Information from the Spielbox-Shop (http://www.spielbox-shop.de/):
spielbox 2013/5 - deutsche Ausgabe

spielbox 2013/5 - English edition
Preadvice: New mini-expansion to Carcassonne plus 1-2 add-ons to other games. You will find more information here middle of September. Publishing day of this English edition is 21st of October.
-
Wow, Spielbox has been rather productive with Carcassonne. Is this one a year?
-
I'm excited. Spielbox expansions are always interesting. They seem to create strange, yet appropriate ideas.
-
My official email from Spielbox reads like this: "Preadvise: We are very pleased to let you know that we will have 2-3 add-ons in no. 5/2013. One of them will be a new mini-expansion in cooperation with Hans im Glueck for Carcassonne! You will get more information about the name and the other add-ons in the next newsletter middle/end of September. Of course you can pre-order from now on in our webshop www.spielbox-shop.com."
I do hope that it's not a bad translation or something so that the mini-expansion really is FOR Carcassonne and not just a cooperation with Hans im Glueck for something else.
-
I can't wait to see what they come up with- plague is one of my favourites. And now I can save on shipping when I buy little buildings :)
-
...now I can save on shipping when I buy little buildings :)
I kinda wish I had waited on my little buildings now. Just got them last week.
-
I've only played the plague twice but I would say its the best mini expansion I've played yet. Hoping the new one is of a similar calibre
-
In my opinion River, King, Count, River II, School, Flier and Messages all are better than the Plague.
Those "negative" expansions like the Dragon, Tower and Plague among others have never been my favorites.
And all those small tokens doesn't look good either.
-
I have never actually played with the Plague. I think I need to have a game soon where I play all the rest of the ones I've yet to play now that I have them all.
-
Wouldn't surprise me if it's The Windrose...?
-
The Wind Roses will come to the CundCo Shop this autumn.
-
Maik (maik63de - admin at CarcF) wrote today to Barbara Nostheide - Spielbox.
He asked her about the thoughts at BGG (and now here at CarcC).
Should the Wind Roses included in the Spielbox 05 2013?
Here is her answer:
Ich glaube nicht, dass es das ist, was da steht, denn eine Ankuendigung ueber den Namen gibt es noch nirgendwo (wenn wir das nicht mal haben ...).
I don't think so that this is meant to what is written there, because an announcement about the name is still nowhere there (when we don't even have that...).

You're right... I meant to clarify I think it's the best as a mini expansion to be played with just the base game. The other minis seem to complement each other, whilst the Plague is a big game changer

I am in the same boat, CKorfmann! Many official expansions yet to try, as well as all the gold here on CarcassonneCentral..!!! :'(

Pre-ordered. Curious to find out what I'll be getting.
-
hehe - I pre-ordered mine also. ::)
-
So tempted to pre-order but I'll need to wait so I can convince my friends to grab a copy on the same order to save on postage costs
-
Am rather curious about this as well, but must hold off my pre-order until after next pay day! :-)
-
I'll wait and see what it is. I'll very likely get it, but just want to be sure.
-
Postage to USA was 6.54 EU. Not bad. Actually, it seems amazing that someone is going to get it all the way from Germany to my door for around $10.
That is what makes CundCo a real puzzle to me - the postage charges from there for a similar shipment are over 30 EU.
-
Read about this today. Took sometime this morning compiling a list of colleagues who live (across the border) in Germany, and can help me save on postage. It turns out that they are all not in today. I couldn't be bothered e-mailing them and wait for their reply; I HAD TO pre-order it immediately, so I put down my own non-German home address. (OK, the postage is not a lot more expensive; just trying to be dramatic.)
-
Cundco is indeed puzzling. I've ordered from Cundco in the past and the shipping was not bad, but last I looked the cost had gone way up. Not sure why.
-
Wouldn't surprise me if it's The Windrose...?
I think they confirmed in their newsletter that the included Carcassonne expansion it is indeed The Windroses.
-

Yep. It's Windroses. I just got an email from spielbox saying so.
-
So now there are two things left to confirm: (1) Are the tiles the same tiles as the currently-available Windrose expansion? and (2) Are there any watermarks on the tiles? Either of these will probably warrant me getting this expansion still...because I am crazy.
Edit: I've just received the email too and have asked Barbara at Spielbox directly. I'll post the answer when I receive it.

