two (fliers and messengers) fairly recently for responsible prices.

Thank everyone for all you advice, I think I will wait for the Minis to come out separately and then see how the price compares to the big box :).

Well there is the different tile backing but that doesn't really count.

That is probably best.  If you are like us, one Mage & Witch copy isn't enough.  You need at least 2 to make it worthwhile if you play with more than the base game.

I am not sure if the Minis will be published separatetly. If you like to get the Minis for the new edition, than theBigBox is the only chance.

The rules in the BigBox are more clear and there are some more examples for the base game, the first and second expansion.

The ground of the city feature is lighter, not such dark onto the tiles.

I forgot to mention it here but I did end up getting the Big Box and I would say it's worth it for just for the Mini Expansions if you able to get it!
