For the last couple or three months, we have been unable to complete a game using the online server.

I am using the latest, 4.6.1.  This also occurred with the previous version, but I don't recall the version number of that.

What happens is that the connection falls offline with a "connection lost" error.  Sometimes, it comes back and you can resume play.  Other times, it just ends the game.

This has been happening when the two of us are playing here at home, and it has been happening when playing friends in another city.  It does not seem to matter who starts the game.

This has been consistent - we have not been able to finish a game online for a while.

This is the Java on my machine:
------------------------------------------
C:\Users\rfielder>java -version
java version "1.8.0_251"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_251-b08)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.251-b08, mixed mode)
---------------------------------------------

Has anyone else encountered this?

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / JCZ 4.3.0 Issues
« on: November 13, 2018, 08:26:30 AM »
Am I the only one having a problem with 4.3.0?

One three different PCs, both local games and online games.

After the computer makes a move, a red banner appears saying something about an illegal tile placement.  After that, the game is done.  Clicking the X on the red banner sometimes makes it go away, sometimes not.

In every case, the computer has made its move, but everything just stops.  My only option is to kill the game.

I am running Windows 10 with the latest Java.  Java has been updated once or twice since this issue began.

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / JCZ V4.01 Questions
« on: December 13, 2017, 11:01:20 AM »
I have noticed two other behaviours of V4.0.1 that are different than with V3.  I have not seen these documented- but I may have missed something.

First, it seems to have a timeout.  If I leave it running but with no game active, it goes away after a while. Doies JCZ have a timer that closes the application after a given period of time?  If so, do we have any control over this?

Second, when you ended a game, you had the option of clicking a button that said "Play again".  With V3, that took you to the game setup screen, with the same players and the same options selected.  With V4, you are taken to the same screen, but everything is cleared - no players, no options selected.

Is this intention?  Do we have any control over this?  I often play against the computer, and when  I click "Play Again", I would like the same game to be ready to start.

I am getting the red banner with "Connection Lost" text when playing a local game against the computer.

Why is this happening?  I am not connected to anything - i am only playing a local game.

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / Point Counting Bug
« on: December 09, 2017, 09:38:50 AM »
Attached are two screen captures - one before a road is placed, and one after the road is place.

The road gave green two more cities on the farm.  However, the points went up by 9 for green, from 147 to 156.  As far as I can see, the points should have increased by 6.

In the first capture, I used a blue arrow to show where the road was going to be placed, and black arrows to indicate the two cities that green can then count.

This is with 4.0.1.  However, I have noticed this in the past with the last version of V3 as well.

Am I missing something?  Or is JCZ miscounting?

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / Request - full screen mode
« on: January 02, 2016, 03:54:01 AM »
A request - could JCZ support a full screen mode?

This would be similar to the full screen mode many browsers support.  It would eliminate all borders, including that at the top, and allow the playing surface to go to the edge of the screen.  Scores, etc, would remain where they are.

This would be an advantage when playing on smaller or lower resolution screen.

thanks!

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / JCZ 3.3.1 and The Tower
« on: October 20, 2015, 07:07:17 AM »
Sorry if this has been reported before.  I searched, but did not find anything.

When playing JCZ 3.3.1 against the AI, using The Tower expansion, the AI is doing some very weird stuff.

First, it is playing tower tiles well, but it very seldom takes my meeples.  In other words, it is wasting tiles.

Second, it will play a tower tile and remove it's own meeple.  This happens in situations where there is no advantage in taking your own man back.  Just happened in a game, and the AI removed it's meeple from a city that it was going to win.

Anyone else seen this behaviour?

JCloisterZone FAQ, Suggestions & Bug Reports / Enhancement Suggestion

Just a suggestion - allow customizing the meeple colours.

Or even texture - allow tartan meeples!

General / Question about this area...
« on: June 07, 2015, 12:33:19 PM »
The description for this area is:

"Feel free to talk about anything Carcassonne-related or general in nature"

Does the "or general in nature" mean that we can post stuff that it totally unrelated to Carcassonne?

If not, is there a place for such content?

In both JCZ 3.1.1 and 3.2.0, you can rotate the board using the "/" (forward slash) key.

This works well, and allows you to fit the shape of the playing area to the shape of your monitor.

When you rotate the board, the meeples also rotate, so that they are always standing upright.

However, the fairy and the dragon do not rotate.  They look weird laying on their side or upside down.

Can these pieces also rotate with the board?

Thanks!

In 3.2.0, the Undo has changed.  There are more actions that can be undone.  This was a very good change.

Can this go a little bit further?  The scenario:
- place a tile
- place a meeple

leaves you with the ability to undo the meeple placement.

I would like to suggest that you then be allowed to also under the tile placement.  In other words, the first Ctrl-Z would undo the meeple placement, and a second Ctrl-Z would undo the tile placement.

Can this be done?

What do others think?

Just ran into another minor bug.

Playing with just the Princess and Dragon expansion, using 3.2.0.

Placed a tile with a portal.  Placed a meeple elsewhere.  Then had second thoughts, and used Ctrl-Z to under the meeple placement.

Now, I can only place the meeple on the tile played.  After the Undo, it stopped recognizing that the tile had a portal, so I can no longer portal to any valid location.

Leagues (including expansion leagues) / JCZ Game Hosting Issue
« on: March 08, 2015, 07:44:00 AM »
For today's game with jungleboy, I tried to host the game by running JCZ 3.1.1 on my server.

Once again, my opponent could not connect.  I verified that this works by logging in from work earlier this week.

I also verified it works this morning, by logging into the server using a PC that is outside my network.  I had to log into the same IP address as jungleboy.  It worked.

jungleboy is the second remove user who has been unable to connect to my server.  In both cases, these users were in Europe, if memory serves me correctly.

The server I am using is my home server, used for media and system backups.  It is a P4 system with 4Gb RAM and about 16Tb disk space running Windows Home Server V1.

Do we have any networking gurus here who could suggest why this might be happening?

If anyone else has the time and would like to try accessing my server, please PM me and I will send you the IP address.
