7th and 8th player meeple colour
« on: April 25, 2022, 07:33:22 AM »
I would like to extend the player count of my Carcassonne collection to eight by adding two new player kits. Besides the standard colors (blue, red, green, yellow, black and pink), Cundco lists purple, brown, grey, black, orange and untreated.

Which colours would you advice? Any experience with poor clarity due to contrast issues in such larger games?

I normally play orange or white. I like how they stand out. But this is a matter of personal taste, you know.

I would add grey and purple for an 8-player set. Grey was the sixth-player colour back in the C1 days, and pink and purple became the official seventh and eighth-player colours with the last C1 Big Box.

That being said, the first additional colour I bought was orange because it seemed like an obvious choice at the time.

In the end is better to get them all and then let the players decide their colors from a broad palette.  ;)

If interested, you may also add some pastel colors available on MeepleSource.com: lime, lavender, salmon, turquoise, sky >:D

Thanks all for the input. It might seem like an nonsense question, but the different views shared really help making a decision.

Depends if you will use tools and/or equipment in player colors. So it's better to think about it when you will make decision.

Stands, extra expansions meeples, official tollkeepers tokens, etc...

The original edition has red, blue, green, yellow and black. The 6th player was grey. In the 2nd edition grey was changed to pink.

The "official" 7th and 8th colors in the old edition were pink and purple, in the Big Box 5. So those are the main 8 colors.

If you don't like grey, though, go with white and orange.

Hi carcie, I would suggest getting colours that allow you to take advantage of the beautiful mixed frozen meeple set as Phantoms. I use the white frozen with the base black set (but it would work well with grey or of course white) with the other base colours plus orange, pink and purple.

Hi unclewill!

An interesting idea which I did not consider thus far. That said, I am not sure whether the mat frozen or crystal clear meeples are most accurate as a phantom. What do you think? For the latter, at least black is available as well.

I use the clear meeple as phantoms for the frosty meeple sets, and frosty meeples as phantoms for the clear meeple sets.

Works perfectly, as you just need a meeple that stands out a bit so you know it's the phantom

Ha, I love it!

The frozen meeples are gorgeous, but you are limited to the 8 colours, and I would say that clear meeples are probably a better fit if you want the ‘classic’ phantom look. But those frozen meeples do look glorious on the table...

I prefer to use the frosted meeples (Cundco literally calls them "frozen" https://cundco.de/en/accessories/242/complete-meeple-set-frozen?c=36#07f92be972be6e857b3004c068bd3f86) for my Carcassonne Winter Edition, and then the clear (ice in my mind) meeples for winter phantoms.  I'm actually surprised the publishers don't sell Winter Edition with the frozen meeples by default... winter=frozen.

In common with MeepleDrone I have added Orange and White to the standard 6 colours of C2.

I chose these particularly for the increased options for colourblind players. (Among whom I include myself.)