I pre-ordered as well, so I'm curious what her response will be. Of course, with the general consensus here seeming to be that there are not enough of the Wind Rose tiles, having two sets (even if they are exactly the same) might not be too bad after all.
-
Hmm, that's a good point. Should get more than one copy. I did that with all the minis and am glad I did.
-
Hi Derek,
yes this will be exactly the Windrose from the Carcassonne-on-Tour. Concerning the watermarks I have to check it. I'm not in office today and can let you know earliest tomorrow evening. But I assume it will be absoluty exactly the windroses like before from the Tour.
Best regards
Barbara
Looks like I won't be needing this item. Without the Spielbox pentagon icons, there's really no point for me.
-

Indeed, the two sets could be used together, or one could print JPutt's extra windroses and stick them to the tiles.
Part of me is hoping deep down that maybe the tiles will have different configurations, but I doubt it.

HiG facebook:
Es wird eine nahezu identische Version in der naechsten Spielbox geben, sowie die Windrose wie bisher bekannt ab Essen auch in unserem Online Shop.
Translation:
There will be a nearly identical version in the next Spielbox, as well as the Wind Roses as is previously known starting in Essen at our online shop.
-------------------------------
result:
Spielbox: nearly identical version means not the same as the well known Wind Roses which will be in the CundCo-Shop.... ;D
I think I know what HiG meant with this sentence... >:D
-
So the Spielbox Wind Rose tiles will be different after all ?
What date is Spielbox coming out
-
There will be a nearly identical version in the next Spielbox
This probably just means that it will have the Spielbox pentagon watermark, right?
-
Maybe they'll just have the Spielbox water marks on them?
-

I read on their website October 20
-
Maybe they'll just have the Spielbox water marks on them?
That would make it an instant buy for me since I specifically collect Pentagon-watermarked Carcassonne tiles. I treat them all as one hectic expansion (plus some additional Compass Rose tiles would be nice). I like how the expansion is being paired with two new Nations promo cards, a game which has yet to be released. I should know, I won the BGG contest and really want my game!
-
The German edition will be released tomorrow, the English edition on October 21st. Once I receive my copy, I will post some pictures.
-
Great Hylian87
-
Be interesting to see, thanks Hylian87.
-
I've called with Spielbox today.
The Windroses tiles looks a little bit different than the Windroses from HiG.
But the typical Spielbox Symbol is not on the tiles as a watermark.
-
Interesting. From what can be seen on the Speilbox cover, the tiles look the same (of course they could have changed them since making the cover).
Perhaps they have merely changed the 'O' on the compass to an 'E' for the english version?
-
The first members at CarcF have now the Wind Roses from Spielbox.
Here is a picture from the Spielbox WindRoses:

In short: They only marked N(orth) and S(outh), East and West got no letters.

I guess that fixes the problem of confusing English-speakers who didn't know what "O" meant.
-
In roman languages there would be E for East and O for West, so this tiles can be used in all european languages I think.
-
Ah clever - what a neat solution to the language problem!
I'm glad I ordered this now, the perfectionist in me didn't like having non-English in game text :)

Going to have to agree with you. It may be "proper" to use an E and an O for East and West, but to English eyes it is just strange. Using N/S on everything with no E/O seems to make much more sense. Ordered!
(Too bad they didn't add a watermark... :-()

The members have found out follows at CarcF:
The rule for the Spielbox Windrose is a little bit different:
HiG Windrose: 4 quarter sections for each section 1 landscape tile
Spielbox Windrose: 2 sections for each section 2 landscape tiles
-
Not positive what you mean there. Does that mean that the windrose tiles just has to go on the East or West of the compass tile, rather than in a specific quarter of the board? If so, that is definitely a rule change. It opens up the possibilities for bonus points greatly. It also means that the original tiles and the new tiles have different purposes, which is kind of cool. They can all be mixed in but must be placed differently to earn the bonus points.
-

Yes - horizontal.

Yes. ;D

We have now two versions of Windroses (I + II) and they should work fine together.
If I have the possibility to earn more bonus points that is always great.

