Title: Carcassonne Central: Advent Quiz MMXXII
Post by: Meepledrone on November 29, 2022, 11:09:03 AM
Hi all,

For those unaware of what it is really going on, I will just break it for you: Christmas is coming!!! Again... So does Winter... at least in the Northern Hemisphere!

In preparation of the coming events, here at Carcassonne Central, a lot is happening behind the scenes again. The Meeple Council is in session discussing whether phantoms should be allowed to be reinstated as acrobats...

This is just a smoke screen, because the real agenda for today is...

The Advent Calendar Quiz MMXXII

Stay tuned, because on December 1st you have a date... Ahem... a date with FATE DESTINY 'S CHILD!

Ready or not, the clock is ticking!

It would be nice to put the previous Carcassonne Central Advents Quizes on WICA in an interactive format, but the Quiz MediaWiki extension has not yet been installed. https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=5511.0

Quote
:red-meeple: Between the 1st and 24th December I will post a small Carcassonne scoring question each day (at a random time), to which the answer will be points scored by one or more players according to the question. Each question will be presented by a member of the Meeple Council, who will indicate the number of expansions but will not participate as a meeple in the scenario itself. Check the number of the space each of them occupies on the scoreboard above:
- Gingerbread Man     1 expansion
- Snowman2 expansions
- Santa Claus3 expansions
- Danisthirty4 expansions
- The Grinch5 expansions (or more, of course :o)

:yellow-meeple: When you know the answer, don't post it on this thread! :-X Because then everyone will know, and we don't want that. Instead, send Meepledrone a PM including the question number and your answer for that day. He won't respond to your PM (please don't be offended), but if you get the answer correct you will win one or more quiz points depending on how many others have answered it correctly before you:
- 1st correct answer5 points
- 2nd correct answer4 points
- 3rd correct answer3 points
- 4th correct answer2 points
- All subsequent correct answers   1 point

:green-meeple: There's no cut-off date for any particular questions so don't despair if you miss any. You can even answer all 24 questions on Christmas eve if you want, but don't expect to score big overall...

:blue-meeple: Once Christmas and Boxing Day are behind us, the correct answers will be posted – one at a time – along with who won the big points (or indeed any points) and total scores per participant. This is where it gets really fun! :o :(y)

:black-meeple: The overall winner will be the person with the most points at the end of the quiz, but there is likely to be a small prize for everyone who answers all questions regardless of whether they manage to answer any of them correctly. It will be a surprise. O:-)

Any questions, please ask now. Otherwise, you can expect question 1 of 24 sometime on December 1st! O0

- The Grinch: That will never happen... I will sell him in parts on eBay first! >:D

Question #1: The Gingerbread Man wants you to help him score this end-game scenario. How many points will each player score?

Thanks @Snearone !

The issue is that this scenario provides all the info about the bets placed. In a real game, each player has to make a blind decision by remembering what bets where placed... So crazy!!!

Which Crop circle action was choosen by Danisthirty?
Title: Re: Carcassonne Central: Advent Quiz MMXXII
Post by: Snearone on December 04, 2022, 04:04:15 AM
Which Crop circle action was choosen by Danisthirty?

This one is also very misleading regarding building by the lake, as on Cundco page it states "You can use it as a normal tile, as an additional tile for the 1st expansion Inns and Cathedrals, where it can be used as an inn, and/or as an additional tile for the mini-expansion The Crop Circles." so it is not like those tiles from exp 8 which actually have inns, and when playing with exp 2 there is no choice, they are inns, in this case you can choose if white house acts like an inn or not, so when playing with exp1+mini7 you can chose to have only crop circle mechanic, the "and/or" is the key in this case. Same statement is on WICA but on the same page in special features section it sound like there is no choice, which is wrong.
So in quiz question it can be used in four ways, two of which will have the same outcome, other two will be different.

Yes They are, but source of them is cundco. Which used @Snearone for "rules" for this tile. Because as they wrote, there are no special rules for this (Ukraine) tile.

Looking at the introduction of the quiz, we are informed about the number of expansions to look for:
Quote
Each question will be presented by a member of the Meeple Council, who will indicate the number of expansions but will not participate as a meeple in the scenario itself. Check the number of the space each of them occupy on the scoreboard above:
- Gingerbread Man     1 expansion
- Snowman2 expansions
- Santa Claus3 expansions
- Danisthirty4 expansions
- The Grinch5 expansions (or more, of course :o)

From this, I've been looking for the correct number of expansions, and have drawn my conclusions from there :)

Which needs to be corrected a little bit, as it contradicts itself.

So if we consider Ukraine Promo as an expansions, we have it itself, exp1, exp8 and The Tunnels, by this there are indeed four expansions, no room for mini7, but it still it is not clear if that promo tile acts as a normal tile, or as a tile with an inn, it can be both.

Yep, I counted the inn on the tile in the top right as the 4th expansion in this scenario
- Tunnels
- B,C&B
- Ukraine tile
- I&C

We'll find out eventually if I was right with this, or completely wrong   :o

When I send my answers to Meepledrone, I explain the logic behind them so that he can see how I arrived at my answer.
For questions with the wagon there is disclaimer to state which rules are being used, even though tiles are C2, we still can apply C1 rules.
For the promo it was not specified, and as using a house as an inn is a possibility (not a necessity), so the lack of specifying that special features are used, can cause them to be absent in this scenario.
Or simply this question will have two correct answers, and WICA will gain another clarification of the rules  ^-^

- Meepledrone: (thinking to himself) The inn in the scenario must mean something... ???
It was put there just so Dan could have been used for that question right? :D

It is impossible to have a Base game monastery and a German monastery in the same game. The official rules do not allow this.

That's a good point, Meepledrone, did the Grinch fool you? Anyway, you may have a "standard" monastery from another major expansion mixed with German monasteries, so it's still possible to have this scenario  :yellow-meeple:

- Meepledrone: And here you can admire the latest Spiel Promo tile from 2022.
- His Meeple Highness: Delightful!!!
- Entourage: Ohhhhh!
- The Grinch: It will be one of the prizes for our disgusting winner this year.
- His Meeple Highness: (taking a closer look) Is it C2 or C3?

- His Meeple Highness: Oh! I see... (staring back at His entourage)
- Entourage: (shivering in fear)  :o
- His Meeple Highness: We would need of your services right away.
- Meepledrone: Most certainly...
- The Grinch: (interrupting) What is it?
- His Meeple Highness: Our dearest royal travel tapestry has suffered a terrible accident.
- Entourage: Uhhhhh!
- Meepledrone: Let me know how we...
- The Grinch: My minion will assist you in whatever You may need, Most Gracious Meepleness!
- His Meeple Highness: We would be quite generous to those coming in our aid.
- The Grinch: I'll accept any presents and privileges that may derive from my humble services.
- Meepledrone: :o
- The Grinch: Shoo! shoo! See to it immediately!
- The Grinch: Sire! My whip is also at your service. Punishment is my humble middle name....

- Pixie: Was does today's timesheet say? Any howling?
- Flooxie: Nope! Just "spread contempt and make the Red Farmer suffer..."
- Pixie: It's a pity we had to go outdoors...
- Flooxie: Nah! I didn't want to rewatch Meeplebusters again! Those wooden meeples really give me the creeps...

- The Grinch: Release us or something really bad will happen to you.
- Grim Mike: It is impossible to escape. You will be soon dragon food...
- The Grinch: I'm starting to hate that rules supplement.

- The Grinch: Because I could gnaw on your wooden bones for this.
- The Grinch: (shouting) What did you do to the phantoms?
- Grim Mike: You will know soon enough... >:D
- Grim Mike: Guards, tie them up really tight... and bring the dragons!

- Fortune Teller: Caller ID? What's that? :o
- Fortune Teller: Ahem! Yes... I'm afraid that is not possible...
- Fortune Teller: Well,... a bit of a pickle!
- Fortune Teller: We can't...  we are waiting for our execution.
- Fortune Teller: Yes, of course!... Location sent...
- Fortune Teller: Thank you, your majesty!
- Grim Mike: Drop that phone! >:(
- Fortune Teller: Sorry, I thought it was on vibration mode.
- Grim Mike: Who didn't frisk her? >:(
- Fortune Teller: Sorry for the interruption... Please continue.
- Pixie: (to Flooxie) Should we leave know?
- Flooxie: Come on! And miss all the fun?
- Grim Mike: Where are those lazy dragons? Hurry up!

- His Meeple Highness: (storming in) Stop whatever you are doing or my Mega-Mecha-Phantoms will crush you!!!
- His Meeple Highness: All this disgusting display looks rather invalid and off-the-grid...
- Grim Mike: (with a reverence) Your Majesty! What an unexpected surprise!
- His Meeple Highness: We demand an explanation...
- Grim Mike: It is very simple, Your Grace!
- Grim Mike: First, turning the phantoms into ghosts!
- Grim Mike: Second, getting rid of this annoying Meeple Council...
- Fortune Teller: What are you going to call me?
- Grim Mike: ...and this meddling milquetoast Fortune Teller...
- Grim Mike: Third, take on the world!!!
- Pixie: (cheering) Yeah!
- Flooxie: (cheering) Go evil go!
- His Meeple Highness: (staring at them) Not now!
- Flooxie: Not now?
- Pixie: (confused) But that was our cue...
- His Meeple Highness: This taking over the world ends here and now!

The End is Nigh - Part 3 (This episode starts here (https://www.carcassonnecentral.com/community/index.php?topic=6182.msg89753#msg89753))

- His Meeple Highness: Yes! This taking over the world ends here and now!
- Grim Mike: (looking down) But I...
- His Meeple Highness: No buts!
- Fortune Teller: Your Majesty, he wanted to create a new major expansion, also the means chosen were not the best ones!... To say the least...
- Flooxie: But we love the new cemeteries... So cozy! ^-^
- Pixie: ... and what about the haunted castles?
- Flooxie: So cool! ;)
- Pixie: Now we have a purpose... Phantoms have been thrown into oblivion in C2...
- Flooxie: ... and C3 doesn't seem to change the statu quo.
- Pixie: Only some hardcore fans remembered us...
- Flooxie: But we cannot turn back into phantoms now...
- Pixie: Please...
- Flooxie: He is only this mean from dusk to dawn!
- His Meeple Highness: OK... But We have one condition.
- His Meeple Highness: Expansion 11 will be Ghosts, Castles & Cemeteries...
- His Meeple Highness: But with the same elements you will also have to work as a cooperative spin-off.
- The Grinch: Cooperative? Are we cazy or...? (shutting down slowly)
- His Meeple Highness: (staring furiously at The Grich) Let's name it Mists over Carcassonne.
- Everyone: Hurray!!!! Hurray!!!! Hurray!!!!

