General / Re: Completionism Poll #12 - Phantom Boxes
« on: April 22, 2016, 03:40:02 PM »
I really only need one but when I was searching for it they were all priced at $15-20 each on ebay. I found a listing (it's still active for those interested) of a guy in Germany selling all six for $30. Well, I intended to give some away to friends once they arrived but all six of them do look rather nice up on the shelf so I'll probably keep them all.  ::)

They did not however tell me which expansions, I'm assuming it going to be 3 and 4, and they were unable to tell me when, except that it was sometime this year.

Iirc it's going to be 3 and 5, they're skipping the Tower expansion with the new artwork.

Anything Else / Re: Questions about Trees
« on: April 15, 2016, 08:20:21 PM »
Now that it's been determined to be a palm tree lets get down to the juicy facts. Palm trees aren't really trees, they're grasses. The "bark" of the palm tree isn't bark, it's dead leaves. And that concludes what I remember from by bio 2 course. Stay tuned next time when we learn how long some tarantulas can live without food.

General / Re: Favouritism Poll #5 : Start Tile
« on: April 15, 2016, 08:05:37 PM »
This is a tough one. I chose the spring as I usually play two player and the river makes a great starting place as it comes with the base game.

When playing with more than two players we like to start with the carcassonne town tile (the count) and then start with two, or three depending on player count, spring tiles. This makes for an interesting play as sometimes you get two really short rivers and one super long river.

As for the school, we currently play with it in game. We place all the left tile of the school pieces in the draw bag and set all the right tiles to the side of the table. When a school tile is drawn the player gets the other half of it to play. I'm currently designing proxy tiles to print on blank tiles so I can pile all of the draw tiles on the table instead of inside a bag. Those blue bags just aren't big enough to get an efficient mix when playing a large game.

I've never played with the wheel of time so I don't have much of an opinion on that.

The Marketplace / Re: Ordering online at Cundco (HiG)
« on: April 12, 2016, 02:58:50 PM »
Overall I'm very happy with Cundco but I've only ordered two times from them. The first package took 15 work days to reach my house in the USA and arrived as seen in the photo below. The contents were shaken up but there was no water damage and only one box was slightly smashed. One school tile has the meeple shape embossed into it from the weight the courier stacked on top of my box and one winter promo tile has a notch on the corner but is still playable. Cundco did include a free plush meeple and cloth bag so I was happy and found no need to contact them. Sometimes you need to take a step back and realize that you're using a hunk of metal and man-made materials to send a bunch of electrons to the other side of the globe where a person can interpret it and then mail you a box over to your house, 7000 km away, and it all takes less than a month to complete. It's amazing if you ask me. The second purchase arrived in 12 working days and there was no issue.

I forgot to include that I use PayPal to pay for the purchases, they usually clear within a few minutes of the transaction. I've never had to contact them. Their selection is great, I just wish they had Big Box 5 on their site.

Haha - well don't get into trouble on our account.

At least you didn't tell your boss you were measuring your wood  :-[ :-[
That's why they don't let me near the machinery any more  :@

It's a relaxed work environment, but not that relaxed. haha

I've attached a pdf of my sheet so far. It was difficult to get it to print without having a lot of white space. I'm sure there are components that I'm missing, suggestions to complete the list are welcomed.

Excellent work! Thank you Neil, seeing the variance in dice is quite alarming.  I have to ask: Did you get any strange looks from your co-workers?

The Star Wars game was the most shocking because they're plastic dice. I may take them back and measure all sides to determine a standard deviation of the six dice. I stayed after my shift to measure everything so I didn't bother anyone. My boss came up and asked what I was doing and I explained it to her, she remembered playing the game in college. I reassured her that I was doing this on my own time. She said I couldn't be in the lab when I'm not on the clock, gave me a wink, and that's how I was paid an hour of overtime to measure game pieces.

Hi Neil,
thank you very much for this update. The excel file is a very good idea. Is it possible for you to make a pdf ore jpg file for it? Then you can upload it as an attachment here.

Yes, I can do both. It may take a day or two before I get around to cleaning up all the text but I'll upload it soon.

I took a bunch of components to work today to measure them. I've organized the data to match kettlefish's request but I also have an excel file full of all the current data I could upload. All the lengths were measured with a caliper and mass was measured on a balance, both tools were calibrated two months ago. When I find my pair of large calipers I'll be able to measure larger components but right now I'm limited to 150mm. Also, soft components such as paper and cloth are not exact dimensions because they're difficult to measure, this also includes the mini box because I didn't think to unfold the box.

The Marketplace / Re: spielbox - available: The Plague and The Tunnels
« on: April 06, 2016, 04:29:24 PM »
Thank you!! ;D I already owned The Plague, but I never had the heart to pay $50 for the 4 tiles in The Tunnels. Restraint has paid off this time... now to continue restraining from purchasing the Essen 14 and 15 tiles at crazy prices.

Last year I purchased 4 of them from CundCo and I received 4 different colored bags, but got two red plastic meeples instead of red and yellow. Flash forward to CundCo's Easter event and I order 4 more bags thinking "surely I'll get a yellow one this time..." Now I have doubles of the bags and meeples except yellow, because I didn't get a yellow meeple this time either. And now you guys are showing me black and grey ones.  :o
