Carcassonne new addition - does it add up
« on: December 14, 2014, 05:17:54 AM »

I just realized that Carcassonne the new edition only supports 5 colours.  Given that the current big box adds 2 more colours to the original 6 to bring the total to 8, does this make sense to anyone.   ???

Posibility to get more money in the future ofcourse.. simple marketing trick.
if they want to bring inns and cathedrals back in the new setup. Then they want to bring the 6th player addition with it too
im wondering. Are there 50/100 tiles in the new edition ?

I suppose the base game always did ship with 5 colours (including winter) -  the S-CAR does not reflect this as it has been modified to reflect the reality of virtualy everyone having a extra cololur meeple from  the first big expansion.  I started playing with a big box edition so it is written as if there was always 6 player colours.

Anyone ever tried a six player game with only the base game? How much luck is involved in such a game and what can your expertise knowledge do to counter it?

This is more of an intriguing thought juggling numbers and strategy than anything else. Just curious.

Six players using only the base game wouldn't seem very fun to me. Only 12 tile draws each means you don't have much ability to plan or build big features by yourself -- sharing becomes a lot more important if you want to complete anything.

I also don't like 8 players in a bigger game, not so much for tile numbers, just inordinate amounts of down time.

Sometimes I play the base game with five players (four AI players) on iOS and it is usually a disaster. It's almost completely random. Usually I lose quite badly in this format.

I imagine the winner would be determined mostly by whoever draws the most cloisters. Not something I'm keen to try really! 4 players is the most I enjoy playing with, although 2 or 3 is my preferred.

I would say, technically, you should include Inns and Cathedrals with the 6th player. That might help a little by offering more tiles.

3 teams of 2 would be fun I think.
I just drew the perfect tile for my MonKnighThieFarmer!
