If your family love cats, then you can also consider Calico.

It plays like Cascadia.

Cascadia, unlike Carcassonne, you place the tiles to form your own region.
Isle of Cats, but it is harder than Carcassonne.

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/336929/land-vs-sea

Upon surfing Facebook, I saw a second-hand Land vs Sea with the description: Hexagonal Carcassonne.

This description made me watch the gameplay on YouTube. This board game seems interesting.

Also, there is a video comparing Carcassonne with Land vs Sea.

Strategy Guide / Re: Opening Traps
« on: December 20, 2021, 08:50:17 PM »
The first section in Chapter 8: Advanced Strategy in The Book of Carcassonne is "The Art of the Trap".

The book also talks about some complex strategies to avoid traps, and I do know of two expansions that are good for undoing traps: The Abbey tile which is a complete 4 sided trap removal, and the Halflings that alter the 4 sided trap into a 2 sided trap.

Are there any other expansions that help to defend against traps?
Expansions that allow the removal of Meeples like Princess and Dragon, The Tower, The 10/15 Anniversary, etc.

Quizzes, Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Circular River Town
« on: December 20, 2021, 08:38:14 PM »
How cool and completely heretic! Circular rivers are a no-no in River 2 rules!

+1 merit from me. ;)

Imagine having a River-River-River-River tile, I could make a double loop river with it. Double the heresy! >:D

j/k

Maybe next time I should use River I insteads.

Took me a while to make time to build my circular river, but here it is:

This is the largest area I can enclose with the mix of River tiles that I have.

As a bonus, the 6x6 area inside the river, which uses only tiles from Princess & Dragon plus 3 German Castles, is a torus: the tile edges at the top match the bottom and the tile edges on the left match the right.  So, if you remove the river, you can move the topmost row to the bottom, or the rightmost column to the left!  (I had to include an odd number of German Castle tiles to compensate for the fact that there are an odd number of city and road edges in the P&D tiles.

This was a lot of fun.  I think it makes a quick & fun solitaire game: build a circular river and then draw tiles and place them inside the river.  Your score is the number of tiles placed.

Anyway, thanks a lot for posting!
Amazing River Loop and cool idea for the game!

+1 Merit from me

Quizzes, Puzzles and Challenges / Circular River Town

Upon seeing the double-tile river of the 20th Anniversary Carcassonne, I have come up with the idea of making a circular river.

Now, with the help of River II tiles, I have created the Circular River Town!

Feel free to create your Circular River Town and post them here ;D

General / The frame
« on: December 15, 2021, 09:23:17 AM »
When we buy a Carcassonne game, it comes with the frames that contains the tiles.

Do you keep the frames or throw them away?
Can you think of any way to use the frame?

Quizzes, Puzzles and Challenges / Re: Can you survive the River?

I liked the idea, so tried it immediately, but…

Having the 20th anniversary river only, it is quite impossible to survive tile placement of the river alone due to its many tiles. Any advice on how to modify the river (fewer tiles?), so I can give it a proper try with fair chances?

Having attempted Carcassolo several times in regular mode, and not being able to beat my high score of 70 points, a new challenge is more than welcome! Thanks
Maybe add one or two more meeples to each colour so that you can have a total of 15 / 18 meeples,
or add one more colour so that you can have total of 16 meeples to be placed on the features,
or allow the use of abbot?

Quizzes, Puzzles and Challenges / Can you survive the River?

So I have recently tried the Carcassonne Solo Variant, and I have come up with a challenge for you all!

Using the setup in the Solo Variant (3 colours, each with 5 meeple, assigning one meeple to the score board), add in the River I and/or River II expansion and let the River Tiles go first.

See how many point can you get!

P.S. I am too lazy to take my Car I and Car II out, so I used the Winter Edition.
