Suggestion: Timer each turn.
« on: November 25, 2015, 04:55:55 AM »
Is it possible to add a timer for each turn for fast paced gaming?

5 seconds a turn would be an interesting game to try out.

What happens after the timer, well there are a few ideas. One idea is, after the timer ends, each consecutive second you loose 1 point.

Post replies with what you think and / or if this idea could be improved. Thanks in advance.

Because this is often requested feature, I would probably give it priority.

I like the idea, although the in-game timer seems like it could be quite useful if there were options to specify what happens when a players time runs out.

What happens after the timer, well there are a few ideas. One idea is, after the timer ends, each consecutive second you loose 1 point.

This seems a bit harsh! Perhaps just discarding the tile (or putting it back in the bag) and missing a turn is the best solution.

The problem with that solution  was adressed by farin earlier: consider drawing for example the CCCC from basegame, only been able to add it to an opponent city. You might prefer the chance to draw it later again, when you have a city of your own to attach it to.

A partial solution would be that if there is only one legal place to put the tile, then it is automatically put there if the timer runs out. But in your scenario there could be more than one legal placement in the opponent's city.

In a real game, if moves were timed, what would you do?  You would end up just placing it anywhere.   So how about if the timer runs out the tile is placed in a randomly selected position on the board (one that is a legal placement obviously).
Just lay the damn tile!

Or maybe the next player could get to place it as well as their own tile. :@

Lots to think about!

I quite like Rosco's solution. But it might be a quite mean one, too. >:D

You could lose one more point every time you get to the time limit set.
For example: if you have 20 seconds to enter the tile, once they expired the 20 seconds you lose a point and you again 20 seconds, 20 seconds expired you lose 2 points and you again 20 seconds, 20 seconds expired you lose 3 points and you have 20 seconds again, etc. etc.
A knight is sworn to valour.
His heart knows only virtue.
His blade defends the helpless.
His might upholds the weak.
His word speaks only truth.
His wrath undoes the wicked.

I like this idea. Well done partner!

I still think my idea is most comparable to a real game.  Those times when your wife says "just lay the damn tile" and you do so that she doesn't just give up on the game and you end up placing it in the worst place possible because you felt rushed!

I'd only be happy if there was a rage-quit / table-flip option implemented  :(y)

Well, you can quit the game whilst others are still playing. Perhaps what's missing is a sliding scale to determine the amount of rage involved in your departure?

I think an option to 'flip the table ' would be awesome