- His Meeple Highness: And to commemorate this day, I will stamp my signature on this Scoreboard that will go to the winner of the Advent Quiz 2022!
- Grim Mike: Thank you, Sire!
- Grim Mike: Release the prisoners...
- Snowman: Can we keep The Grinch tied for a while? I think he likes it...
- His Meeple Highness: Granted! 8)
- Danisthirty: How would Meepledrone love to see this!
- The Grinch: Whaaaaat? :o

Question #1: The Gingerbread Man wants you to help him score this end-game scenario. How many points will each player score?

Answer #1: This end-of-game scenario shows the betting chips on two betting offices. We are assuming that all the players remember their bets perfectly and we will consider the choice providing them the most points.

At the end of the game, the remaining betting chips will be scored before the usual scoring of uncompleted features takes place. Each player will independently pick a feature for each betting chip to settle its bet. Let's proceed then:
- Blue:
    - The 2/6 chip will score 0 points, since neither the road nor the city on the betting tile will match those bets.
    - The 3/5 chip will score 3 points for the 3-tile road
- Red:
    - The 4/7+ chip will score 4 points for the 4-tile city.
- Yellow:
    - The 4 chip will score 8 points for the 4-tile city.
    - The 2/6 chip will score 2 points for the 2-tile city.

The usual end-game scoring will take place now:
- Blue will scores 6 points for the city ( (4 tiles + 2 coats of arms) x 1 point = 6 x 1 point)
- Red will score 2 points for the city (2 tiles x 1 point per tile)
- Yellow will score 3 points (3 tiles x 1 point per tile)

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 9 points (3 for one bet + 6 points for the city)
- Red scores 6 points (4 for the bet + 2 points for the city)
- Yellow will score 13 points (8 points for one bet + 2 points for the other bet + 3 points for the road)

Question #2: The Snowman completes this road on behalf of Red. How many points does each player score?

Answer #2: The placement of this tile completes a road occupied by Red and Yellow. Besides, the completed road also causes the Blue shepherd to be in a field completely surrounded, which will trigger the Guide the flock to the stable action for this shepherd automatically. Note that the mist banks limit the fields, the same as road and city segments or the haunted castle in this case.

As a result, Blue will score 5 points for the 5 sheep on the tokens. The shepherd will return to its owner and the sheep tokens to the bag.

Now let's score the completed road. Both Red and Yellow share the majority, but Red's guard meeple is placed on a hill. This way, the tie is broken and only Red will score 7 points for the road (7 tiles x 1 point per tile)

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 5 points
- Red scores 7 points
- Yellow scores 0 points

In this same scenario...

Question #2b: Which meeple gets a ghost?

Question #2c: Does it affect the scoring? Why?

Answer #2b: Yellow gets the ghost. The tile placed by Red extends the mist, so the player must add a meeple to an opponent's meeple, if possible. The only candidate is Yellow's normal meeple. The Blue shepherd is a special figure and cannot be added a ghost.

Answer #2c: No, the ghost does not affect the scoring. Since Yellow does not have the majority in the road, the player scores no points for the feature and no negative points for the ghost either. Ghosts only affect the scoring of those players with the majority.

Question #3: Santa Claus places this tile on Red's behalf. He has several questions for you:
a) How many points does each player score? (0-5 points)
b) What side of the tollhouse will be facing up at the end of this turn? (0-1 points)
c) After scoring, Blue would like to move the wagon. How many cities can the player choose from? Indicate if you are applying C1 or C2 rules in this case (0-1 points)

Answer #3: The placement of the tile completes two roads. Each one will trigger the scoring of the Red tollhouse too, but both roads will be scored with current value of the tollhouse. Each road also has signposts that will have to be considered for the scoring.

Let's address each road in turn:

>> The road occupied by Yellow

Red will score 5 points for The tollhouse (3 points for the group of travelers + 1 point for the farmhouse + 1 point for the shed).

Yellow[/u] will score 9 points (5 poins for the road + 4 points for the signposts):
- 5 points for the road itself (5 tiles x 1 point per tile)
- 4 points for the correct signposts (2 correct signposts x 2 correct types of signposts). Note the red and the blue arrows are correct, so there are 2 types of correct signposts and each correct signposts is worth 2 points.

>> The road occupied by  Blue

Red will score 5 points for The tollhouse (3 points for the group of travelers + 1 point for the garden + 1 point for the shed).

Blue will score 5 points (4 poins for the road + 1 points for the signposts):
- 4 points for the road itself (4 tiles x 1 point per tile)
- 1 point for the correct signpost (1 correct signpost x 1 correct type of signposts). Note the left red arrow is correct, so there is 1 type of correct signposts and the correct signpost is worth 1 point.

After the scoring is ended, the tollhose will be flipped over to show the large toll (2) due to the presence of the 2 groups of travelers on the roads (it would have been enough with one group of travelers). Note that the tollhouse is not flipped until the scoring is finished, so all the roads are scored with the same current toll value, as indicated in the rules.

Regarding the Blue wagon, depending on the rules applies, the outcome is different:
   - In C1, the wagon can only move to the unoccupied city segment at the end of the road, so the answer would be 1.
   - In C2, the wagon can move to any unoccupied city segments on the same tile or any adjacent tiles, so the answer would be 3 (the city segment on the same tile and the two adjacent city segments on the right). The city segment at the top is out of range.

Bottomline: Here are the answers to the questions:
a) The scoring:
   - Blue scores 5 points for their road
   - Red scores 10 points for the tollhouse (5 points + 5 points)
   - Yellow scores 9 points for their road
b) After scoring is ended, the tollhose will we flipped over to show the large toll (2).
c) Depending on the rules applies, the outcome is different:
   - In C1, the wagon can only move to the unoccupied city segment on the right, that is only 1.
   - In C2, the wagon can move to any of the 3 neighboring unoccupied city segments.

Question #4: Can you tell Danisthity how many points does each player score after this tile is placed?

Answer #4: The tile placed completes a road with 10 tiles which features a bridge, two tunnels connected by the yellow and black tunnel tokens and an Ukranian traditional house acting as an inn by the lake. There is a regular inn in the scenario but it is not connected to the completed road network. Note that tiles are counted only once, even if some of them contribute more than once to the road network considering tunnel entrances and bridges too.

Since Red has two meeples on the road whereas   Blue has only one, Red will the player scoring for the road. The player will receive 20 points for it (10 tiles x (1 point per tile + 1 point for the inn) = 10 x 2 points)

Note that the crop circle featured on the Ukranian Promo tile does not play any part in this scenario.

Bottomline:
- Blue scores 0 points
- Red scores 20 points for the road

Question #5: The Grinch demands an answer after this tile is placed! How many points does each player score?

Answer #5: The tile placement completes a road, a city and the German cathedral end the completing the road. Let's score each feature in turn.

>> The road

The road occupied by Blue has an inn, a German cathedral and a German castle. The Mage is on the road as well. Additionally, the two segments of the road ending at the German cathedral will be counted separately when scoring the road, but not the Mage.

Blue will score 30 points (21 points for the road itself + 6 points for the Mage + 3 points for the German castle):
- 21 points for the road itself ( ( 5 tiles + 2 road segments on the German cathedral tile ) x  ( 1 point for the road + 1 point for the inn + 1 point for the German cathedral) = 7 x 3 points)
- 6 points for the Mage (6 tiles x 1 point)
- 3 points for the German castle (1 German castle x 3 points)

>> The city

The city is occupied by Blue and Red. Both players share the majority and score for the city, but Red has a meeple on the watchtower tile, so the player will also score points for the watchtower, which will be scored first.

Red will score 6 points for the watchtower (3 neighboring meeples x 2 points per meeple). Note we are counting the two meeples in the city and Yellow's archbishop.

Besides, Blue and Red will score 6 poins each for the city (3 tiles x 2 points per tile).

>> The German cathedral

The Yellow archbishop will score 19 points for the two completed roads ending at the German cathedral (5 points + 14 points)
- 5 points for the road looping back to the German cathedral ( (3 tiles + 2 road segments on the German cathedral tile) x 1 point = 5 x 1 points)
- 14 points for the road occupied by Blue ( (5 tiles + 2 road segments on the German cathedral tile) x (1 point for the road + 1 point for the inn) = 7 x 2 points)

Note:
- The road considers the inn, the Mage and the German castle for its scoring.
- The German cathedral only considers the inn for its scoring as per the rules, but does not consider the Mage or the German castle.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 36 points (30 points for the road + 6 points for the city)
- Red scores 12 points (6 points for the watchtower + 6 points for the city)
- Yellow will score 19 points for the German cathedral.

Question #6: After placing this tile on Red's behalf, the Gingerbread Man has the following questions:
a) Is there any ferry that cannot be moved? (0-1 point)
b) What is the maximum number of points Red can score for this road network after moving the ferries the player is allowed to? (0-5 points)

Answer #6: Only those ferries directly connected to the tile just placed can be moved, so the ferry bottom right cannot be moved.

If the ferry in the middle is moved to connect the other two jetties keeping same orientation "\", and the ferry in the middle right is switched from position "/" to position "|", the resulting road has 8 tiles. Therefore, Red can score 8 points for the road (8 tiles x 1 point per tile)

Bottomline:
a) The ferry bottom right cannot be moved.
b) Red can score 8 points for the road by moving the ferries.

Question #7: The Snowman places this tile on Blue's behalf. The player wants to use the Princess to remove Red's meeple. The player has the following questions:
a) What happens to the Fairy after the meeple is removed?
b) Can Blue place their phantom after removing this meeple? (0-1 point)
c) How many points will each player score?

Answer #7: After removing Red's meeple with the Princess tile, the Fairy will remain on the same tile, unassigned to any meeple. It will then provide no scoring bonus fo the completed feature.

