Title: Keeping score
Post by: RitaC on February 12, 2016, 05:54:16 PM
What are some of the things you all do to keep track of your score when it gets to be more than the scorekeeping tiles can keep up with?

We have the tiles that are 50 on one side and 100 on the other.  But with all the expansions we are overshooting the capacity.

Buy more score-tiles? That's what I did at least. You can find them at cundco.de

Another way to keep score is to use different positions with meeples. Put it on a side means another 50 points, putting it flat on its face means another 50,... That should help you, if you can memorize the positions and the points that come with them.

First off - welcome RitaC !

We still love our mega games where the score can get into the high hundreds.

In our method we use the standard score board, three printed (50/100) tiles to score up to 300 pts. When that 300 threshold is reached you replace the printed tiles with a hand marked ‘300’ point blank tile.

At that point, the three (50/100) printed tiles get recycled until you reach the next three hundred point marker, rinse and repeat  :)

One could adjust the value of the blank tiles to whatever works for them. I use a small narrow role of masking tape that I also use to mask off models for painting. I find this tacky but can be lifted without leaving residue behind. I'm sure there are other masking tapes that would also work fine.

We find this quick, easy and only uses a few tiles.

Excuse a couple of quick edits for clarity in this post.

My preferred technique is using dice to go around the score track.  I.e  first time round on the 1, 2nd time on the 2 etc.

Hi RitaC, thanks for this interesting question.

My preferred method is to use the normal 50/100 scoring tiles but obviously you can get through these pretty quickly in big games or games with lots of players. They can be bought quite cheaply from www.cundco.de though (as suggested by Valheru) and you could even download and print your own scoring tiles with some bigger numbers on them (we have some in the download section I believe) if you have some blank tiles to spare (also available from cundco). Or if you're not bothered about keeping the theme, you could use pretty much anything to represent 50 points. I once bought a big bag of wooden star tokens from meeplesource with the intention being that these could be used as 50-point tokens but you could use coins or pretty much anything really.

I'm not a big fan of using dice on the score track but a lot of people are and it works well for them as Rosco suggests. You simply change the face-up face of the dice to reflect how many times you've been round the score track.

Hope this helps.

Basically Wooden sells wooden score tokens that go under your scoring meeple. They go up to 200. I just got mine last week and can't wait to try them out!

It vary game by game and where and who's game we use.

At home, I got enough 50/100 tiles. At the café or other places, we flip the meeple on the score board upside down-ish or lay it down as a farmer to indicate it has surpassed 50.

We rarely play with more than the base game and maybe 1 expansion at best so scoring 150 is very rare.

Another fun technique developed for our world record attempt coming this March 2016 is using pen and paper to write down each score separately. That way we can see how many cities and roads where down and how many 2-tiled sized cities, 3-tiled cities etc where made during the game. :)

Check out this thread for some ideas.

We use d6 dice to track our laps on a 100 space board. Works perfectly up to scores of 699 points, then you have to roll back to the one pip face to count 700 and so on.

Those Basically Wooden scoremarkers look great!

Not wishing to hijack this thread, but I was wondering if there was ever an official scoretracker that went to a higher number like 100/200 released in the past?

For really big games I have several sets of the normal score tiles (extras bought from CundCo.de) and a set of custom 500 / 1000 tiles which I designed. See this post: http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=976.msg11179#msg11179

I created this "200" point tile, and printed it onto the "50" side of an extra set of score tiles.
This way I have 6 x 50/100 and 6 x 100/200 score tiles which is enough to keep track of the score up to 349 points (in a 6 player game).

I suppose you mean 150/200? ;)

No, I really mean 100/200. This way when you reach 150 points, you don't have to give your 50/100 tile back to the common supply.

I created these boxes and they are available in the download (http://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=246) section.

We still use the Android app for tracking score.

It has not been updated in a while, so the latest expansion may not be supported. Using it removes any chance of human arithmetic errors!
