Game rulesMix the labyrinths among the original tiles. When you draw one of the labyrinth tiles, you place it according to the normal rules and are allowed to put a meeple on it (also in compliance with the standard rules). The labyrinth is not a crossing; all outgoing roads are interconnected. Consequently, if you want to put a meeple on the labyrinth, any road you connect it to has to be unoccupied. The meeple then is a highwayman on all the connected roads. Both tiles have the same function and can be played with both editions.
You’ll find a rule variant for advanced players at www.carcassonne.de.

Though i like to play with roundabouts, i was hoping for more when i ordered the magazine. Let's hope the advanced players rule will bring more....
So I'm not bothered by it. The fact that they're trying to institutionalise the 'play with both editions together' is what really bugs me.