Since Blue used the Princess tile, the player may not place their phantom this turn.

Blue and Yellow will share the majority in the city, since Red is not present in the city due to the Princess tile. Both players will score 22 points ( (9 tiles + 2 coats of arms) x 2 points = 11 x 2 points).

Note:
- Red does not receive the Fairy 1-point bonus at the beginning of this turn because the player is not the active one.

Bottomline:
a) The Fairy will stay where it is
b) No, Blue cannot place their phantom.
c) The scoring is as follows;
   - Blue will score 22 points for the city
   - Red will score no points, since it is not in the city anymore.
   - Yellow will score 22 points for the city

Question #8: This is the last tile of the game. Santa Claus would like you to answer the following questions:
a) How many points does each player score in this last turn of the game? (0-5 points)
b) How many points does each player score after the game? (0-5 points)

Answer #8: The last tile placed completes a road and a cult place. Note that there is no challenge between the cult place and the adjacent German monastery, since the later has a meeple placed as an abbot, which is not scored until the end of the game.

The scoring during the last turn of the game is as follows:
- Red scores 12 points for the cult place (9 points for the monastery + 3 points for the adjacent vineyard).
- Yellow scores 6 points for the road (6 tiles x 1 point per road tile)

After the game ends, the final scoring is performed:
- Blue scores 6 points for the German monastery (1 point for the monastery tile + 1 point for the tile in the column above + 1 point for the tile in the row to the right + 1 point for the tile in the column below + 2 points for the tiles in the row to the left).
- Yellow scores 4 points for the uncompleted monastery (4 tiles x 1 point per road tile).

Note that vineyards are not considered for scorings after the game.

Bottomline:
a) The scoring of the last turn is as follows:
   - Red scores 12 points for the completed cult place
   - Yellow scores 6 points for the completed road
b) The scoring after the game is next:
   - Blue scores 6 points for the German monastery
   - Yellow scores 4 points for the uncompleted monastery

[Q1] The three cards shown below cause an immediate scoring affecting a road/city/monastery. Does this scoring cause the followers on the road/city/cloister to return to their players?

[A1] Yes, the scoring does cause the followers to return to their players.

Card symbols from left to right:
* Score an uncompleted road you control for 2x points.
* Score an uncompleted city you control for +1 points per tile.
* Score an uncompleted cloister you control for 1 point per tile (except for the cloister itself).

Bummer!

What does this mean for the answers to the Advent Quizz? At that time, the WICA said something else....

I was as suprised as you with this clarification. :o

I will consider both options valid for Question #21:
- The meeple stays on the monastery after the scoring (the one considered at the time of the Advent Quiz)
- The meeple is removed from the monastery after the scoring (the answer provided by JEM Magazin, and final one)

... Or, in other words, I will ignore the scoring of the monastery after the game.

I consider it is the most fair thing to do in this case.

Question #9: Danisthirty places this tile with a bridge on Yellow's behalf. How many points does each player score from this tile placement during the game?

Answer #9: The tile completes a city and connects the field with the Red barn to the field with Yellow's ringmaster and Blue's meeple and pig. This field connection is caused by the field segment along the city segment under the bridge.

Yellow will score 10 points for the city ( (4 tiles + 1 coat of arms) x 2 points = 5 x 2 points)

The tile placement will trigger the scoring of the connected field, which has 2 completed cities and 1 castle. Both Blue and Yellow share the majority and will score for the connected field:

- Blue will score 7 points for their farmer and pig ( (2 cities x (1 point per city + 1 point for the pig) ) + (1 castle x (2 points per castle + 1 point for the pig) ) = ( (2 x 2 points) + (1 x 3 points) = 4 + 3 points). Both figures will be removed and returned to the player.

- Yellow will score 4 points for their ringmaster ( (2 cities x 1 point per city ) + (1 castle x 2 points per castle ) = ( (2 x 1 points) + (1 x 2 points) = 2 + 2 points). Additionally, the player will receive 4 points as ringmaster bonus for to the adjacent circus and acrobat spaces ( (1 circus space + 1 acrobat space) x 2 points = 2 x 2 points). The ringmaster will be returned to its owner.

Red will not receive any points at this point for their barn, castle lord or acrobat. The barn will be scored at the end of the game, the castle scoring is not triggered by fields and the acrobat cannot be scored yet either. The completed city is not overlapping the castle fief either.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 7 points for the connected field
- Red will score no points.
- Yellow will score 18 points (10 points for the city + 4 points for the connected field + 4 points as ringmaster bonus)

Question #10: The Grinch has come back with another question for you. How many points does each player score after this tile is placed? Take into account these scoring tiles as the active ones.

Answer #10: The tile completes a city which will be affected by the Bad Neighborhood scoring tile. As a result, this 11-tile city will be scored as if it was a 6-tile city (the tile count will ignore those tiles only contributing with semicircular segments to the city). However, all the meeples and bonuses affecting the semicircular segments will be considered as usual, so Blue's mayor and the two German castles will be considered as usual.

Blue is the only player with the majority, since the city has 2 coats of arms. So Blue has 2 majority votes against 1 from the other players. As a result, Blue will be the player scoring for this city.

When scoring the city, we will have to consider the following:
- 6 tiles (after the effect of the Bad Neighborhood scoring tile)
- 2 coats of arms
- The Witch
- The Darmstadtium tile
- 2 German castles

The city is then worth 17 points (8 points for the city affected by the Witch + 3 points for the Darmstadtium + 6 points for the German castles)
- 8 points for the city itself affected by the Witch ( ( (6 tiles + 2 coats of arms) x 2 points ) / 2 for the Witch = (8 x 2 points / 2 ) = 8 points)
- 3 points for the Darmstadtium
- 6 points for the German castles (2 German castles x 3 points each)

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 17 points
- Red will score 0 points
- Yellow will score 0 points

Question #11: The Gingerbread Man places this tile on Blue's behalf. The player has the following questions:
a) How many points does each player score? (0-5 points)
b) Where will the Gingerbread Man figure move to? (0-1 point)

Answer #11: This tile placement completes the city with a gingerbread man tile, so the Gingerbread Man figure will grant its bonus and will move to a new uncompleted city: the semicircular city segment on the left (the only option in this scenario).

Before scoring the city, the players will score the gingerbread man bonus:
- Blue will score 16 points (8 tiles x 1 points per tile x 2 meeples).
- Red will score 8 points (8 tiles x 1 points per tile x 1 meeple).

Now we score the city. Blue has the majority so this player is the only one scoring 20 points for the city ( (8 tiles + 2 coats of arms) x 2 points = 10 x 2 points)

Bottomline:
a) The scoring is as follows:
   - Blue will score 36 points (16 bonus points for the Gingerbread Man figure + 20 points for the city)
   - Red will score 8 points (8 bonus points for the Gingerbread Man figure)
b) The Gingerbread Man figure will move to the semicircular city segment on the left.

Question #12: The Snowman places this tile on Red's behalf. The player has the following questions:
a) Can the player use the magic portal to occupy the monastery in the city with a normal meeple? Why? (0-1 point)
b) How many points does each player score according to the previous answer? (0-5 points)
c) What will happen to the Blue Meeple on the tower? (0-1 point)

Answer #12: The tile placement completes the city and the unoccupied monastery in the city. A magic portal cannot send a meeple to a completed feature, even if it was completed by the tile just placed (the monastery was completed in 1. Placing a tile before the magic portal could be used in 2. Placing a meeple ). So, the scenario will be scored as it is.

Red and Yellow share the majority in the city. Both players will score 18 points for it ( (7 tiles + 2 coasts of arms) x 2 points = 9 x 2 points)

The blue meeple on the tower does not participate in the city scoring, so it does not affect the majority and will not be removed after scoring it. The meeple will stay on the tower as is. It may stay there until the end of the game or until it is captured by another tower.

Bottomline:
a) No, Red cannot deploy the normal meeple onto the monastery, since the feature was completed before the magic portal could be used.
b) The scoring will be as follows:
   - Blue scores no points
   - Red scores 18 points
   - Yellow scores 18 points

Having kids that still wake up during the night is of some help, couldn't miss midnight questions :yellow-meeple:

But anything may still happen !

And congratulation Snearone, very good points for those last questions !

By the way, is there a mistake with question 12's table ? I think Snearone did answer correctly (6 points), but the "OK" column is red  :o

haha, I had a discussion with Meepledrone on this already concerning another question. I was not aware that the OK has only 1 if ALL the questions are anwered correctly. In this case 7 points were possible for the fastest, it seems he got one of the 1 point questions wrong but he still got 5+1

Right, Meepledrone?

This was the case for several answers to question 12.c), where it was stated that the meeple would stay on the tower until the end of the game (no other options where mentioned). However, it could also be captured by the adjacent tower. >:D

That's correct. OK = 1 means all the subquestions wre okay... So, you may have OK = 0 due to a wrong 1-point answer but you may receive several points though, like in this case.

Question #13: Santa Claus places this tile on Blue's behalf. How many points does each player score if all the players want to score the most points for their castles?

Answer #13: The tile placement completes three features:
- The road occupied by Red worth 4 points (4 tiles x 1 points)
- An unoccupied city worth 10 points ( (4 tiles + 1 coat of arms) x 2 points = 5 x 2 points)
- An unoccupied monastery worth 9 points (9 tiles x 1 point per tile)

First off, Red will score 4 points for the road.

The road and the monastery -even if unoccupied- will trigger the scoring of the castle occupied by Blue on the left, since both features overlap the castle fief. In turn, this castle will trigger the scoring of the castle occupied by Red. Blue may choose to score for the road or the monastery, but we want to score the most points, so Blue will choose the monastery. As a result, both Blue and Red will score 9 points for their castles on the left.

On the other hand, the city -even if unoccupied- triggers the scoring of the castle occupied by Yellow's mayor. This castle will trigger the castle occupied by Blue on the right. Both castles are worth the same points as the city, that is 10 points, but Yellow's mayor won't be able to score points for the castle, since a castle has no coats of arms. However, Yellow will receive the 3 points for the Fairy. As a result, Yellow  will score 3 points and Blue will score 10 points.

