About C3 expansions
« on: November 20, 2022, 11:09:54 AM »
So, after completing my C1 collection and almost finishing C2 (missing the first 6 Spiel tiles), quite reluctantly I started my C3 collection. I got the C3 versions of Festival and Castles in Germany and was wondering whether we will see other C2 mini expansions "converted". As far as I know there are only 4 that could see the upgrade:
- Watchtowers
- Fruit-bearing Trees
- Barber Surgeons
- Tollkeepers
Do we know if there are plans for those? And where are the big expansions?

The 2021/2022 Big Box has some C3 expansions included.

Other major expansions will get replaced with C3 versions when inventory of C2 is depleted.

Conversion of minor expansions will depend on sales forecasts when inventories are depleted.

On Nov 13, Kevin Hornschemeier made a post on the BGG forum about being “In a pickle with 2nd and 3rd edition”.

His second paragraph in his post started with: “We opened the base game a few days ago. 2nd edition as expected, had a great time playing it. Tonight we opened expansion #1 and it's 3rd edition artwork. I understand you can still play the game even if the artwork doesn't match, however not even the back of the tiles matches (which does seem to affect the game).”

Our neighborhood group of four players doesn't care if the C2 and C3 tiles won’t match on the fronts of the tiles, but is it true that the Backs of the Tiles are also different?
Totally addicted to this game

It’s the Big Box 2021 that has different backs and it’s just a slight discoloration. Well within the range of the tile backs with other expansions. Some people just don’t realize that the color of tiles (front and back) differ print run to print run.

Plus, it felt like the person on BGG assumed the difference in colour of the backs was directly related to the artwork. Once they were seeing C2 and C3, all differences seemed to be assumed to be related to that.

As Whaleyland said, there can be differences in the tile backs in terms of colour, but this has been seem before within artstyle releases. Different print runs will get that.
And sometimes it might be a bigger difference, but that doesn't mean the whole artwork is incompatible.
If it is really really bad, it can also be a misprint.

I wonder how they would feel about the 50 shades of green that exist in the game. This is more prominent in C1, but within C2&C3 it can also be seen

My C2 Exp. 5 has lighter backs and more yellowish greens than other C2 expansions... I use a tower to draw tiles and my fellow players haven't noticed a great difference during the game, if any. Similar to using a bag, the tower may help those differences go undetected.
