Scott - I have been hearing about Snakes and Lattes for a long time, but have not got there yet.

There is also the Comic Book Warehouse, who has a gaming night every Monday evening.  We have not made it there, either.  I know that one of the owners likes Carcassonne, but he says that not many others play it.

Are there any Canadian events that includes Carcassonne?

We are still using Carcassonne Scoreboard, but it does not know about River II and the pig heard.   Guess we will have to experiment with others to see who can provide a complete scoring solution.

I did try to contact the author of Scoreboard, but have not received a response.   Given the app's age, I suspect it is a sunset product.....

BT - I found more than one.   The catch is the price - $26US for something that was shipped free with the magazine, and can be hand from Amazon.com for a fraction of the price IF YOU LIVE IN THE USA.

Since I live in Canada, the amazon.com option is not available.  :(

MrNumbers - thanks, but I am in Canada.  There are three different ones on Amazon.com, and ALL say that they will not ship to Canada.

Found one on eBay, but they want $17 plus shipping.

The Marketplace / How to get out of print tiles.....
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:05:30 AM »
Just an idea - I see that the Carcassonne Shoppe sells blank tiles.

I wonder if it is possible for someone with an out of print set of tiles to scan the tiles, then print onto a label that can be put onto the blank tiles?

I don't know if this will violate any laws, since the expansions are out of print.  Also, I would prefer to buy them IF I CAN FIND THEM!!!!

However, if there is zero supply, would this approach be an acceptable alternative?  Or should this be avoided on moral grounds - keeping in mind I am only referring to items that are out of print and no longer available?

The Marketplace / WTB: GQ #11 Expansion

I would like to pick up a copy of the Gaming Quarterly #11 expansion.

Mostly because of the River end piece with a road!  That would really help prevent some of the huge farms we are running into.

The other pieces look good as well.  The more tiles, the better!  Then again, we have only the first four expansions plus all the Minis and the Festival, so we are far from having every expansion.....

I have now purchased from the Carcassonne Shop, and find this to be a good place to spend my $$$.  The vendor is very quick to reply, and provides excellent service.

Just waiting for some details, and will likely place another order in the near future.

I find using the scoring app on a table is very good.  That is how we do it for every game now.

I checked the Google Play store, and there are other Carcassonne scoring apps that claim to know about all expansion sets.  It is worth a look, if you have an Android phone or tablet.

Official Rules / Rules Discrepancy Frustrations
« on: March 17, 2014, 09:06:49 AM »
This past weekend, we visited friends who enjoy Carcassonne.  They had one expansion we did not have - The Tower.

After playing with it, we purchased a copy of The Tower yesteday (Sunday Mar 16, 2014).  The one we purchased is brand new, and is from Z-Man.

Even though this appears to be the newest edition of the game, the rules included with The Tower do not agree with some very major points in the CAR.  Specifically, if one is allowed to remove a meeple from the top of a tower - the printed rules say NO but the CAR says YES.

My frustration comes partly from finding such discrepancies even with products that are brand new and should have the latest and greatest included.

However - and even more importantly - my greatest frustration comes from trying to explain why these rules should not be followed, and explain why the CAR should be the "bible".

How do others deal with this?  What is the justification for ignoring the printed rules?  In other words - how do you deal with such situations?

Thanks in advance!

We don't have the Messages or the Robbers, so I don't know.

For scoring, we use the Android app on a table or a smart phone.  Works very well, and eliminates the chance of arithmetic errors.

General / Android Scoring Application
« on: March 05, 2014, 07:17:17 PM »
I did a search for the Carcassonne Scoreboard, and did not find any references in previous messages.

Is anyone using this Android application for scoring?  We have been using it for a while, and it works very well.  It even knows about expansion packs, and adjusts itself appropriately.

And, it is free....always a good thing!  Works well on a tablet or a smartphone.  Unfortunately, no iOS version, so Apple products are not included.

The Marketplace / Wanted - The River, The River II
« on: February 28, 2014, 01:54:30 PM »
I would like to get copies of both The River, and The River II.

Friends purchased an older copy of Carcassonne that did not have The River.  Have not been able to find it as a standalone product, but if possible would like to get a copy for them.

We have The River, but I would like to get The River II.   Again, have not been able to find anyone selling it.  Would like to get a copy.  If we get this, we will give our copy of The River to our friends.

Anyone have either of these for sale, or know where one can get a copy?

Not sure if it shows, but I am in Canada.

Thanks in advance!