Notes:
- Yellow does not receive the Fairy 1-point bonus at the beginning of this turn because the player is not the active one.
- We assume the active player does not move the Fairy from its current position in this scenario.
- Blue's castle on the right scores the same points the castle occupied by Yellow is worth, no matter the player cannot score for it. Likewise, Blue's castle on the right will not receive points for the Fairy bonus received by Yellow, since it is a bonus associated with the meeple in the feature, not with the feature itself.
- Yellow does not receive the fairy 1-point bonus at the beginning of this turn because the player is not the active one.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 19 points (9 points for the left castle + 10 points for the right castle)
- Red will score 13 points (3 points for the road + 9 points for the castle)
- Yellow will score 3 points for the Fairy.

Question #14: Blue places this abbey under Danisthirty's careful supervision. How many points does each player score?

Please indicate what set of rules you chose for your answer when dealing with Halflings and double-sized tiles (C1 or C2).

Answer #14: The placement of this abbey tile completes several features:
- The abbey just placed and occupied by Blue
- The German castle also occupied by Blue
- The road occupied by Red and Yellow.
- The city occupied by Yellow
- The city occupied by Blue and Red
- The unoccupied road on the German castle tile.

Note that the Halfling tiles alone in a square are enough to occupy a square space and consider the abbey and the German monastery completely surrounded.

Depending on the ruleset used for Halflings and double-sized tiles, there will be two different outcomes.
- The C1 rules consider each tile individually no matter their shape, so two Halflings in a square count as 2 tiles, and one double-sized tile counts as 1 tile.
- The C2/C3 rules consider occupied spaces when scoring features, so two Haflings in a square count as 1 tile, and one double-sized tile counts as 2 tiles (except when scoring a long road on a Leipzig tile)

C2/C3 rules:

Let's check each completed feature in turn...

Blue will score 9 points for the abbey (9 occupied spaces x 1 point). Note that the German castle counts as 2 occupied spaces.

Blue will score 12 points for the German castle (12 occupied spaces x 1 point). Note that the 2 Halflings on the right and the 2 Halflings top left are counted as 1 occupied space (or tile) each.

Red and Yellow share the majority on the road, so both players will score 12 points (9 points for the road + 3 bonus points for the German castle):
   - 9 points for the road itself (9 occupied spaces x 1 point). Note that the German castle counts as 2 occupied spaces. Additionally, the two Halflings in the space top left are counted as 1 occupied space (or tile).
   - 3 bonus points for the German castle (1 German castle x 3 points). Note that even if the road ends several times at the German castle, its bonus is granted only once.

Yellow will score 2 points for the city (1 city segment x 2 points)

Blue and Red share the city, but Blue has the majority in the city (a major with two coats of arms vs. one normal meeple. So, Blue alone will score 19 points for the city (16 points for the city itself + 3 bonus points for the German castle):
   - 16 points for the city itself ( (6 occupied spaces + 2 coats of arms) x 2 points) = 8 x 2 points). Note that the space occupied by the mayor has two Halflings which will be counted as 1 occupied space.
   - 3 bonus points for the German castle (1 German castle x 3 points).

No players will score points for the unoccupied road on the German castle tile.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 40 points (9 points for the abbey + 12 points for the German castle + 19 points for the city)
- Red will score 12 points for the road
- Yellow will score 14 points (12 points for the road + 2 points for the city)

C1 rules:

Let's check each completed feature in turn...

Blue will score 8 points for the abbey (8 tiles x 1 point). Note that the German castle counts as 1 tile.

Blue will score 14 points for the German castle (2 points for the German castle tile + (12 adjacent tiles x 1 point) = 2 + 12 points). Note that the 2 Halflings on the right and the 2 Halflings top left are counted as individual tiles.

Red and Yellow share the majority on the road, so both players will score 11 points (8 points for the road + 3 bonus points for the German castle):
   - 8 points for the road itself (8 tiles x 1 point). Note that the German castle counts as 1 tile only. Additionally, the two Halflings in the space top left are counted individualy, but only one of them contributes to the road in any case.
   - 3 bonus points for the German castle (1 German castle x 3 points). Note that even if the road ends several times at the German castle, its bonus is granted only once.

Yellow will score 2 points for the city (1 city segment x 2 points)

Blue and Red share the city, but Blue has the majority in the city (a major with two coats of arms against one normal meeple. So, Blue alone will score 21 points (18 points for the city itself + 3 bonus points for the German castle):
   - 18 points for the city itself ( (7 tiles + 2 coats of arms) x 2 points) = 9 x 2 points). Note that the space occupied by the mayor has two Halflings which will be counted individually.
   - 3 bonus points for the German castle (1 German castle x 3 points).

No players will score points for the unoccupied road on the German castle tile.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 43 points (8 points for the abbey + 14 points for the German castle + 21 points for the city)
- Red will score 11 points for the road
- Yellow will score 13 points (11 points for the road + 2 points for the city)

Question #15: The Grinch places this tile on Blue's behalf. How many points does each player score if the player decides to score the city just completed and not build a castle?

Note:
- This tile is not the last one in the game.
- The animal token under the big top is shown face up in the picture.

Answer #15: This tile placement has the following effects:
- It completes the city occupied by Blue. This will also trigger the scoring of the castles occupied by Yellow and, in turn, this castle will also trigger the scoring of the castle occupied by Red.
- After this scoring, the big top will have to be scored and moved to the circus space on the newly placed tile, placing a new animal token face down underneath.

Let's score the city and the castles first:
- Blue will score 4 points for the small city (2 tiles x 2 points)
- Yellow will score 4 points for the completed city in its fief.
- Red will also score 4 points for the completed castle occupied by Yellow.
So all three features score the same points.

Note that Yellow will not receive any ringmaster bonus. A ringmaster placed in a castle does not provide any bonus to its owner, since it is not a feature from the base game (as clarified by HiG).

Additionally, note that the Barn is in a field that is not connected to the one with Blue's farmer and pig. So no field scoring is triggered in this scenario.

At this point the meeple in the city and the meeples in the two castles are returned to their owners. Afterwards, the big top is scored without considering these meeples just removed. Therefore, only the meeples on the board at this point are considered for the scoring of the big top. Special figures are not considered, so Red's builder and barn as well as Blue's shepherd and pig will not receive points for the big top.

The players with meeples in the vicinity of the big top will score 7 points per meeple:
- Blue will receive 7 points for their acrobat (1 meeple x 7 points).
- Red will receive 14 points for the meeples on the monastery (a phantom) and in the city (2 meeples x 7 points)
- Yellow will receive 7 points for their acrobat (1 meeple x 7 points).

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 11 points (4 points for the city + 7 points for the big top)
- Red will score 18 points (4 points for the castle + 14 points for the big top)
- Yellow will score 11 points (4 points for the castle + 7 points for the big top)

Question #16: The Gingerbread Man places this tile on Red's behalf. How many points does each player score?

Answer #16: Once the tile is drawn and before placing it, Red will move the Big Pink Pig on the Wheel of Fortune 2 sectors in clockwise direction. It will land on the Taxes sector.

The taxes action will be performed separately per city:

- City on the left:
  - Blue will score 3 points ( (1 meeple + 2 coats of arms) x 1 meeple x 1 point per meeple = 3 x 1 x 1 points)
  - Yellow will score 3 points ( (1 meeple + 2 coats of arms) x 1 meeple x 1 point per meeple = 3 x 1 x 1 points)

- City at the bottom:
  - Blue will score 2 points ( (1 meeple + 1 coats of arms) x 1 meeple x 1 point per meeple = 2 x 1 x 1 points)

After performing the Taxes action, Red will score 6 points for the meeple standing alone on a two-space sector of the crown. This meeple is then returned to its owner.

After placing the tile no feature is completed, so no other points are scored this turn.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 5 points (3 points + 2 points for the Taxes action)
- Red will score 6 points for the meeple on the crown space.
- Yellow will score 3 points for the Taxes action.

The issue here (question #13) is that a feature is always worth a number of points no matter if those points can be scored.

Castles score the points that a completed feature in their vicinity is worth (even another castle just completed). It is irrelevant if the completed feature is occupied or not, or if the owner can score for it (e.g. a mayor cannot score points for a feature with no coats of arms).

Question #17: The Snowman has this end-game scenario. How many points does each player score?

Answer #17: This scenario has several features to be scored:

- The (haunted) castle occupied by Red: The player will score  2 points for it as there is mist on the castle tile and one adjacent tile (2 tiles with mist x 1 point).

- The field occupied by Blue: The field has 1 completed city with a siege. The player will score 6 points for this field ( (1 city x 3 points) x 2 for the siege = 3 x 2 points).

- The field occupied by Red: The field has 0 completed cities since the mist separates the field and the completed city does not border on it. Since the farmer has 2 ghosts, the player will score -2 points for this field ( (0 cities x 3 points) - (2 ghosts x 1 point) = 0 - 2 points).

- The field occupied by Yellow: The field has 0 completed cities since the mist separates the field and the completed city does not border on it. The player will score 0 points for this field (0 cities x 3 points).

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 6 points for their field.
- Red will score 0 points (2 points for the (haunted) castle - 2 points for their field)
- Yellow will score 0 points for their field.

Question #17.5: His Meeple Highness needs your urgent help. What is the answer to this Royal Riddle ?

Answer #17.5: The expansion symbols map to their corresponding expansion numbers and the C symbol to 0 in this case.

0: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/1/15/Symbol_CarcassonneC.png)
1: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/5/5c/Symbol_InnsCathedrals_C1C2.png)
2: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/2/23/Symbol_TradersBuilders_C2.png)
3: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/9/9b/Symbol_PrincessDragon_C1C2.png)
4: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/3/3a/Symbol_Tower_C1C2.png)
5: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/1/12/Symbol_AbbeyMayor_C1C2.png)
6: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/9/92/Symbol_CountKingRobber_C1C2.png)
7: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/6/65/Symbol_Catapult_C1.png)
8: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/7/7a/Symbol_BridgesCastlesBazaars_C1C2.png)
9: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/e/ec/Symbol_HillsSheep_C1C2.png)
10: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/1/17/Symbol_UnderTheBigTop_C2.png)
11: (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/d/df/Symbol_GhostsCastlesCemeteries_C3.png)

Note:
- One symbol may represent a number with one (0-9) or two digits (10 or 11).
- Two adjacent symbols represent the figures of a two-digit number.