I ordered my copy now O0
-
It opens up the possibilities for bonus points greatly.
Aren't there the same number of tiles, so same possibilities for bonus points? Or am I missing something in this.
Or is it that it just becomes easier to place the tiles in the (now) corresponding half of the board instead of a quadrant?
-
In the Spielbox version it is easier to place the quarter Windrose.
And if you have both Wind Roses, than you have more tiles to get the 3 bonus points.
-
We have now two versions of Windroses (I + II) and they should work fine together.
I don't think the differences are quite so great still to call them Windroses I & II. I'd say it's more similar to The Cult (Spielbox) vs. The Cult (RGG) where there was an extra tile in the latter. The tiles are still identical just with two letters missing from each. I feel the tiles must be different for it to become a wholly new expansion (as with The River I&II and Corn Circles I&II).
-
You are right - that is the reason. why I didn't write "Windrose I and Windrose II" I used ( ).
The Corn Circles I + II have different tiles but the same rule.
For the WindRoses (version HiG/CoT and version Spielbox) are the rules different.
CoT = Carcassonne-on-Tour
-

Personally, I consider the two versions of the cult to be different expansions. I tend to think of them as "Heretics & Shrines" and "The Cult". Certainly I wouldn't feel a full game of Mega Carc was complete without both.
I feel the same about the new version of The Wind Roses. Since there is a (small) change in both the tiles and the rules, I don't think that you could consider your collection complete without both. That's just my thoughts.
I guess the community has to make some sort of official ruling on this for the next CAR!
-
I can't speak german so... someone can post the rules in english or make a quik translate?
thanx

Here are the German Rules for the Spielbox version of the Windroses:
http://www.spielbox-magazin.de/pdf/CCS_Windrosen_de.pdf (http://www.spielbox-magazin.de/pdf/CCS_Windrosen_de.pdf)
The English rules are not online at Spielbox. The English version of the Spielbox 05 2013 will be published the first time at Spiel 2013 in Essen.
-
Just received this in the mail today. I'll try to post the English rules tomorrow, but no guarantees.
-
Carcatronn has the English Spielbox rules.

Carcatronn has the English Spielbox rules.
I sure do! I will try to scan them or type them up tomorrow. There is not much difference from the HiG version, aside from the quadrants.
-
so the only difference is that the game area is divided in N end S instead of N, S, E, W?
-
Yes, only two halves instead of four quadrants.
-
thanx :)
-
Isn't there a difference in the colour of farms as well?
Having seen pictures of the Spielbox edition, the green of the farms seems quite similar to the green of the original game (while the HIG windrose tiles have a different, darker shade of green). Could someone confirm this please?

Here is a scan of the tiles.
-
Thanks, kettlefish.
I think the difference is quite spectacular.
This is a strange thing since the dark green farm colour was rather a Spielbox-characteristic so far (e.g. the tiles of The Plague).
-
It's quite disappointing when original tiles come out and are looking worse than some of the fan-made ones.
I think it is terrible when the colours differ so much from expansion to expansion.
-
Yes, I agree. It's a shame because these colour differences can completely destroy the uniform look of the game area. :(

Didn't have time today to scan these. I will do my best tomorrow night as it has been a busy week...

I was thinking... if we combine windrose (HIG) and windrosen (spielbox) with the two way to make point, is better put one or two blue windrose tile?
-

It does not matter much. It will just be one among many other tiles. Personally I would use both, but it is your game and you play it the way you want.
-
Hello. I'm totally confused. After reading in this forums I can understand that are four versions of Wind Rose.
one distributed with Spielbox german NSOW
another distributed with Spielbox english NS
another distributed on Carcassonne on Tour, has different rules and is in what language? is this the HiG version spoken about in previous posts? :o
to clarify, I don't want an O on the tile, I prefer an E instead or nothing. what to buy and from where? I live in Europe.
-
Hello danielbrie, I suggest to buy the spielbox version (only N and S on the tiles) and to play either with the carcassonne on tour - rules (4 quadrants) or the spielbox rules (2 halves). You can buy it on the spielbox homepage http://www.spielbox.de/ .
-
nono, they are only 2... one from spielbox (N, S) with german or english rules and one from HIG (N, S, W, O) originally released in 2012 and in few days avaible on cundco.de too
-
Here's the scan, finally. thanks to all for your patience!
