This is the configuration of River I, but a few details are different (sheep, vines, watermark). It therefore seems logical to me to differentiate them.

+1 to this. There's more to a tile/ expansion than simply the tile configurations, especially when some of those tiles include elements that are unique to that version of that expansion, such as River 3 vs. River 1.

Why do they always include the "we won't make cross-expansion rules" clause and then answer our rule questions about them anyway?  ???

Do they? My impression is that MeepleDrone is still waiting for many, many, MANY pages of answers from them...

My girlfriend and I are also attending the Spiel on Saturday and Sunday and would love to meet fellow Carcassonne fans for the first time.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Please can you post this with the price you'd like to sell it for rather than asking for bids via PM. It gets unnecessarily messy and complicated if things go wrong otherwise.

Congratulations Leven, and to everyone else who took part no matter where you finished. :(y)

I plan to restructure things a little before our next tournament in an attempt to ensure that it really is only CarcC players who take part. I don't intend to be awkward about it, but it kind of defeats the purpose otherwise.

Thanks for that table Leven; it will come in very handy!

Another two pieces added to the collection! Both italian versions.

Well done! South Seas was the first spin-off I bought and it remains my favourite and most played. :)

The English version is out in the UK. Not sure if @danisthirty , @Decar or @Rich_The_Fish have opened theirs to check the rules?

My copy is currently with Rich. Not sure if he or Tom have opened theirs?

Anything Else / Re: Happy Birthday

Today is the birthday of someone for whom none of us would be here discussing Carcassonne without: the man who started it all - Klaus-Jürgen Wrede! :)

For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting him (he's always genuinely happy to meet fans of his games), in person he is friendly, kind, humble and one of the most genuine and down to earth people I've ever met. And I'm really looking forward to meeting him again later this year.

Wishing you the happiest of happy birthdays Klaus-Jürgen, and thanks so much for everything you do! :(y)

...I think the mistake was having 3 core boxes rather than 2.  >:D

All added to the fun of separating everything out after the game had finished! :-\

Also I love the Orero Meeple - Great stuff MMike :D

I must confess, I had a scan through the pictures before reading the main text and when I saw those meeples thought "Wow! That looks just like an Oreo!"

I was most impressed when I realised that that's what they're supposed to be! :D :(y)

I think the worst game I played was at a meetup in Rugby.  It was still fun, playing with people, but we played with 3 base games and a mixture of mini fan-expansions.  It took about 3 hours to play as there were about 7 players.  Basically it just took too long for me, a real marathon with lots of down time.  I think it might have been better to play 4 or 5 games with groups in the same time.  On the other hand I have a very vivid memory of all being sat around the massive table and explaining the rules of the fan expansions as they came up. So as much as I like to complain about it, it was still a great experience :D

As games of Carcassonne go, for sure this wasn't a great one. I don't remember the time between turns seeming excessive, so was surprised we managed to burn so much time playing it and would rather we'd broken into perhaps a 4 and a 3 and played some smaller games instead. From my perspective it was still enjoyable though, and there was a good atmosphere around the table which was a good reminder that it was all a bit of fun and great community building.

I usually have 3 or 4 games going round my head that feel like they're my worst game ever. Generally it's the near losses that I regret most though, especially if the loss was down to a mistake on my part rather than merely bad luck. It's always the "what ifs...", the "should haves" and the "could haves" that I dwell on the most.

This said, I will occasionally have games where I feel pretty much powerless and can't seem to make any kind of difference to the outcome of the game regardless of whatever I try to do. I recently had a game like this against my good friend Ven Gee Lim (3 times UK Carcassonne champion) who plays on BGA as "ted the notty bear". We happened to meet in round 7 of one of BGA's weekly Swiss-style tournaments and both of us were unbeaten at that point. I won't pretend that a loss against Ven Gee was unexpected, but we've played a lot and are usually quite evenly matched so I wasn't expecting our game to go quite as badly as it did! BGA users can watch a replay of our game here: .

(Ven Gee went on to win the tournament with a perfect record of 8 wins from 8 games while I managed 2nd with 7 out of 8 wins. Another former UK champion and member of the UK Carcassonne team - @JackFace - finished in third to make this one of the most successful BGA tournaments for UK players ever!)

I've never played any of the other version of Love Letter, but understand they often have slightly different rules (or better said, other effects on the cards)?
I have the standard old edition, and have played the deluxe one, but have recently learned from @Scott that the new edition has new characters again!

I've not played enough of the original edition to compare how it stacks up against Batman Love Letter, but I guess the principle mechanics should at least be consistent. I know there are quite a few different versions now (although I can't think of any of them except for Simpsons Love Letter which I can find no evidence of actually existing and am starting to think I may have played it in a dream), but I loved the idea that MMike shared on Instagram recently about a Carcassonne themed version! :o