By substituting the expansion symbols for their values, we have the following expressions:

a) 1 + 4 + A + 11 = 21
b) 7 - B + C +  3 =  8
c) 2 - D + 9 -  6 =  4

d)  1 + 7 + 2 = 10
e)  4 + B + D = 11
f)  A + C - 9 =  0
g) 11 - 3 - 6 =  2

We need to calculate A, B, C and D. To do so, we use the following expressions to obtain their values (this is one valid sequence out of several possible ones):

a) 1 + 4 + A + 11 = 21 ==> A + (1 + 4 + 11) = 21 ==> A + 16 = 21 ==> A = 21 - 16 ==> A = 5

c) 2 - D + 9 - 6 = 4 ==> (2 + 9 - 6) - D = 4 ==> 5 - D = 4 ==> D = 5 - 4 ==> D = 1

And now we use the values obtained for A and D in the following expressions to calculate the others:

e) 4 + B + D = 11 ==> 4 + B + 1 = 11 ==> B + (4 + 1) = 11 ==> B + 5 = 11 ==> B = 11 - 5 ==> B = 6

f)  A + C - 9 =  0 ==> 5 + C = 9 ==> C = 9 - 5 ==> C = 4

Therefore, A = 5, B = 6, C = 4 and D = 1

So A B - D C = 56 - 14 = 42, which is represented as (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/3/3a/Symbol_Tower_C1C2.png) (https://wikicarpedia.com/images/2/23/Symbol_TradersBuilders_C2.png). So the correct answer is 3)

Bottomline:
- The answer is 3)

Question #18: Santa Claus places this tile on Blue's behalf. How many points does each player score?

Answer #18: The tile placement completes a city. Blue and Yellow share the majority with 2 majority votes each:
- Blue has 2 normal meeples
- Yellow has a mayor in a city with 2 coats of arms.
However, the tie is broken in Blue's favor with one meeple on a hill. Red has only one normal meeple in the city also on a hill, so the player scores nothing for the feature (not participating in the tie, the hill has no effect).

Therefore, Blue will score 22 points for the city ( (9 tiles + 2 coats of arms) x 2 points = 11 x 2 points ). Note that the tiles are counted only once, even if they contribute with more than one city segment due to city overpasses in this case.

At this point, we score he bets on the city, which has 9 tiles. Only those betting chips with values 4/7+ and 5/8+ will score points. Let's check each betting office in turn:

The betting office at the top will provide the following points:
- Blue:
    - The 4/7+ chip will grant 7 points for the city.
- Red:
    - The 3/6 chip will grant 0 points for city.
- Yellow:
    - The 4 chip will grant 0 points for the city.

The betting office on the right will provide the following points:
- Blue:
    - The 5/8+ chip will grant 8 points for the city.
- Red:
    - The 4/7+ chip will grant 7 points for city.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 37 points (22 points for the city + 7 points for the betting chip at the top + 8 points for the betting chip on the right)
- Red will score 7 points for the betting chip on the right.
- Yellow will score 0 points.

Question #19: The Grinch picked this end-game scenario for you. How many points does each player score?

Please indicate what set of rules you chose for your answer when dealing with Halflings and double-sized tiles (C1 or C2).

Answer #19: This scenario includes Halflings and double-sized tiles that affect the scoring of a city and a Japanese building.

Red occupies a city with 6 occupied spaces, one of them shared by two Halflings (counted as 1 regular tile), 3 coats of arms and 1 German castle. The German castle is not considered during final scoring, so the player will score 8 points for the city ( (6 occupied spaces + 3 coats of arms) x 1 point = 9 x 1 points).

Red will score 0 points for the castle occupied by the player.

Yellow will score 8 points for the Japanese building (1 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 3 points):
- 1 point for the Japanese building
- 2 points for the 2 spaces in the column at the top (the 2 spaces occupied by the halves of a double-sized tile).
- 0 points for no tiles in the row to the right (the square gap ends the row)
- 2 points for the 2 occupied spaces in the column below (the triangular gap does not interrupt the column)
- 3 points for the 3 spaces in the row to the left (1 space occupied by two Halflings and 2 spaces occupied by the halves of a double-sized tile).

Blue occupies a field with a pig including 1 completed city and 1 castle. The German castles do not grant any points to fields (Note the field is connected between the German castle and the city segment on the double-sized tiles). The player will receive 9 points (4 + 5 points):
- 4 points for the city (1 city x (3 points per city + 1 point for the pig) = 1 x 4 points)
- 5 points for the castle (1 castle x (4 points per castle + 1 point for the pig) = 1 x 5 points)

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 9 points for the field
- Red will score 9 points for the city
- Yellow will score 8 points for the Japanese building

C1 rules:

Red occupies a city with 7 tiles, where 5 of them are Halflings (counted as individual tiles even when sharing the same space), 3 coats of arms and 1 German castle. The German castle is not considered during final scoring, so the player will score 10 points for the city ( (7 tiles + 3 coats of arms) x 1 point = 10 x 1 points).

Red will score 0 points for the castle occupied by the player.

Yellow will score 7 points for the Japanese building (1 + 1 + 0 + 2 + 3 points):
- 1 point for the Japanese building
- 1 point for the double-sized tile in the column at the top (the double-sized tile is counted as 1 tile).
- 0 points for no tiles in the row to the right (the square gap ends the row)
- 2 points for the 2 tiles in the column below (the triangular gap does not interrupt the column)
- 3 points for the 3 tiles in the row to the left (1 space occupied by two Halflings counted individually and 1 double-sized tile counted individually as well).

Blue occupies a field with a pig including 1 completed city and 1 castle. The German castles do not grant points to fields (Note the field is connected between the German castle and the city segment on the double-sized tiles).

- Red will score 10 points for the city
- Yellow will score 7 points for the Japanese building

Question #20: The Gingerbread Man places this tile on Red's behalf, completing several roads connected to the city of Leipzig. Each player wants to send a meeple each to the city but to various quarters:
- Blue and Red to the Wainwrights quarter
- Yellow to the Bookbinders quarter.
How many points will each player score?

Please indicate what set of rules you chose for your answer when dealing with the double-sized tiles (C1 or C2).

Answer #20: This tile placement completes 3 roads and a monastery. Since the roads are connected to the city of Leipzig and their owners have the majority on those roads, we proceed first to send the meeples to Leipzig.  Afterwards, we will score the features with the meeples left on them, and considering all the meeples in Leipzig at this point (those deployed previously and the new ones).

Depending on the ruleset used for double-sized tiles, the monastery scoring may vary.
- The C1 rules consider each tile individually, so one double-sized tile counts as 1 tile.
- The C2/C3 rules consider occupied spaces when scoring features, so one double-sized tile counts as 2 tiles (except when scoring a long road on a Leipzig tile).

C2/C3 rules:

Blue has a road with 2 meeples. The player is alone and therefore has the majority on the road. So, the player may send a meeple to the Wainwights quarter in Leipzig. The road will keep one meeple and the player will be able to score points for it, and also receive the Wainwrights quarter bonus on the same turn for the meeple just sent to this quarter.

Red has a road with 1 meeple. The player is alone and therefore has the majority on the road. So, the player may send a meeple to the Wainwights quarter in Leipzig, and the road will end up unoccupied. As a result, Red will neither score points for the road nor receive the Wainwrights quarter bonus for the meeple just sent to this quarter.

Yellow has a road with 1 meeple. The player is alone and therefore has the majority on the road. The player may send a meeple to the Bookbinders quarter in Leipzig, and the road will end up unoccupied. As a result, Yellow will  neither score points for the road nor receive the Wainwrights quarter bonus for the meeple the player had in this quarter.

At this point, we score all the completed features with meeples still on them.

Blue will score 6 points for the road with one meeple left on it (6 tiles x 1 point per tile). Note that long road on the Leipzig tile counts as 1 tile no matter it spreads across two spaces. Additionally, Blue will receive 6 points for the Wainwrights bonus (6 tiles x 1 point). Again, the Leipzig tile is counted as 1 tile.

Red will score 9 points for the monastery (9 occupied spaces x 1 point). As a result of this scoring, Blue and Yellow will score 4 points each for their meeples in the Bookbinders quarter.

Bottomline:
- Blue will score 16 points (6 points for the road + 6 points for the Wainwrights quarter bonus + 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus).
- Red will score 9 points for the monastery.
- Yellow will score 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus.

C1 rules:

Additionally, Blue will receive 6 points for the Wainwrights bonus (6 tiles x 1 point). The Leipzig tile is counted as 1 tile.

Red will score 8 points for the monastery (8 tiles x 1 point). Note the adjacent double-sized tile is counted as 1 tile.

- Red will score 8 points for the monastery.
- Yellow will score 4 points for the Bookbinders quarter bonus.

@Meepledrone Quizz #12
In Base game rules is:

Use a meeple, score a feature, and get the meeple back
You can place a meeple in a feature you just completed, immediately score it, and then return the meeple to your supply.
To do so, follow these steps:
 1. Place a tile, completing a feature (such as a road, city, or monastery).
 2. Place a meeple as a highwayman, knight, or monk on the feature you just completed.
 3. Score the completed road, city, or monastery and return the meeple to your supply.

So for this I think that Red was able to place Meeple on Monastery.

Clarification on The Princess & the Dragon page on Wica not covered this scenario. They cover scenario if feature was completed in previous turns.

Question: If there is a completed feature that no-one scored for, for example a monastery that was never occupied, or a city where the all the knights were eaten by the dragon before they would score, then can I use a magic portal to occupy it and score for it?

Answer: No. The magic portal rules state that you cannot place a meeple on a completed feature. This applies even if no-one scored for it.

Hmm?

Magic portals and flying machines have this limitation compared to placing a meeple directly. Magic portals and flying machines cannot place meeples on features just completed. You have the clarification you quoted for magic portals and this one:

Hi Meepledrone, just for future reference as it's not going to make much difference, but is there a reason that I only scored 1 point for question 20 even though I had the 4th quickest correct answer? Is it because of the length of time elapsed? Thanks  :)

Question #21: The Snowman places this tile on Blue's behalf. The player has  the following questions:
a) Does the player draw a card from the Cloister deck (top card shown face up)? (0-1 point)
b) Does the player draw a card from the Roadside deck (top card shown face up)? (0-1 point)
c) How many points does each player score? Blue would like to activate the cards in their hand (shown left) and any card drawn on this turn? (0-5 points)
d) If the the game ends with this tile, how many points does each player score after the game? (0-5 points)

Answer #21: This tile placement causes Blue to draw a card from the Cloister deck, since the player placed a tile next to an opponent's monastery. This card will be activated immediately, as indicated by the symbol at the bottom of the card.

