Best place to buy new expansions 1 & 2
« on: December 18, 2014, 10:58:34 AM »
Hi All

I am a newbie so apologies if the answer to this is already somewhere on your excellent website but I couldn't find it. I am based in the UK.

I would like to buy expansion 1 (inns & cathedrals) and expansion 2 (builders & traders) as a gift for a friend. These expansions seem to be out of stock most places or at crazy prices - I believe this is probably to do with the artwork possibly being re-designed etc. and thus the older versions are no longer being printed?

Does anyone know anywhere to buy them new at a sensible price? I'd consider buying a foreign language version if that makes things easier.

They have the version 1 Z-Man base game (old artwork) so I'd like to buy them expansions with matching artwork whilst they are still about.

Cheers

Hi donglemouse, welcome to the forum!

I'd start here:

http://boardgameprices.co.uk/item/show/854/carcassonne-inns-cathedrals
http://boardgameprices.co.uk/item/show/393/carcassonne-traders-builders

Looks like there's not many out there!

I'd also suggest checking amazon.de for german editions; rules will be German but the tiles are the same and the rules are available in pdf.

amazon.co.uk is "temporarily out of stock" for expansions 1 & 2

cheers for the other situations though including amazon.de  - it's only 25 euro for the pair including post to UK, result

I just looked and Z-MAN games the North American distributor is out of stock for a couple of the basic expansions?  Just the holiday rush or a sign of things to come?    :'(

www.carcassonneshoppe.com.  Ted is a member here and has them in stock for a very reasonable price!  He has lots of other things too.  Check them out!

Here in Sweden there's still a heap of them for 10 Euro each (40 copies each in one store and some hundreds each in another store, checked about a month ago). Problem arises when it's being shipped as it adds about 15 Euro to ship both of them within the European Union (or 18 Euro rest of the world).

These are the Scandinavian / Finnish versions and Inns and Cathedrals comes with River I.

There's also the English versions but they cost a little more, between 12 Euro up to 15 Euro.
World record holder for a single game of Carcassonne using 10 007 tiles!

Welcome donglemouse!  :(y)

Both expansions are available from www.cundco.de for 10.99 Euros. However, international shipping is rather expensive from Cundco if the order amount is more than 10 Euros (which it clearly would be even if you ordered these items individually).

Cundco may be willing to ship at the reduced postage rate if you asked them directly but I'm guessing the expansions are priced as they are for a reason so this may not be possible.

It sounds like amazon.de may be your best bet, good luck!  :)

Glad you hear you're sorted donglemouse.  I hope your friend likes them (I'm sure they will).

Let us know what they thought and put a picture on the Postman thread ;)

Merry Christmas too!

Hi,

I'm also new to Carc and looking to get a copy of Inns and Cathedrals too. I'm also probably going to go down the route of amazon.de as the UK sellers all seem to either be sold out or charging high prices.

Before I order, I wanted to check that the Hans im Gluck sets are equivalent to the Z-MAN ones in that the backs are the same colour? I ask because I read somewhere that the old Rio Grande Sets have slightly different coloured grey backs to the newer sets and so can be differentiated between if picking from piles.

Any advice on this would be appreciated!  :green-meeple:

Hi. I'm also a UK Based Carcassonne newbie and I've been tracking down various expansions for a while, this is a summary of where I've found is the best place to look:

LGS - Always worth checking out to see your local store has any rarer expansions at original retail price - I've picked up some sweet bargains at mine. Plus, its good for local business.
Here - You can always check the marketplace for trading and fair prices
Amazon.de - Well priced German editions.
Cundco.de - Good for picking up rarer, small expansions. Once you buy more than 10 Euros worth of stuff though, the p&p shoots up.
Sheepgames.de - Another European site, they had a few copies of the various large out-of-print expansions. They stock games in various languages.
Spielbox - Good for a couple of mini-expansions that are hard to find elsewhere
Boardgamegeek.com - Handy for listing every expansion. Users post their games for sale from all over the world.
ChaosCards - Have the 6 mini expansions pretty cheap. I think I picked up Abbey& Mayor and The Tower here for a decent price too.
Ebay - Prices generally higher than elsewhere, but worth a look.
