I started collecting Carcassonne games recently (new artwork) and got a very complete collection. That was until I saw the old edition's artwork which was much, much better and so I decided to collect those as well.
Living in Mexico, board games weren't popular until recently so we are "years behind" in games, with a few shops still having older games available for sale. So I managed to find a Big Box 5 (called Carcassonne Plus 2014) and every other old artwork expansion. And man, they've gotten a LOT of use in the last few months.
But since these are out of print, I thought about getting at least a second copy of the Big Box 5 while I can for when the current one starts to show signs of wear from so much use.
I got my first Big Box 5 (used) for around $50 USD and I just saw a brand new sealed copy being sold for around $45 in an old man's shop. How much are these really worth? Should I go for it? And also look for duplicates of some of the other expansions too? There's a Catapult game being sold for $15 too but it's missing one tile.

Price is very fine and I will buy it.

Bumsakala is right. 15$ for a catapult is quite cheap as well $45 for a Big Box. Maybe you should look for Carcassonne Plus which includes the Minis 1-7. You can also get the new Minis at Lautapelit.fi, but take care about the shipping ;-)

But @Drodo be faceful, which design version of Carcassonne do you want.

Big Box 2017 with Mini 1-6 (actualy 7 becaouse every of Mini 1-6 contains 1 tile from Mini 7 ;-D) - is new design and Big Box 5 is old design.

Checking the file available on Cundco, you can find the allegedly available (not striked out). Is the missing tile it available? If ordering it ti Cundco, you will specify the expansion and the tile code (KA - KL). ;)

The prices seem fair to me as far as I can tell.
Devir entered the Big Box game somewhat late. So their first release was Big Box 4 but they skipped the numbering to avoid any issues. So we have:
* Big Box 4 (Carcassonne-Plus 2012 by Devir) contains the minis 1-7 in C1

One thing: Big Box 6 is the C2 version of Big Box 4. Big Box 5, as you can see above is the one with the Wheel of Fortune.

As to whether getting a second Big Box 5, I won't be the one to talk you out of it. I got a second copy of Big Box 5 and Big Box 6 (still in shrink wrap)... And I'm thinking about getting a Big Box 4 just for the love of it...
Valid excuses: Having two sets of tiles and token just in case you would like to play 8 players or more, or combining several base games for longer vanilla tile games, or even just for spare parts,... you name it.
I also got two Catapults (and even some spare tokens). I never played it but I'm ready for a 8-player (or even a 12.player) game if needed. :o
Completionism is bad for health but we love it. ;)

And also the standalone Wheel of Fortune. >:D
So you can mix the base game (no symbols) with the Wheel of Fortune (with a wheel symbol) and have a 144-tile game without nay issues to separate the tiles. ;)

I already got everything from Carcassonne II including the 2017 Big Box, this is Carcassonne I that I started to collect not long ago. Big Box 5 is much better with meeples for 8 players, River III, Sheep and Wheel of Fortune.
I think I'm getting another copy or even 2 more, these will be very difficult to find in a few years. Gotta take advantage of its availability and price in Mexico.

It's the River I tiles but modified, two of them have printed sheep and two have vinyards. These only exist in Big Box 5 I think.

Yes, it was a treat added to Big Box 5. >:D

You can see that HiG added a two vineyards and two printed sheep as a tie-in with Hills & Sheep. So the difference only affects 4 tiles out of 12.