As a result, Blue will score 4 for the monastery occupied by the abbot (4 tiles adjacent to the monastery x 1 point). Note the monastery tile is not counted. The abbot will be removed from the monastery as clarified by the publisher, so it will not participate in the final scoring.

Since the tile just placed doesn't feature only roads, the player many not draw another card from the Roadside deck.

During this turn, the following features will be scored:
- A 3-tile city with 1 coat of arms occupied by Blue: if the player activates the card bottom left for this city, the coats of arms in this city will be worth 3 points instead of 2 points. So, Blue will score 9 points for the city ( (3 tiles x 2 points per tile) + (1 coats of arms x 3 points) = 6 + 3 points). The meeple in this city will be returned to its owner as usual.

- A 4-tile city with no coats of arms occupied by Blue: if the player activates the card top left for this city, each city tile will be worth 3 points instead of 2 points. So, Blue will score 12 points for the city (4 tiles x 3 points per tile). The meeple in this city will be returned to its owner as usual.

- A monastery in the city occupied by Red: The player will score 9 points (9 tiles x 1 point per tile). The meeple in this monastery will be returned to its owner as usual.

- A road occupied by Yellow: This road is worth 4 points. Due to the rotated meeple on it, the road will not be scored until the end of the game. The meeple will stay there until then. (Note this meeple lying down on the road is not protected from a peasant revolt - this expansion is not included in this scenario).

Bottomline:
a) Blue will draw a card from the Cloister deck.
b) Blue will not draw a card from the Roadside deck.
c) The scorings happening during this last turn are as follows:
   - Blue will score 25 points (4 points for the Cloister card + 9 points for the city bottom left + 12 points for the city in the middle).
   - Red will score 9 points for the monastery.
   - Yellow will score no points at this point (their meeple is rotated).
d) The scorings happening after the game are as follows:
   - Blue will score no points.
   - Red will score no points.
   - Yellow will score 4 points for the road (this scoring was deferred since the rotated meeple).

Important note: Due to the clarification received in early January 2023 for the Christmas Present, the scoring of this question will ignore the abbot on the monastery after the game. This abbot should be removed by the Cloister card drawn on this final turn, but this was not clarified until the quiz was closed. So, it will not be taken into consideration for the final scoring (question d)) whether the abbot stays on the monastery or it was removed.

Question #22: Santa Claus places this tile on Red's behalf. The player has  the following questions:
a) Can Red remove the abbot before the dragon moves and receive points for it? (0-1 point)
b) The players would like to move the dragon in the following sequence: 1-2-3-4-1-2 (see the numbers on the picture). How many steps is the dragon allowed to move? (0-1 point)
c) How many points does each player score considering the scoring tiles on the right? (0-5 points)

Answer #22: The placement of the tile triggers the movement of the dragon right before the scoring of the completed features.

The abbot cannot be removed before the dragon moves, since monastery is already completed in 1. Placing a meeple. In order to remove an abbot, its monastery should be uncompleted after placing the tile.

The movement of the dragon will only be able to move 2 steps. After 1 and 2, the dragon cannot move to tile #3 due to the presence of the fairy. So the dragon will stay on tile #2.

At this point the following scorings will take place:

- Blue and Yellow share the majority on the road, so each player will score 14 points (7 tiles x (1 point for the road + 1 point for the scoring Street Fair scoring tile) = 7 x 2 points)

- Blue will also score 3 points for the Fairy. The Fairy will stay on the tile after the scoring.

- Red will score 12 points for the monastery (9 + 3 points):
   - 9 points for the monastery itself (9 tiles x 1 point per tile)
   - 3 points for the Wealth scoring tile

Notes:
- Blue does not receive the Fairy 1-point bonus at the beginning of this turn because the player is not the active one.
- We assume the active player does not move the Fairy from its current position in this scenario.
- This is not a realistic scenario. In a situation like this, Red would move the Fairy to protect their abbot, and the Dragon would eat some meeples during its movement as a result. But we are analyzing the impact of the Fairy in the movement of the Dragon, and the removal of an abbot in a situation like this.

Bottomline:
a) No, the the abbot cannot be removed because the monastery has been completed
b) Two steps. The dragon cannot continue to tile #3 because the Fairy is there.
c) The scoring is as follows:
   - Blue will score 17 points (14 points for the road + 3 points for the Fairy)
   - Red will score 12 points for the monastery
   - Yellow will score 14 points for the road.

Question #23: Danisthirty draws and places this tile on Blue's behalf. Before the tile is placed, the player has to face a peasant revolt and also decides to open this gift card to use it on the road occupied by Red and Yellow.
a) What do you perform first: the peasant revolt or the opening of the gift? (0-1 point)
b) How many points does each player score during this turn? (0-5 points)

Note: The turn sequence is:
1. Blue
2. Red
3. Yellow

Answer #23: First of all, this tile will trigger the peasant revolt for roads.

Blue, as the active player, will check their meeples first. With a protected meeple (lying down) on a road, the player scores 2 points (1 protected meeple x 2 points). Since the player has no unprotected meeples, the next player in turn has to check their meeples.

Red has 2 unprotected meeples on roads. Both of them will be removed at this point, and the peasant revolt stops here. As a result, Yellow will not receive points for their protected meeple.

At this point, the active player opens the gift before placing the tile with the bridge. Only Yellow's meeple stays on the road to be scored. The uncompleted road has 8 tiles and an inn (Don't be fooled by the RRRR tile next to the monastery). Since the road has an inn, it is worth 0 points when scoring as if at the end of the game. So Yellow scores 0 points for the road and their meeple is removed from the bridge.

Finally, the tile with the bridge is placed and the road is completed occupied by Blue alone. The player will score 22 points for the completed road (11 tiles x (1 point  per tile + 1 point for the inn) = 11 x 2 points).

Bottomline:
a) The peasant revolt is performed before opening the gift.
b) Each player scored the following points:
- Blue will score 24 points (2 points fo the protected meeple + 22 for the road)
- Red scores no points
- Yellow scores 0 points for the road due to the gift.

Question #24: The Grinch places this tile on Red's behalf. The player has the following questions:
a) Which meeple will be trapped by Solovei Razboynik along with Yellow's meeple when this tile is placed? (0-1 point)
b) How many points does each player score if applying the advanced variant rules for the Labyrinth? (0-5 points)
c) When distributing the gold ingots, is there any that only Red can pick? (0-1 point)
d) Which opponent's meeple can Red send to the free bathhouse? (0-1 point)

Note: The turn sequence is:
1. Blue
2. Red
3. Yellow

Answer #24: The tile placement completes several features:
- A 1-tile City Gates city occupied by Red
- A 1-tile road occupied by Blue
- A Darmstadt church occupied by Red
- A 11-tile road network with a labyrinth, a bathhouse and an inn occupied by 2 blue meeples, 1 red meeple and 1 yellow meeple. So, Blue has the majority. Note that there is only one road on the Darmstadt church tile (it passes by the church).
- A castle occupied by Red triggered by the completion of the road network.

The Solovei Razboynik tile is part of the road network, but its effect is not triggered by the placement of the City Gates city, since it doesn't extend the road. It just completes it. So, no additional meeple will be trapped by Solovei Razboynik along with the yellow meeple.

Let's score each feature:

Red will score 4 points for the 1-tile City Gates city. This is an edge case.

Blue will score 1 point for the 1-tile road (1 tile x 1 point per tile).

Red will score 9 points for the Darmstadt church with their abbot (9 tiles x 1 point). Additionally, the Darmstadt church will grant a bonus to the players with the majority in its vicinity. Blue will receive the 3 bonus points, since the player has 3 normal meeples vs. 2 red meeples (1 normal meeple and 1 abbot) and 2 normal yellow meeples (one of them trapped by Solovei Razboinyk).

Blue will score 33 points for the road netwok (22 + 3 + 8 points):
- 22 points for the road itself (11 tiles x (1 point per tile 1 1 point for the inn) = 11 x 2 points)
- 3 bonus points for the bathhouse
- 8 points for the 4 meeples on the labyrinth road network (4 meeples x 2 points per meeple)

Red's castle lord will score the same number of points the road netwok is worth. So the player will score 33 points for the castle. Note that the Darmstadt church tile and the City-Gates 1-tile city are not in the castle fief, so they cannot trigger the castle scoring as well.

The completion of the Darmstadt church, the road network, the 1-tile road and the castle will trigger the distribution of gold ingots.
- Gold ingot A:
  - Blue is entitled to it for the 1-tile road and the road network.
  - Red is entitled to it for the Darmstadt church.
- Gold ingot B:
  - Blue is entitled to it for the road network.
  - Red is entitled to it for the Darmstadt church and the castle.
- Gold ingot C:
  - No player is entitled to it.
- Gold ingot D:
  - Red alone is entitled to it due to the castle. No other player can pick this one.

Bottomline:
a) No additional meeple will be trapped by Solovei Razboynik.
b) The scoring is as follows:
   - Blue will score 37 points (1 point for the 1-tile road + 3 Darmstadt bonus points + 33 points for the road network)
   - Red will score 46 points (4 points for the 1-tile city + 9 points for the Darmstadt church + 33 points for the castle)
   - Yellow will score 0 points.
c) Gold ingot D is only entitled to Red.
d) As the active player, Red can send the blue meeple on the 1-tile road to the free bathhouse.

Congratulations @corinthiens13 ! Well done on getting so many points!

I will stand my ground on my answer for question 24, as I argued that a bunch of meeple would have already had to have been trapped on the Solovei tile in earlier turns, but I knew it probably wouldn't score me any points hahaha

Meepledrone, can you ship the "1 special tile prize" to Challa007 instead of me? She deserves it (most correct answers), and I already own it ;)

About question 22: Considering that red would move the fairy to his abbot and so that the two other meeples would be eaten by the dragon before scoring was a false answer?  Wasn't it the most realistic scenario? ???

And question 24... My bad, insted of answering point C's question, I made all the ingots repartition between players... Without answering to the question  ;D

Thank you!  ;D I am happy all the headaches were worthwile   ;)   I still cannot believe it.  :pink-meeple:
But this is clearly worth a BIG thank you to all the people who work with the WICA because without that I would not have been able to do it! The WICA is an amazing knowledge-storage made with intelligence, perseverance and a lot of love. Thanks to you all who keep it running. It is the best asset (apart from the people) of this community!!

And congratulations to KBellon and Challa007 for answering the most correct answers!

Meepledrone, can you ship the "1 special tile prize" to Challa007 instead of me? She deserves it (most correct answers), and I already own it ;)

Hey, thanks a lot @corinthiens13 that is very generous of you!!  ;D  :(y)

@Challa007, I indeed didn't read all of the footnotes, but most of them... Here's my receipe:
  • Allways go to "scoring during turn sequence" to verify I'm not forgetting something
  • At a single doubt, read the expansion's page and footnotes
  • Have kids that still wake up at night, making occasions to answer midnight questions and save time (next quizz in 12 month, I'm sure some of the participants can manage to have this kind of little baby-helpers before that  ;D )
  • Miss one hill or two in the process (happened every year)

haha, well from your list I do in order:

point 2 (read the whole WICA page including footnotes for every expansion involved)
point 1 (use the scoring tool from WICA)
point 4 *sigh* I also have some of those:
                    -  in question 13: apply the castle rule for the monastery but not for the mayor (why???)
                    -  in question 20: apply the rules for the red meeple but not the yellow (why???)
                    -  in question 24 forget to score the abbot (I mean, hello!!, that was the easiest thing to do in that wicked question...)
            well, you know ... *sigh*
point 3 I do not have  ;D

Concerning question 10: well here I will have a "discussion" with Meepledrone  >:D
------------------------
To finish:

Thank you so much @Meepledrone for organising this marvellous Advent Quizz once again!!

It is so much fun to do!! And I know you had very little time to do it and did it anyway for us!
That is very much appreciated!!  :(y) :(y) :(y)

So generous!  ^-^ Let's see what she has to say about the Speil'22 tile...

At least you'll want the scoreboard signed by KJW, right? ;)

About question 22: Considering that red would move the fairy to his abbot and so that the two other meeples would be eaten by the dragon before scoring was a false answer?  Wasn't it the most realistic scenario? ???

Of course, the scenario was most unrealistic, but I was more interested in the answers about the dragon moment. Ha ha ha!

And question 24... My bad, insted of answering point C's question, I made all the ingots repartition between players... Without answering to the question  ;D

It was a pity! Question #24 seemed a tough one for everyone fo different reasons.

To everyone who has participated in the Advent Quizz:

You know that one of the prices for the winner was a Spiel22 tile and @corinthiens13 has generously offered to give it to me because he already has one.

Same goes for me: I already have one and I believe most participants of this year's Advent Quizz already have one.

But if there are participants who do not have a Spiel 22 tile yet and would like to have it, please let me know via PM.

From all the requests, I will pick one (I already have my criteria fixed but will not tell  >:D) and Meepledrone will send it to that person, agreed?  :D

Agreed Challa007 for the spiel tile sharing. And I'm sure this wouldn't be a problem for Meepledrone, since this shouldn't increase the postage costs  :yellow-meeple:

Thank you Meepledrone for the quiz!

Congratulations on your win and for retaining your title @corinthiens13 :(y) :(y) :(y)
You have also almost equalled with @Challa007 and @KBellon in correct answers without unnecessary additional points scoring ;D :(y) :(y)

Additional congratulations to the three champions who were the only ones to answer question #17 fully correctly  :(y) :(y) :(y)

If only I hadn't stopped answering as soon as possible from question 18 onwards, I would have repeated exactly same places as last year :D Still, I'm surprised I didn't fall much much lower because of it  ::)

My biggest mistake was in question 18, I've got the scoring right, but done the simplest and very visible math wrong
"Blue scores 22 from a city, 8 and 7 from bets, 27 total" ouch.

But there is one thing I need to come back to  O:-)

Answer #4: The tile placed completes a road with 10 tiles which features a bridge, two tunnels connected by the yellow and black tunnel tokens and an Ukranian traditional house acting as an inn by the lake. There is a regular inn in the scenario but it is not connected to the completed road network.

I've underlines crucial part that wasn't stated in the question, as CundCo (https://cundco.de/en/accessories/478/carcassonne-ukraine-tile) says:
"You can use it as a normal tile, as an additional tile for the 1st expansion Inns and Cathedrals, where it can be used as an inn, and/or as an additional tile for the mini-expansion The Crop Circles."

That tile features Ukrainian house, not an inn, it can act as one but does not need too! You can not play those two tiles with an in from exp8 and claim that they have no inns while playing also with exp1, but you can do exactly that with Ukrainian tile, so that needs clarifiyng on WICA  O:-)

A lot of thanks again to @Meepledrone again for the nicely and tricky constructed Advent Quiz.
And thanks to all the WICA wizards who wrote down the helpful footnotes (I needed them quite a few times this year  ;D )

And my congratulations to @corinthiens13 for keeping up your winning streak and @Challa007 for also answering the most questions correctly.

Thanks for the offer of the Spiel '22 tile, but I already have 1, so it can go to one of the other participants.  :D

I do have 1 question regarding question #24: is the majority of meeples in the vicinity of the Darmstadt church always decided at the beginning of scoring? Because I thought red could choose the order of scoring as active player, and thought it would be more interesting to score it as the last feature because the blue meeples in its vicinity would already be gone, thus earning the red player the 3-point bonus.

However, even if that's the case I would still have the last question wrong. Thought the inn on the Spiel 22 tile was only counted if Expansion 1 is also in play. My bad!  :P

I just analysed more in depths my answer and the correct answer to question 24 and now I also have the exact same question as KBellon  :D

There is no clarification that establishes when the majority should be calculated for the Darmstadt church bonus, but for the sake of consistency, it should happen before any feature is scored and their meeples removed. This way, no matter the order of scoring, the outcome will be the same.

This is based on the non-written principle of coherence and stability of the scoring process: no matter the order of scoring, the results should be same. This is obvious in the base game, but can this be the same when adding more and more expansions that affect the scoring sequence? Let me elaborate...

WARNING: This is a long digression about the scoring process but I think it may be interesting to discuss. Some of this ideas are important for a more general Order of Play.

The rules of Carcassonne are not very explicit about how the scoring sequence should be conducted. Players will follow an arbitrary sequence when multiple scorings are triggered by a single tile placement. But determining this sequence may be conditioned by certain expansions. Not all sequences may be valid, or some of them may produce inconsistent outcomes. And there is no arbitration role defined for the scoring sequence in case of conflict or any clarification to help resolve this (only the Barber-Surgeons attribute this role to the active player when deciding what meeples are sent to bathhouses if the decision may involve several players).

To make things worse, some expansions state that each player will score their features in their preferred order to meet certain conditions (maximazing their own gain and/or minimazing the gain of their opponents).

There are many expansions that add new constraints or dependencies to the usual scoring process but not all race conditions or side effectes are clarified:
A) The Watchtowers: A watchower bonus must be scored before the associated feature as per the rules, but watchtowers scoring for meeples may depend on unrelated features completed by the same tile placement.
B) The Toolkeepers: Tollhouses should be scored before the associated completed roads.
C) Castles triggered by multiple features or even other castles define a series of dependencies to be considered during the scoring sequence.
D) Mini #2 - The Messengers: This expansion instructs players to choose the order of scoring of their features and the scoring figue to use in order to receive messages. This expansion may be combined with Mini #6, increasing the decision factors.
E) Mini #6 - The Robbers: This expansion instructs players to choose the order of scoring of their features to control what points may be robbed by other players. This expansion may be combined with Mini #2, increasing the decision factors.
F) Darmstadt Promo: Completed Darmstadt churches grant a bonus to the players with the majority in their vicinity. This may involve meeples on other features completed by the same tile placement.
G) The School: Players may decide the order of their scorings to control what points may receive the player with the Teacher.
H) The Barber-Surgeons: The active player may decide the order of scoring in order to send one or more meeples to free bathhouses.
I) Exp. 10 - Under the Big Top: All features are scored and their meeples removed before the big top is scored.
J) Exp. 6 - Count, King & Robber: Players may deploy meeples from Cacassonne to completed features
K) Markets of Leipzig: Players may send meeples to Leipzig, affecting the scoring of roads sending meeples and the features associated with various districts in the city.

Therefore, a complex scenario may combine implicit contraints dictated by meeples redeployments (J, K), feature dependencies (A, B, C, F, I), decisions made by the owner of the features (D, E, G), and decisions made by the active player (H). If you followed an arbitrary sequence: pick a feature - score - remove meeple - repeat, you may find several issues:
- Scoring castles before some features triggering them (C)
- Side effects caused by meeples added and removed in different orders: sending meeples to Leipzig (K), deploying meeples from Carcassonne (J), watchtowers scoring for meeples (A), Darmstadt churches (F), big top scoring (I)...

Getting all this to work together may drive someone nuts. We should pursue a scoring process where all the different contraints can be combined freely and reach a consistent result: No side effects when scoring features as in the base game, while in full control of any constraints to be consider or any actions triggered.

We always try to resolve all this with one single loop. However, this may no work in complex cases. I always envision the scoring process as several loops back to back in the most complex scenarios:
1. Detecting the completed features and other features to be scored
    - Small cities converted into castles do not participate in the scoring
2. Sending meeples to Leipzig
    - Determining the majority in the roads connected to Leipzig
    - Redeploying meeples from selected roads to Leipzig
3. Redeploying meeples from Carcassonne to features to be scored
4. Evaluating features (calculate points only)
   - Evaluating the majority for all features (some may have been affected by actions in 2 and 3)
   - Determining the sequence of evaluation due to dependencies (watchtowers, tollhouses, triggered castles...)
   - Calculating the points each bonus and feature is worth (the points evaluation as a sequence of scoring events to be noted by each player)
5. Noting the points on the scoreboard (the actual scoring loop)
    - Each player notes their scoring events according to their preferred sequence:
    - Each player uses the scoring figure of their preference to note their points (one, or two if playing with Mini #2 - The Messengers)
    - Robbers steal points according to the scorings performed (if playing with Mini #6 - The Robbers)
6. Sending meeples to bathhouses (with the arebitration of the active player if needed)
7. Wagons are moved and the remaining meeples invoved in the scoring are removed
8. Distributing gold ingots
9. Flipping over tollhouse tokens as needed
10. Scoring of the big top.
      - Robbers steal points according to the scorings performed (if playing with Mini #6 - The Robbers)
11. Receiving messages by the active player according to the last position of their scoring figures moved during this turn.
      - Robbers steal points according to the scorings performed (if playing with Mini #6 - The Robbers)
12. Sending meeples to Carcassonne

Note the following:
- Loop 4 (Evaluation) determines the majority to be considered in each scoring (including the Darmstadt bonus) using a frozen snapshot of the gam. No points are noted on the scoreboard, no meeples are removed. It also handles the sequence required for calculating points (constraints defined by feature dependencies A, B, C, and F).
- Loop 5 (Points noting) handles the decisions made by feature owners (D, E, G). The separation between Loops 4 and 5 decouples mandatory feature-contraints from player-driven decisions, avoiding race conditions and making the outcome consistent.

In simpler cases, most of these loops, if not all, can be merged into one. Only when race conditions may impact the scoring process, you may need to split the scoring loop into stages.

This way you may control situations where one meeple may affect multiple scorings (e.g. the Darmstadt church bonus or a watchtower scoring for meeples). The scoring process should rely on a snapshot of the game configuration and run away from any volatility that would require negotiations or arbitrations between the players beyond those detailed in the rules.

Today was a normal day... My first day back to work after the Christmas break... :'(

"Ding dong!" the door bell rang at lunch time... The baker's husband, stading before me, hands me a "Roscón de Reyes" cake and an envelope... No explanation given. I stare back at him:
- What's this?
- Ahhhh... I'm not at the liberty to say.
- What the heck?
- Gotta go. Byeeee!
- Thanks...! Er....

What was all this about? I knew @Challa007 was up to something, but this? I opened the envelope...

No way! My wife and I cannot believe our eyes. We have a mission! But we will have to wait until the evening to get ours hands on this promising "roscón". Back to work again now...  :'(

A few hours later, the Meeple Council wants to know what the "roscón" looks like... I start to unwrap it.

(https://i.imgur.com/Zl8QC8c.jpg)    (https://i.imgur.com/omcFC9y.jpg)

A fluffy cake filled with whipped cream. The dough scented with orange blossom water. Candied fruit on top. All sprinkled with sugar... A full meal in every bite. We all get excited and impatient...

I cut the couple of slices...  My wife begs for a smaller one.

But oooops! Her slice contains the prize hidden in the cake, as the tradition dictates. We unwrap it and another surprise: A yellow meeple!!!!

(https://i.imgur.com/rE8d1Nt.jpg)    (https://i.imgur.com/cE9HcNq.jpg)

The yellow meeple joins the Meeple Council and they all watch me eat my glorious slice!!! My wife stares at me...

(https://i.imgur.com/p4rVHkH.jpg)    (https://i.imgur.com/TcQqMOe.jpg)

It's delicious and we go round after round of slices trying to control ourselves... The Meeple Council commands us to stop when they see we have eaten half the cake.... Unbelievable! Tomorrow's breakfast will be our next stop...

Thank you so much guys for this wonderful surprise. @Challa007 , your scheming and plotting won't go unnoticed! The Grinch will take advantage of it... No doubt!

Good thing you didn't chip your tooth on it, would be very unfortunate, Roscón de Reyes traditionally have only one figurine, so the appearance of more can actually be quite a surprise.

Thanks for fantastic quiz. It made me dig dip in the rules, especially of the expansions, which I don't have and haven't played.

I am definitely the one who took the longest, but I haven't learnt about this quiz until 12th December.

Now that you found everything  ;) I would like to stress again that this was the making of 14 people!!

Everybody contributed / took their part in the logistics!

@corinthiens13

@Decar
@JohannesD
@Ker42
@kothmann
@Snearone
@Turkino1
@Willem
@6ruoge4

Thank you all for your support and enthusiam...

Hope that those headaches are gone now after such a hectic December...  >:D

This afternoon we found the final surprise in the second to last slice of cake... You made us very happy with all these dear surprises.

To my surprise, my second slice contained another prize.... A blue meeple. The yellow meeple has a friend. Yaaaay!  :blue-meeple: :yellow-meeple:

So you found only two? I though it will be more... After all when the cake is delicious, you can't not devour it  ^-^
Good thing you didn't chip your tooth on it, would be very unfortunate, Roscón de Reyes traditionally have only one figurine, so the appearance of more can actually be quite a surprise.

It was really a surprising surprise to find more than one prize... He he he!

No teeth were chipped during the enjoyment of the "roscón" cake... We have developed a sixth sense to detect any surprises before chewing hard. ;)

Last chance: if you are a participant in this year's Advent Quizz and do not have a Spiel'22 yet and want a chance to get one, please send me a PM

by the end of this Sunday January 15th - 23.59 in your time zone is fine :)

I will announce the winner on Monday evening my time.

FYI: I have already received 4 requests.

Congratulations @davide !! You are the winner of the Spiel'22 tile  :D

Of all the participants who asked for the tile, you are the one with the best score in the Advent Quizz.

Have fun!!  :D

It seems that the plotting and scheming has no end on this forum...

I received last night a mysterious PM disclosing a custom tile where I'm standing in a field with a roscon cake from a bakery ("pasteleria" in Spanish) in the city...

I can't stop admiring all the work put in this tile. Thank you so much guys, and especially @Challa007, for leading these "terrible" initiatives. All this made me extremely happy...  ;D ;D ;D

Behold and enjoy it as much as I do (you may click on the image to zoom in):

Believe it or not, the prize and the "little something" items are on their way to you, esteemed participants...

I only spent 3h at the post office to get everything sorted out... Well, I also posted some other stuff pending to be sent... 27 items in total. Not bad for an afternoon! ;)

I will send you all your tracking numbers by PM.

So pay attention to your mailboxes!

Thank you so much for participating and thank you again for the wonderful surprises after the Advent Quiz!!!

Hope you like it!!! ^-^

@Meepledrone
Not only do you spent a lot of time to run the Advent Quizz, prepare the gifts, go to the post office and send the gifts ...
but also you must be spending a fortune to send 27 envelopes with tracking around the world....

THANK YOU for everything!!!!     +1 merit

Some little surprises is the least we could do.  :)

I am VERY excited to find out what you have prepared for us  ..... why are postal services soooooooo long? Why has nobody invented real life "beaming" yet?  ;)

Today the postman delivered another envelope wrapped in mystery. When I opened it I found this... This only meant @Challa007 and the guys' scheming wasn't finished yet... Didn't know what to expect!

This envelope contained another 2 envelopes, one in light green color and another one made out of plastic bubble wrap...

I was cautious this time and double checked for opening instructions...

I couldn't find any hints of them, so I proceeded to open the green envelope...

What wat this? This had to be a geeting card designed by @Snearone !!! What else could it be?
All the C3-style ornaments and on the paper and even in black inside the meeple! What a nice work!!!
...And the paper was also great to the touch.

What did the greeting card say?

Indeed, I know who to blame now... Ha ha ha!

Thanks so much to all of you who contributed to brighten my day...  ^-^

I had to read several times the card... (I was blinded by the glittery ink ;))... Glass meeples? People liking the Advent Quiz? Oh oh! The Grinch is gonna be mad....

... to be continued...

So after opening the bubble wrap envelope, i found this velvet drawstring bag... All very classy!  ^-^

What did I find inside? A very compact wrapping that took me a while to open and a couple of promo cards... but I was so excited that forgot to take any pictures...

THE END

You couldn't believe I would leave you all like this, huh?

So beside the promo cards, the bag contained these two hand-made glass meeples...

Here is a couple of closeups...

The one on the left has three layers in different colors:
* Frozen white
* Opaque white
* A thin layer of light blue

The one on the right also has three layers in two shades of azure blue and transparent as you can appreciate here:

You can also appreciate the bubble sinside the glass which cast different light effects depending on the side you are looking at... Amazing to say the least!!!

Wow! These two little meeples are outstanding piece of craftmanship!!! Totally impressive!!!

...to be continued?...

So I went back to my stash and fetched the meeples included in the roscon cake to take a family picture...

Voilà!

So gorgeus together!!!

But wait... I think they want to clebrate with some acrobatics! Ahhh naughty meeples! Hop hop hop!

So thank you so much, guys, for this incredible string of surprises!!! Hope you enjoyed the Advent Quiz as much as I did... The roscon cake, the personal tiles, the hand-made meeples and all these tokens of appreciation. I'm really moved!

Don't let @Challa007, the Master Schemer, and @Snearone, the Master Illustrator, lure you to their evil domains!

Thank you all for enjoying the lands of Carcassonne and their richness so much!!! ;D ;D ;D

I seem to be the only person on this side of the globe reporting to have received a package. And judging by how close I live to the regional sorting centre, I reckon it should take at least a few more days for other folks in the States to get theirs.

And just to add a data point to what kind of delay you might expect in anticipation of a mail piece...
I came home to find a slip that said the USPS had missed me and the package needed a signature. The only way for me to get it was to go to the storage unit in my city. Normally, this would do.
But... this package is registered mail, so the postmaster keeps it in the safe. And of course, the postmaster gets off of work when I get off of work  ::). They allowed me to sign the slip and drop it off in my mailbox and told me that they would deliver it to the mailbox if the signed slip would be there. And I finally got it!

Hi @corinthiens13 !!!

So happy so see you liked the prized an the little treats coming with it.

Never though you would also enjoy Carc für 2 as well...

I'm also missing the Saint Nicholas Scoreboard, so always keeping an eye on options. The Santa Claus and the Fir Tree meeples have that function too... Should we look for stickers to get a home-made replica instead of meeples to mark the spaces?

@Challa007 did a great job making her custom Big Highwayman figure a reality... Have fun with it!
